My little guy is two and a half and loves books. We've read countless books to him and he has a pretty impressive library, so I've definitely developed a particular taste for children's books. Some of them are more catered toward children, which isn't a bad thing, but it's always a delight when I come across a book that we both enjoy. Peepsqueak is one such book.

First off, it must be said that this book is adorable. I loved the rounded, fluffy drawings of Peepsqueak and the other barnyard animal...more

From the day that Peepsqueak hatches he is on the move and wanting to fly. Peepsqueak tries many different ways to fly. He jumps off from a hill, his brothers and sisters, and out of a window. Every time Peepsqueak thinks of a new place to jump all the other animals tell him that he can not fly. Peepsqueak does not listen to them and continues to do everything he can to fly. One day a goose puts Peepsqueak on his back and flies him around the farm. Peepsqueak is overjoyed when he lands and all t...more

Precious! Peepsqueak! reminds me of classic children’s tales like Chicken Little or something, except a little backward. The great art and uplifting story work well to make it a classic fit for beginning readers.

Peepsqueak is just a little thing, too small to fly high, or so the other animals say. Peepsqueak never gives up though. He’s a determined little chick and he’s not letting anyone bring him down. As he tries various ways to get in the sky...more

Peepsqueak is an adorable story about a little chick, who from the time he was first hatched, wanted to fly. When others tell him he can't fly, he doesn't listen and just seems more determined to prove them wrong. Just about when he is ready to give up, he perserverance pays off -- Peepsqueak takes flight after all thanks to the help of a gray goose.

Peepsqueak is a cute story that teaches and reminds us the importance of never giving up on your dreams, and that practice and hard work pay off in...more

As an adult, I wasn't that impressed with the story. Boring, repetitive, predictable...and Peepsqueak is awkward to say over and over again. I never really cared about Peepsqueak or rooted for him to succeed, and he never really interacts with other characters. As an inspirational story, I think it fails in that regard. It's all about Peepsqueak trying to fly (which is fine), but in the end it's like the moral of the story is: "If you can't do something for yourself, have someone else do it for...more

Summary: A baby chick named Peepsqueak does not listen to the advice of Big Brown Cow, Big Sheep, Yellow Duck, and Baby Bunny, and tries again and again unsuccessfully to fly, until Old Gray Goose gets involved.

Worked very well with Prek Story Class this week - theme birds.

Repetitive phrase throughout the book. "He was on the move!" that kids joined in with me in reading. Book also relates to theme of perseverance. The little chick keeps trying to fly even though each time he tries to go "Up,...more

Love, love, love it! He may be a peepsqueak in stature, but he's a supersqueak when it comes to effort and determination.

The use of cute farmyard animals is always a draw. The use of repeptitive language will make it a good read aloud selection. The toddler and Pre-K audience will be able to identify with Peepsqueak's persistance and constant movement.

Its great that although characters kept telling Peepsqueak no, he kept trying. When he succeeded in a roundabout way, the naysayers changed their...more

Peepsqueak is a chick who hatches slower than the other chicks. He is different than the others as well. He is constantly on the move and wears a read sure that says "P.S." He is determined to fly, despite what Yellow Ducks and Big Sheep warns. They think he is too small. He jumps off of things in an attempt to fly, but sadly fails. That is, until, Old Gray Goose lifts him up and lets him fly.

This book is good for students 4 and up.

This book is really easy to follow and kids love farm animals....more

I actually discovered this book after finding the second book in the series in a book contest, and then found this at the public library. Peepsqueak has just hatched but already he wants to fly. It doesn't matter that roosters don't fly, he will try and try again until he does. And eventually, with the help of the Old Gray Goose, he gets his chance. Once that is done, he wants to swim. I loved the seriously cute brightly squiggly illustrations of Peepsqueek, the other baby chicks, Big Brown Cow...more

Summary: Right out of the shell Peepsqueak is ready to go! Even though he is just born he is ready to fly and he continues to try and try again, meanwhile everyone is telling him he cannot fly. Finally someone helps him get his desire to fly. He does not get there how he plans but when he is flying he has a blast!

Audience: Is for any student who has a goal in mind or wants to try something and maybe too scared to do so.

Appeal: This book is great because throughout the book we see Peepsqueaks bra...more

The kids loved the book. They found Peepsqueak to be very entertaining. I had a difficult time reading it. It didn't flow very well at all. Just the name, "Peepsqueak" is rather difficult to say over and over. (And not difficult in a "Fox in Socks" by Dr. Suess way, but difficult in an awkward did I say it right kind of way.) The repeating phrase of the books is "Because why? He was on the move!" That isn't clever or even cute. I would have given it far fewer stars, but the kids did enjoy it, so...more

Peepsqueak! by Leslie Ann Clark is about a little chick that is always on the move. He tries, and tries, and tries to fly, but he can't fly high. All the other animals on the farm tell him to not even try, because he can't fly. Eventually Old Gray Goose comes along, and Peepsqueak hitches a ride on her back, and proves to those other animals that he can indeed fly! Peepsqueak! is intended for grades pre-K through about 1st. This book is a good fit because it teaches kids to never give up, and to...more

This book is a great book about a little chick who doesn't give up, no matter what his friends try to tell him. He wants to fly and he tries and just keeps on trying no matter if he fails. This is a good book to read to children during a lesson about not giving up and to keep trying no matter who tells them that they can't do it. I think this book is super cute and would be a good book for a kindergarten class.

Love the phrase "On the Move". We used it lots with both boys and it became such a frequent saying we shortened it to "moves" so right away I was hooked.

I love this little guy's tenacity and preserverance and will recommend this to all the parents who want books about not giving up but, also, it sends the important message that you sometimes need a little help to achieve your goals - and that's okay!

In the book, "Peepsqueak!", all Peepsqueak wants to do is fly. Every time he takes off, he falls to the ground. But, Peepsqueak finally gets his chance to fly high into the sky. This book is geared for kindergarten or first grade students. Its purpose is to entertain. In my classroom, I would use this book as a read aloud just for fun.

How much do I love looking at new picture books? A whole lot! In the past few years I always loved it when I was working in the children's room and I could look at the new books before they were put out on the shelves. Now that I work up here more of the time, I always get to see them and it makes my day to see fun, colorful, new picture books!

The repetition in the text might make this good for early readers, but it goes on for too long to hold most little wigglers. Art is cute but unremarkable--and why do all the chicks have clothing or accessories while the grownup animals are au natural?
Underwhelming.
Sandy
Bright images with amusing details, repetitive phrases, and a Peepsqueak who is perpetually positive and "on the move" are the ingredients for an engaging picture book that kids will attempt to read on their own in short order.

Peepsqueeak is a small chick who won't take "you can't do that" as an answer. P.S. will try and try again until he accomplishes his goals. Good book to share aloud with young readers, or for independent reading.

Really cute story about baby chick who is "on the move" trying to learn to fly. Nice rhyming text, reviews "up and down" concept and lots of nice repetitive phrases to chant during storytime.

As soon as little Peepsqueak bursts out of his shell, he is on the move!
He is determined to fly—high, High, High! But is he too little to reach the sky? Young children will love this book.

Cute, but not as cute as I would have thought. It seems really great for young kids though. It's got that repetitive quality in it that goes more for younger children.
Mary
Peepsqueak is always ON THE MOVE. From the moment he's born, he tries to fly. Despite the exhortations from others that "you can't fly high!", he finds a way.
Beverly
This little chick is bound and determined to fly, ignoring the naysaying of the other farm animals. A great lesson on perseverance.

Peepsqueak (a cute little chick) has no fear of trying. Little ones will love this book because just like them, Peepsqueak's on the move!
Michael
Great book. Can't wait to read it all the kids.
Love Leslie's artwork; even have some in the fridge.

DW: Adorable! Themes: determination, don't give up, follow your heart, dreams can come true.
Linda Atkinson
High energy, colorful makes this a good choice for toddler or preK storytimes.
Tanya
I'd give it four stars if the chicken had been "she" or "it."
Franki Sibberson
A fun book that will make a good read aloud for younger kids.
