Except for having a ludicrously over-the-top villain -- who adopted two daughters to keep her rich husband trapped without spoiling her figure (!) -- this is just barely a revenge story; it has more the feel of a realistic contemporary romance. The heroine Sally is one of the adopted daughters of the hero Jack's father -- not actually Jack's stepsister, as the blurb says, but since they never grew up together, the ick factor is not very high. Jack is out to punish Sally's mother for ruining his ...more
The hero and the heroine in this book are both fairly likeable, the heroine perhaps a bit too much so. It's an okay book to read but it leaves you disappointed. There could have been so much more given the bones in the plot.

There is a lot of potential for conflict in this book but it never fully develops. The little conflict their is in the book is quickly resolved and everyone moves on with ease. It would have been nice to see the conflict between the mother and the heroine Sally further devel

I've read this before and it didn't get any better the second time around. While the heroine seemed to be an upstanding and morally honest person, the hero was downright devious at times. I found it hard to believe that the hero fell in love with her as I did not feel any emotion from the novel.

Jack was cast out by his father and stepmother, and grew up resenting the two adopted daughters who got all the money and love. Sally loved her adoptive father, but always felt the wrongness of his actions towards the son that he rejected.

Now their father is dead, and at the reading of the will, Sally, sister Jane, and their mother find that their father went bankrupt and was only saved by a loan from Jack. The business, house and entire fortune now belongs to him.

But Jack is willing to make a d

I though I'd try out a Harlequin/Mills and Boon's novel, just to see if they lived up to their reputation. The best thing which can be said about it is that it was a quick read--the rest of it had me giggling in horror, because apart from references to plasma screen TVs and mobile phones, it was like a trip back in time to the 1970s. The gender politics alone were just horrendous; the hero was like an adult version of Harry Potter, all dark demons living in his chest and threatening to overwhelm ...more

Blackjack Maguire, that's what they called him. When his father had rejected him, Jack Maguire made his first millions at the blackjack table. Sally had met her stepbrother only once, and that meeting had left a permanent impression on her. Now upon her adoptive father's death she's secretly pleased that Jack is finally able to take what is rightfully his. Jack was taken with the 14 year old Sally as well, but now 10 years later he's bewitched by her. His father's death has brought him his reven ...more
