Sallie Lundy-Frommer builds mystery from page one. She paints a realistic portrait of a less ordinary life. Yesterday's Daughter uses well placed inner voice to convey a heart felt story. This love story wrapped in a romance for romance lovers. It is well written for it's audience and has a particular allure in that genre. It is truly well suited for anyone that has a longing in their hearts for something a little different.

I was contacted by Tribute Books to participate in a Blog Tour for "Yesterday's Daughter". I definitely couldn't pass it up. I'm always up for reading a book from a new author who I have never read from.
From the minute I picked up the book, I knew it was not like any other book I've read before. Sallie Lundy-Frommer takes you into a Paranormal World where Vampires are destined to have "Life Mates". They also feed from each other to sustain the best nutrients...not from humans. ***Spoiler Alert*...more I was contacted by Tribute Books to participate in a Blog Tour for "Yesterday's Daughter". I definitely couldn't pass it up. I'm always up for reading a book from a new author who I have never read from.
From the minute I picked up the book, I knew it was not like any other book I've read before. Sallie Lundy-Frommer takes you into a Paranormal World where Vampires are destined to have "Life Mates". They also feed from each other to sustain the best nutrients...not from humans. ***Spoiler Alert****She also throws in human villains who want nothing more, but to have the blood from Vampires to become an immortal themselves.
Your first introduced to the character Grace aka "Sapphira" (which I have to say is a Beautiful name and fits the character very well.) She has no idea where she came from since she was thrown into Foster care when she was a child. She knows she's different, but she's not sure why. She drinks blood...which she has no idea why.
Until one day, she happens to run into Malachi in her home. Malachi is no one she's ever met before and he starts fitting in the pieces on what she is and that she is destined to be with him. She's starting to believe him because she has dreamed of him before, but she doesn't know why.
Malachi warns her though, that their our things out there that want to hurt her and he wants to take her back to their world so he can protect her.
That's when all hell breaks loose and we find out there's other things that bump in the night...and poor Grace has to deal with things she's not used to...but Malachi does everything in his power to help her through it.
Sallie Lundy-Frommer definitely has a different writing style then I'm used to. I was a little confused at first when reading it because it would jump back and forth from different characters points of views. I would have to back track and read over a certain page again to catch up and find out what exactly happened. Although, it is a great thing she did that because you get all aspects of what's going on and what happens when it leads to the ending of the book.
You'll be in "Awe" at the end of the book when you find out what actually happened to Grace and why she was separated from her Vampire World. I wanted to jump into the book and kick some ass for her.
I just have to say this to end my review...Malachi stole my heart in this book and he definitely is a perfect "Life Mate" to have. I'm jealous of Grace "Sapphira" for having him.
I look forward to reading the next book from Sallie Lundy-Frommer and finding out what is up next for the characters. (less)

She started to interrupt Malachi, but he put up a hand and said, “I pled with you to listen. I know I have not handled this matter well,” he signed in frustration. “In truth, I thought I was better prepared, but I too find the situation to be most extraordinary and find myself at a loss for words.” Grace noticed how he spoke, the way he formed sentences. He spoke as if he were from a different time. Again, she started to interrupt him, but he said, “Listen please! I know your thoughts, what you must be thinking, that you grew up in foster care and that your biological parents were never found.” As he spoke, a look of great shock and bewilderment blanketed her face. No one knew that because no one knew who she really was. Who is he? How could he know so much? I ran away from my foster parents years ago. Is he a blackmailer? This is crazy, she thought. “Grace…Grace,” he said as his voice gentled even more to a smooth calming chant. “I know you are frightened and overwhelmed. But it is also true that I knew your birth parents, your real parents.”
Grace Stone’s memory goes back to foster parents and years of abuse, which she was finally able to escape by running away. Even as she lived in hiding she was still able to continue her education and had eventually acquired a job working in the morgue. She had always sensed that she was different from others. She couldn’t allow herself to be exposed to the sun. It seemed that her skin had no protection from the sun’s rays and exposure would cause severe burning of the skin. Therefore she worked nights only. Even though she was declared to be a beauty by everyone who met her, she refused to associate or become close to anyone. The strangest thing she noticed about herself was her lack of taste for normal food and her taste for blood which was easily acquired with her working within the hospital. So when she came home after a night’s work and found a total stranger in her apartment, she was more than shocked. Especially when that stranger admitted to knowing her real parents.
Malachi has been searching for his ‘life mate’ for decades. As a child she had been placed in an underground chamber to age to maturity before they were to be bonded. Due to a cave-in within the chamber, she was assumed dead even though there was never a body recovered. Malachi refused to believe that his mate had been sent to the ‘void’ so his search started and had never ended until he finally found Grace Stone. This he knew was his mate, alive and well.
Now that Malachi has found who he believes to be his ‘life mate’ he plans to take her home where she belongs. What he doesn’t know is that one of the Doctors she works with is a ‘harvester’ and wants her just as bad as Malachi does but for different reasons. Where Malachi wants her love, the good doctor wants her blood.
Yesterday’s Daughter is filled with: deception – there is a traitor among the clan; love – between two that were always supposed to be; mystery – who is the traitor?; and suspense that took me all the way to the end of the book. I thought for a while that I knew who the traitor might be but wasn’t sure until I made it to within the last few pages of the book. Was I right or wrong? You’ll have to read Yesterday’s Daughter to find out for yourself. This was an enjoyable book from beginning to end.

COVER LOVE!!! I loved this cover from the 1st time I saw it, but I avoided the book in the beginning because I've had my fill of Vampire Love Stories. I'd like to say, you can't judge a book by it's cover, in this case you can't judge a book by the synopsis on the cover. I was blown away at how good this book was! I really and truly wanted to love this book. When I read the synopsis of Yesterday’s Daughter I was instantly intrigued, however I have to be honest in saying that, for me, the story fell short of my expectations.

Grace is a young woman who has always felt different. She has a lingering doubt that she is anything like anyone else. For one, years ago, Grace made the discovery that the sun was a severe danger to her – deeply burning her skin. This led her to a life of working at night and sleeping during the day. Another odd thing? She craves blood and luckily she has pretty easy access to this substance since she works at the morgue in the hospital. Grace also no real friends, other than co-worker acquaintances; in addition, she is considered a bit of an ice queen and has turned down more than her fair share of dates.

After living a solitary life and falling into a routine that suits her, Grace’s calm life takes a turn when a strange and incredibly handsome man suddenly shows up at her apartment. The man’s name? Malachi. Malachi claims that Grace (whose real name is Sapphira) is his life mate and to have known her parents. Surprisingly Grace is not completely thrown by this. She is a bit surprised, yes, but in the scheme of things is rather accepting, which was one of the issues for me with the story. If someone were to suddenly show up and claim that I had lived for centuries, was a rare breed of vampire and human mix and that there was a life waiting for me somewhere completely unknown to me, I would be much more unaccepting than Grace was. I realize that this is paranormal/fantasy/fiction, but it was a bit of a stretch for me.

I did, however, enjoy the overall storyline of Yesterday’s Daughter and thought the writing was fairly smooth. There were some grammatical and mechanical errors, but they did not distract overly much from the flow of the story. There is a good amount of action and the story never really dulls out. Though I enjoyed both the characters of Grace and Malachi and could truly feel their love and the bond that they shared, I did not find myself overly connected to them. I did, however, wish them happiness as the story progressed.

Sallie Lundy-Frommer does show a great talent for storytelling and her writing voice is enjoyable. Though I did not connect with Yesterday’s Daughter as I had hoped, I do look forward to reading more from this author in the future.

I really enjoyed this book. It was a little confusing in the very beginning, when it would go to another character's point of view/story, since there was no indication (symbol) that it was changing. I did have to re-read a few paragraphs's in the beginning but once you get into the book and the author's writing style, you don't notice it as much.

I have read a lot of vampire stories lately, and although they are all different in their own ways and I have enjoyed most of them immensely there is just something about Yesterday's Daughter that makes me want to re-read it immediately.

What can I say? An amazing debut novel from a very talented author. I loved the story and was completely pulled in right from the first page. I found that I couldn't put the book down and is definately a real page turner. I even found myself staying up very late at night to finish it as I just couldn't put it down and just had to keep reading.
The story has a bit of everything - romance, friendship, action, comedy, betrayal, suspense and some great plot twists. I loved Grace Stone's character straight away as I found her to be a very likeable and strong character and really felt for her at certain points in the story.
I thought that this book was actually very unique in that even though this is a paranormal romance there is also a lot of action which I particularly liked and thought the balance between the two was perfect. I really hope this will be the first book in a series as I would love to read more about Sapphira and Malachi, and also with the introduction of a new species of Harvester towards the end which I think would be really interesting to read about and would love to see where this could lead.
I would highly recommend Yesterday's daughter as it is definately a vampire love story with a difference and is definately worth reading. (less)

From reading the blurb, I thought to myself “oh geez, not another vampire love story”. Surprise, surprise! It is another vampire story, but not just any vampire story. It’s a unique tale with a different set of vampires which breaks away from the norm and takes the reader into a wonderful new world with an unusual culture and set of rules, unlike any other vampire novel I’ve read in the pas...more First off I have to say that the cover of this book is absolutely stunning. From reading the blurb, I thought to myself “oh geez, not another vampire love story”. Surprise, surprise! It is another vampire story, but not just any vampire story. It’s a unique tale with a different set of vampires which breaks away from the norm and takes the reader into a wonderful new world with an unusual culture and set of rules, unlike any other vampire novel I’ve read in the past few months.

This author’s writing style is much different to that which I’m accustomed to, and it took me about two or three chapters to get into to it; but for me it added to the beauty and style of the book. She also efficiently alternates between the different viewpoints of characters, and thus successfully avoids confusing the reader.

The main character, Grace, lives up to her name and really is a very “graceful” character. She has emotional boundaries that few other characters in the book can breach, but she lets the reader in on her thoughts and feelings, and into her world from page one. The second main character - and Grace’s love interest - Malachi is the epitome of everything we dream to see in the love of our lives. If you’re sick and tired of reading about perfect vampires, then this is the one that will have you falling madly in love with “perfect” all over again. I’m not going to spoil it and tell you why...

What also stood out for me and kept me turning the pages at a steady pace, was the background stories for each of the main role players. I found it fascinating, informative and it helped shape the characters so I could really get to know and understand them as I was following the story.

Why should you purchase this book or add it to your wishlist? Because it’s an action-packed, fast paced, sweet paranormal romance with unforgettable characters and a gripping plot with an ending that makes every minute spent reading this book worth it. And if that isn’t enough, the reader can also look forward to nail-biting intrigue, mystery, tons of secrets and the devil of it all – betrayal. The dialogue is superb and suites the characters and tone of the book perfectly. I won’t think twice giving this book to my dearest friends and family as a gift.

Taking into account that “Yesterday’s Daughter” is Sallie Lundy-Frommer’s debut novel and how splendidly it’s written, I am looking forward to seeing what she will offer her readers next. I found her elegant writing style unique and refreshing, and was left for days after finishing the book, with the same thought going through my mind again and again – this lady can write! (less)

What would you do if you were told your life mate was dead and to get on with her life, but you know deep in your heart that you would find her? Well this was Malachi's dilemma for decades. I have to say Malachi is my perfect hero. He is a strong warrior who can be quite brutal in meeting out justice, while at the same time carries his love and tenderness in his heart for Sapphira and never gives up. Meanwhile Grace lives an orphaned life unaware of her true identity and guards her privacy to the point of paranoia trying to deal with the reality of being a vampire alone in the world. The book description / synopsis gives a good overview of the beginning of this story and I will not rehash it. I found the world building for Yesterday's Daughter fascinating and definitely a new take on the concept of vampires and their existence. For me this book had it all; there was sadness, action, joy, and passion. It is my understanding this is the beginning of a series, but it definitely had a satisfying resolution with a teasing possibility of more to come, and I definitely will be on the lookout for the next installment, eager to read the continuing saga. I loved this book, it was beautifully written, and once I started reading it did not want to put it down and would highly recommend it.

The review of "YESTERDAY'S DAUGHTER" by SALLIE LUNDY-FROMMER. The characters in the beginning of the book appear at random and can cause confusion in the reader, thus may leading the reader to re-read previous paragraphs. In addition, there were no smooth transition between scene changes, as evidenced by the author talking about Grace working in the morgue and the next paragraph speaking about Malachi meeting in the crater with the other Guardians.

I have to say, that, I was so disappointed in this book..when I first started to read it, I thought wow, this is going to be good, but, ver early in the book, I knew it wasn't what I excepted. This novel has an interesting concept of vampires living alongside of humans while having a complete and separate society. Malachi’s world is a bit complicated and difficult for the reader to understand and the descriptions take away from the story a little at times, but overall, the story is very enjoyable and interesting. I really liked Grace most of all. She is a strong and independent woman who overcomes much in her life and is determined to find happiness.

This is a refreshing style of a paranormal romance story. I loved uncovering all the secrets and betrayals, and really enjoyed the author's style of writing. She really draws you in and makes it hard to put the book down.

At first, I thought, "Not another vampire story..." but the beautiful writing sucked me in. The author switches between different POVs, giving the books it's own unique, creative brand of storytelling.

The story is well rounded, with a bit of everything – romance, friendship, action, comedy, betrayal and suspense. The characters back stories are explained as the story moves on and you find yourself quickly getting drawn into the world of vampires.

Can I say WOW and I am so in love with Malachi, I fell in love with these characters Grace/Sapphira and her relationship with him transfers you into a whole other world of Vampirism. A refreshing new take on vampires. The story was unique and I loved it. The vampires had so many differences you never knew what to expect they could do. Malachi and Sapphira were just wonderful together. He spent decades trying to find her while she spent that whole time trying to figure out who she was. For me, at first, I was turned off by the amount of words it took to say something. But do not for one second be mistaken, this is a truly awesome book.
For me, everything started picking up and falling into place at Chapter 6.
At this point it is so much easier to get lost in the story. Though, I have to say that there are moments when the flow is interrupted by the overuse or repetition of certain words. Yes, this is nitpicky things to mention, but I am only mentioning these minor flaws in the hopes that it helps. I want another book by Sallie Lundy-Frommer. She is very talented, and overall this story is amazing. So on to the things I liked about this story.
I really liked the original idea behind it, this was a fresh take on an old idea of vampires and vampire hunters. Some would complain about the overexplaining (maybe) but in truth it really is necessary. It is the only way to make Grace and Malachi’s love special and believable instead of quick and unfitting. There is a lot that would be missed without the knowledge gained throughout the book. At the beginning it seems a slow and unbearable pace, but the characters move you to keep going.
Grace is weird. I mean, who really believes and acts as if they are a vampire without proof? But she is also a strong and great female lead. There is something about her that doesn’t become clear until Malachi comes into the picture. She has the strength to be the deadliest creature but what you see is a gentleness that is the perfect balance for Malachi. Malachi is every woman’s dream; he is strong, masculine and protective as well as sensitive and intimate. Though it is their destiny to be together, and all evidence points to Grace being dead, Malachi holds onto an unexplained hope. He doesn’t sit around waiting for Grace to come back into his life, he goes looking for her. Time did nothing to change their fate, except perhaps make them stronger for it.
There are so many things that I could say about the actual story, but in truth I wasn’t completely prepared for the ending. I mean some of it I could see coming. Some of it I couldn’t and that made the story so much better for me. The ending left me wanting more of Malachi and Grace’s story because I know that there is so much yet to be discovered and I am certain that there are more obstacles to be tackled.

What is there to say about this book and it's wonderful and creative Author? Quite simply, They are both AMAZING! The story line really helps you dive right into the world of Sapphira. Sally truly takes you for a ride on the emotional roller coaster that is Yesterday's Daughter! Sapphira starts off a lonely young woman, no social life, no friendships outside of work just her and her private apartment. That is until.... I guess you will just have to read to find out! This book does not disappoint...more
