when author's throw a sad, meat-less bone to their readers, just to grab a couple bucks from their wallets, it's annoying. and i always fall for it. this latest example was 3 pages and brought the flare to the homestead. but, whatev. i've come to the conclusion that i will never understand what is going on in this series.

This short scene really shows what the Flare was like before people truly understood it's extent. You can kind of understand how this memory would have remained with Thomas for a very long time. Thinking of his father, I can totally see how he would have signed up with WICKED, wanting to save the world from the horrible disease that affected his own family. Very intense, very powerful. I want more of these! So good!

I see that this book is in a Listopia list as a YA Dystopia novel... I'm not sure that three pages is considered a novel. Anywho.
This (I was just about to say pamphlet lol) little teaser of Thomas' vague memory actually made my heart pounce in a short second. Strangely enough, it affected me the same way a book would, though in a much subtle matter. In anything, I can't wait for the Kill Order to come out.

This was a horrific insight to someone truly riddled with the Flare. It's no wonder Thomas makes his decisions for WICKED the way he does. I enjoy little small snippets like this in between books, and I think this one was really important to show what Thomas had to go through before his life in the Maze and his affiliation with WICKED. Well done, James Dashner. I'd like to see more of these!

This little 3 page prequel was...interesting, to say the least. It shows Thomas as a child and his father has gone crazy from the Flare (some disease that is making everyone go crazy). Somebody is coming to take his father away and his mom, who will be going crazy soon, is trying to protect him. The whole thing is Thomas dreaming while he's locked up somewhere.

Very strange.

This is only a three-page short story that falls in between books one and two, but it was entertaining. One of the main things I liked about The Scorch Trials was the way Dashner told Thomas's memories of his past before the Maze. This is another one of those memories and I like the way Dashner tells it. I wish I could have found this before I went on to read Scorch Trials.

Thomas's First Memory of the Flare is a 3 pages prequel that sets between The Scorch Trials and The Death Cure. The book tells us about Thomas when WICKED was about to take him away from his parents. Her mother explained to him that he's going away for the best because his parents are going crazy which is caused by the disease. It was all just a dream so in the end, Thomas woke up and he found himself locked up somewhere.

Very quick. Only 3 pages long.

Interesting first memory. Wish I read this after the first book but I didn't know about it. Knowing what I do know now about WICKED and the Flare, it makes me quite angry to read this.

Sigh. (view spoiler)[No wonder Thomas didn't want his memories back in book 3. (hide spoiler)]

I guess i expected an explanation, that is more than 3 small pages.
It was a cool segment of his memories but i thought it would answer all my questions that remain after the entire series.
I wish James Dashner could make a sequel series,
I can't stand the ending!!
It was quite intriguing though!

I just finish The Death Cure and because of this short memory, I accept the fact Thomas didn't recover his full memory back. But I'm still sad the trilogy ended the way it end. But this is another topic it's nothing to do with this so...I liked this three-page short-history.

A short story of a memory somewhere in the Maze Runner history.

This was good for what it was... I read it between the Maze Runner and the Scorch Trials. It's a good little nugget of a short story... but hard to rate it compared to other full books on this site.

That was pretty good!!! I feel more grounded in Thomas's life just by that little piece. Thomas's mom also had the Flare? God his dad was probably really nice until that. It just seems al sad to think the mom is not far off. I wonder if they're still alive :(

I can't really rate this 5 stars or anything because it was 3 pages long... but it did do a great job of helping me catch up on my reading goal! :) It was a nice little insight of what happened to Thomas as the flare was starting to take over...

it was insane extremely short and to be honest you did not need to that information at all i would suggest just reading the three actual books and pretending this is even here. (of course if you got it with the three books well then go for it)

This was a tiny, three-page block of text that shouldn't be regarded as a book. Honestly, it was a nice little snippet into Thomas's past, but it didn't need a whole name or book cover or a whole section in Goodreads proclaiming it as a book.

I'm on Page 320 of 375 of Book one...I just got through the Changing , so thrilled actually and I was just wondering would I read the memory now, after book one or after the series end"by book3"?

Thanks in Advance
Andrea
Interesting memory. Gives some good insight into Thomas's motives. Wish I would have read it in between books one and two instead of after finishing three, but still worth reading. (At three pages, it will take you a couple minutes.)

First of all, my heart died with 'the death cure' . I am not happy with Thomas. I still don’t appreciate James Dashner, but well played with this Short, well played. Now I accept a little the fact Thomas didn't recover his memory.

I loved The Maze Runner and this was definitely great to read! Even though it was only three pages I enjoyed reading about what happened to his parents, (It sounds wrong saying I enjoyed seeing his dad with the flare) but I really did enjoy seeing what happened when people first started getting the disease.

Jadi, sebenarnya orangtua Thomas ini menyerahkan Thomas pada... WICKED?

Jadi, nama Thomas itu nama sebenarnya?

Jadi, Flare itu adalah penyakit yang bikin manusia jadi kanibal?!

Jadi maqin nggak sabar baca buku keduanya!
Micaela
I don't think I can qualift it. It's a memory of Thomas from the Flare, like the title says, and no more. It's neither good or bad, it doesn't modify the story, it's just a memory. It's for those who needed more.
Olivia
this just contradicts the epilogue of the Kill Order... (view spoiler)[Thomas wasn't named "Thomas".. the WICKED named him Thomas after Thomas Edison after seeing a light bulb... (hide spoiler)] and it's only 3 pages.
Jeffrey
This is only a 3 page story of a flashback of Thomas's interaction/memory of the Flare. I still really liked the description to assist in learning more what the Flare does to people before I start the 2nd book. Good 3 pager, haha.

Having only read The Maze Runner so far, I know just enough of "the Flare" to follow this short prequel.

With only 3 pages, the brief dream sequence we get to glimpse of Thomas's first memory of the Flare was intense. Riveting and such a major tease. It gives a lot of hope for the upcoming prequel, The Kill Order, which I already know I will be dying to read.
Jessica
I feel weird leaving a review for a 3 page "book". It could/should have been included in either the second or third book of the series, but oh well. I'm just looking forward to The Kill Order :)
Nicole
Pretty good memory for Thomas, as a stand-alone. Probably was a scene in the book that the author cut? It was a good memory - evoked emotions, sad, vivid, strong memories of his parents.
Meaghan
This is an (extremely) short prequel/short story (emphasis on short) at an whopping three pages. However, it was very interesting. I though even from this short prequel, it shows great insight into Thomas. The main issue I had was the first main novel itself mentioned that they were not called by their real first names but his mom and dad called him Thomas in this. Whether to avoid confusion or not give something away that's later revealed, I think the author should have either revealed his real...more

I just read this in about a minute or two, but it's short, but really shows Thomas's past life and illustrates it perfectly. I could picture the scene while reading it.
