Midnight

Midnight is a prequel to Beck's next novel when When Passion Lies and stars the same pair, Caris (Carissa here) and Tiberius.

When Carissa's young brother is kidnapped by a man known to consort with demons, Carrisa just can't understand why her father refused the aid of the dark and dangerous Tiberius. Carissa, who will do anything to save her brother including using her feminine assets, approaches Tiberus to secure his help.

Set way back in old Italy, Caris and Tiberius' connection is quick and...more

It was a good short story, the only problem I had with it was that they professed their love so early. I mean They knew each other a day (if that) and they was like "I love you." That threw me off a bit but other than that it was a really good short story between Caris and Tiberius. If you're planning on reading this series, read this one before When Passion Lies because if you read it afterwards like I did, you'll know what happens already but the short story gives it more detail.

It's too short a story to really have any character development, but that's more a function of the medium than the author, I think. This is the first of this author's work that I've read and I definitely think I'll look for more. I have a feeling she'll do better with a larger canvas.

3.5 stars. Wish there would have been some more drama between Tiberius and Carissa. She accepted him being a vampire rather easily. This was definitely a nice tease before getting into their book.

I always wanted to know their history and I finally got it and it was great but felt sad to see what they had gone now for reason unknown.

Terrific short story. It was a nice introduction in to how Tiberius and Caris met.
Recommended read!

Very good novella.
Robin
This was a novella explaining Caris and Tiberius relationship before we go into their current messed up lives. It was the story of his turning her and how it all came about. Enjoyable and a nice build up to the next book.
Jenn
Nice, quick tease while we wait for the next book. I liked the sneak peek at the next book a bit better than I liked this novella.
