I have pretty much given up on James Patterson.

I still enjoy his Alex Cross -- the only series that he hasn't farmed out to lesser talent.

I have also stayed with the Woman's Murder Club series. This might be a function of release date as much as anything else. This late spring annual audiobook entry has been a staple of my drives across country to our place in the mountains of southern California. With "11th Hour," I'm pretty sure I have listened to all eleven with the panorama of differing scen...more

#11 in the Women's Murder Club series; #8 with co-author Maxine Paetro. What do a pregnant SFPD homicide sergeant, a plus-size chief medical examiner, a Japanese-American ADA, and a perky, blonde reporter have in common? They are the members of the Women's Murder Club. I list this series as a guilty pleasure - thankfully, it doesn't add the pounds that strawberry ice cream does. The novels are easy reading but they don't bear close examination. The focus is on homicide sergeant Lindsay Boxer, wh...more

Too many cliches, small twists on typical, mundane, personal situations. Too many wasted words, most ending in -ly; absolutely, frankly, truly, Give me a little more creativity. Too much filler, not enough meat. Sure, I read for the story telling, but make it interesting reading. Get into the nuts and bolts of the police investigations. I used to love these characters. Now I find them boring. Why did the authors forget to name the city this all takes place in, San Francisco, until page 75. There...more

Or a vicious killer?

Lindsay is called next to the most bizarre crime scene she's ever seen: two bodiless h

Since this is the 11th book in this series and I have read all but one (apparently I missed the 10th one even though we own it), it is easy to deduce that I enjoy reading this series.

Lindsey Boxer is pregnant which is part of the cover tease, but really has nothing to do with the book. There are two high-priority cases going on at the same time. The first is a string of drug dealer murders. Someone the press has dubbed "Revenge" is taking out drug dealers on the street. The second case involves...more

This is the 11th novel in the highly successful Women’s Murder Club series. The Women’s Murder Club consists of 4 members: Lindsay Boxer – Homicide Detective, Yuki Castellano – Assistant District Attorney, Cindy Thomas – Investigative Crime Reporter and Claire Washburn – Chief Medical Examiner. They are all friends and solve crime together in San Francisco.

This book gets off to a gripping, fast paced start with the murder of a drug dealer and the discovery of 2 severed heads in a movie star's ga...more

The woman's murder club is at it again, running in a million directions as they try to solve two distinctly different crimes; 'Revenge,' the name given to the vigilante who is killing drug dealers and the mystery of seven heads that have been buried on the estate of millionaire actor Harry Chandler, a man who was once tried for the murder of his wife. At the same time, pregnant Sergeant Lindsey Boxer must contend with a reporter, Jason Blayney, who hates cops and will do anything to further his...more

Overall, this one was a disappointment. It's hard to say if it was because of the new narrator or just because I haven't read a Women's Murder Club book in over a year (since the last one came out), but I have to say that it just didn't "feel" like the rest of them. The crimes this time around were odd to the point of what-the-heckery, and some of the characters--especially Lindsay--just seemed way off. Honestly, she deserves a great big smack upside the head for what she puts her husband Joe an...more

I thought this one of Patterson/Paetro's better mysteries. Two stories going on at the same time (no intermingling) without the traditional and cliche'ish Hollywood twists and turns. Pretty straightforward. Two heads (no bodies) are found on the porch wall at the home of a movie star who's already been tried and acquitted for the murder of his wife ten years before. Her disappearance has never been explained. In the other story, someone is killing drug dealers and the SFPD believe it's a rogue c...more

This is clearly James Patterson at his best. This book concerns the well known Women's Murder Club's Sergeant Lindsey Boxter and two strange murder cases. One has decaptated heads found at the home of a Hollywood star. The other concerns a rogue cop who is going around murderng known drug bosses using confiscated department evidence weapons. In the middle of all this and on the way to solving them is a personal story of possible infidelity on the part of Lindsey's husband. Then, there is the clu...more

This series is my favorite one by Patterson. I just like the interplay between the four women who make up the club. I also think the characters read realisticly. Lt Lindsey Boxer finds herself on two different cases that are grabbing huge headlines in San Francisco ... all while being pregnant.

The first case is a series of murders in which someone is clearly going after the city's drug dealers. The press has labeled the murdered Revenge, and both the Homicide and Narcotic squads are a sign to ge...more

***WARNING***
There are some spoilers in here for those of you who are not caught up on this series or don't want the who-dunits spoiled.

I enjoyed this installment of the Women's Murder Club series more than the past couple, though there was a few things I had issues with, such as Lindsay's pregnancy. It wasn't mentioned much in the book and I wasn't even sure how pregnant she was, plus the reader never got to see the reactions of the rest of the girls. I would have loved to have known how they...more

First off I need to say that if you haven’t read previous books in this series and you intend to read them in order please don’t continue reading the review as some of the storyline will inevitably contain spoilers.

In my ongoing love/hate relationship with James Patterson; I once again pre-ordered this book (even after convincing myself I shouldn’t) and set about catching up with the ladies from the Women’s Murder Club. I have read each book in this series and probably like many others feel like...more

We listen to books as I am preparing dinner and afterwards as we relax. While the male half of this duo loves Steven King books, he likes the fact that this book did not take us days to get through and thus held his interest. The shorter chapters and the fact that the chapter numbers were announced followed by a pause became a plus for both of us. That way we could stop the book were convenient while working in the kitchen.

This was our first Patterson book and we both found the book to be very g...more

I love this series! James Patterson and his coauthor Maxine Paetro continue to develop these real, strong, conflicted and flawed women - much like the majority of their readers.

This time we find the members of the Women's Murder Club in various stages of personal romance. Lindsey has finally married Joe and they are expecting their first child. Yuki has found love - with Lindsay's boss. Cindy's relationship with Lindsay's partner is continuing to grow. And Claire's marriage and new baby are flou...more

I've read all of the Women's Murder Club books. This one was kind of blah. Lindsay Boxer is pregnant and she and her husband don't communicate well at all. He doesn't tell her about going out with a former colleague. She doesn't ask him questions, just overreacts way too much. It got on my nerves. Regular people would just talk about certain things. Forget pregnancy hormones excuse. Claire is always my clearheaded favorite. She has a way of cutting to the chase. Jackson has turned Yuki out, and...more

As you might have guessed from the title, this is the 11th book in the Women's Murder Club series. The series focuses on four women who not only are best friends, but also have jobs that complement each other and allow them to work on all aspects of a case.

*Lindsay Boxer, a lieutenant in the SFPD
*Claire Washburn, the Chief Medical Officer
*Yuki Castellano, the assistant DA
*Cindy Thomas, a reporter

In this particular book, Lindsay is in her first year of marriage to Joe, an FBI agent. Lindsay is al...more

I have enjoyed the Women's Murder Club mysteries, even when they seemed a little contrived. This one was so unnecessarily dramatic with Lindsay Boxer's "hormonal" reactions while pregnant. I was pregnant twice and never qualified for an academy award for a soap opera. It would be upsetting to be told that your husband was cheating on you, if you had an otherwise solid relationship, you could at least ask or confront or whatever. Taking the word of a voice over the phone? Cut me some slack!

11th Hour, by James Patterson and Maxine Paetro, b-plus, Narrated by January LaVoy, Produced by Hachette Audio, Downloaded from audible.com.

Okay, I’m hooked on the Women’s Murder Club books even though they are fairly shallow. They make for fast reads. In this one, Lindsay and her partner have a puzzling case. Drug dealers keep being shot dead. It’s done so professionally that their boss decides it’s probably a rogue cop using guns from their own evidence locker. So Lindsay and Rich have to try...more

It's another fast paced novel for James Patterson as we are reunited with the foursome of the "Women's Murder Club" in the latest installment "11th Hour". In 11th Hour , we learn that Lindsey Boxer is pregnant with husband Joe's baby , Cindy is engaged to Rich Conklin , Yuki is sleeping with Lindsey's boss Jackson and of course Claire is well Claire. As we most of James's novels there are a couple of twists and two main storylines . The first is that somebody is killing all the scum of the stree...more

The actual rating for this book would be 3.5 stars.

Lindsay Boxer is pregnant and working two cases.
When millionaire drug-dealer Chaz Smith is shot down during a children’s concert the murder weapon is one that was stolen from the San Francisco Police Department evidence locker. The weapon has also been used to kill four other drug dealers. It looks like there might be somebody, connected to the SFPD, out to kill those who can’t be touched by justice. And as Lindsay and her partner soon discover,...more

I'm giving this book a 3 star because of the timeline issue. I was going to give it a 2 but overall it was a good book.
10th anniversary ended with the announcement of Boxers pregnancy. This book started 10 months later; however, she's still pregnant and not even in the late stages. I did the quick math on this and it isn't right.

The other thing that irritated me was at the beginning of the book it said the 911 call came in at 0720, they arrived at 0735. Then the officer on scene tells them he ar...more

11th Hour is the 11th book in the popular Women’s Murder Club series by James Patterson and is, once again, co-written with Maxine Paetro. The story starts with a pregnant Lindsay Boxer trying to cover two very different cases. Husband Joe has gone off to Washington for meetings and Lindsay’s partner Rich Conklin has made it clear to his fiancée, reporter Cindy Thomas, that he is eager to become a father. Cindy, however, is much too involved in her career to consider motherhood just now. ME Clai...more

This new book in the Women's Murder Club series started out showing real promise. It is true that you cannot fault Patterson for starting books slowly, and this one does not do that either. But it was even more than that, with two gruesome cases in the mix, one involving a killer going after drug dealers and another one the finding of severed heads in a mansion, things we rolling along great. On top of this, the personal lives of the main characters were primed for interesting events, since Yuki...more

This was an interesting who-done-it, with a lot going on with two different murder investigations. The writing is crisp, the characters are very well-described and the plot was much better than average. I like the 4 strong women characters and their relationships with one another and with their significant others - they face real problems outside their work lives, thereby seeming much more realistic. Although there were some clues in each case, it wasn't an easy one to figure out and there were...more

Book number 11 in the Women's Murder Club series by James Patterson. This is the best book in the series thus far, although that is an exceedingly low bar. In the past I have said I would not read any more books in this series, but I continue to do so mostly because I hate to give up - I have so much time invested already that I hate to quit when there is any chance that the series might get better.

Lindsay Boxer is assigned to two cases simultaneously - the discovery of seven severed heads (minu...more

I've noticed a disturbing trend lately, at least with the fiction I've been reading: the stories in long-running series are getting worse instead of better. Much worse. The characters are developing in reverse, becoming increasingly less intelligent, and the stories are becoming less complex. It's like the writers are getting lazy, and have forgot what made these stories interesting enough to keep the fans coming back.

This disease seems to have infested The 11th Hour. We barely saw Yuki and Clai...more

This was probably the most mediocre addition to The Women's Murder Club. It wasn't bad, but neither was it great. As has become usual with Patterson in this series he tells two seperate stories at the same time. The "House of Heads" story was intriguing enough and for once I failed to work out who the killer was. There wasn't much action to this plot though as this story started with the last of the victims remains being found. The "Vigilante" story though, whilst having considerably more action...more

The subject of a Time magazine feature called, "The Man Who Can't Miss," James Patterson is the bestselling author of the past year, bar none, with more than 16 million books sold in North America alone. In 2007, one of every fifteen hardcover fiction books sold was a Patterson title. In the past three years, James has sold more books than any other author (according...more
