A good book with a unique story. I was not sure why the author titled it the "Unquiet" unless it referred to the occasional voices of the characters' personal ghosts as whispers in their ears. I thought, instead, that it would be more appropriately named Hollow Men since they were referred to so much throughout the story.
Some of the story jumped around a bit and it was not always clear to a speedy reader, such as myself, who was doing the narrating at times or what they were referri...more

I had the pleasure of meeting the author, John Connolly, when this book was released. He was quite charming and very funny. He never read from the book, but I was pulled in from the very first page. Once I began reading, I found it very difficult to put the book down. For those of you who might be interested, look for the music that is mentioned in the book - it's really good! Also, read the final paragraph of the Acknowledgements to find out about The Guesser who appears briefly in the boo...more

Yet another great entry in the Charlie Parker series. A little light on Louis and Angel (can't help feeling that way, they are one of my absolute favorite things about the whole series). The sexual abuse of children is very difficult to read and write about, but Connolly did a fantastic job here. There was the same dark feel as with the prior books. I was happy to see Charlie evolve as a character and my interest is definitely peaked for the next installment!

Just a side note: I always ha...more

A look into a dark world where murder and child abuse reign. A pychological thriller (not a page turner) that exposes the motivations and actions of those whose live a lifes centered on satisfying their abhorrent desires and a protagonist and antagonist who both desire to rid the scene of these deviants.

I read this book because of other thrillers my Connolly, but it was a tough going in spots. Unless a book is really bad, I try to plow through in hopes of some redeeming qualities.

I started a John Connolly group for fans of the Charlie Parker series as well as his stand-alone novels. I was suprised that one had not been started years ago. I am not a huge poster but do enjoy reading what others think about the characters and themes of his novels.

Oh, since this is a review for The Unquiet, I thought it was great. I noticed right off that this was more of a cut and dried, old style detective novel. The story was very linear but engaging and hard to put down. Like so...more

The best Charlie Parker novel in a while, creepy and fast moving. One of the most interesting things about this series is that you're never quite sure whether there is a serious supernatural element or not. Parker's perceptions may be warped by his previous experiences, he himself admits this (in one way or another) in almost every book.

Connolly writes in such a way that the idea that Parker is slightly unhinged, or perhaps hallucinating, is just as plausible as the idea that he's really e...more

I love John Connolly's work. His Charlier Parker (I know..I know) is a dark, brooding and haunted ex-cop turned private investigator. So far it sounds formulaic. But, throw in a little supernatural with a hint of "maybe I am imagining things" and you get a great character.

Charlie Parker deals with "soul things" as well as actual flesh and blood evil. There is a great cast of recurring characters including Louis (a gay African American Hit Man) and his lover, Angel who al...more

I am about halfway through this one. It is riveting. Connolly manages to pack in mystery, suspense, ghosts, crime, and relationships. This is unique stuff. I have to agree with one reviewer who said it is like Thomas Harris by way of Stephen King.

Shiver, shiver. I finished this one late last night. It gave me the heebie jeebies. Let me tell you; it's some scary stuff. I highly recommend it. The last thirty pages were compelling but tough to get through at times because I was looking out the...more

Connolly always has a SF element in his mysteries, this time it's a character called the Collector. It is one of his better mysteries and will be among my 2008 favorites. However you must have a strong mental tolerance on this one since it deals with child abuse. Numerous threads from previous novels are resolved. As always his voice is strong, very descriptive. I listened to the audio version with George Guidall reading who did a great job of narration.

this is a good detective story with a sprinkle of otherworldliness. Charley Parker is a detective who split up with his second wife because his first wife and child are still haunting him. He's hired to find out about a child porn ring, and tracking down the bad guys puts him in contact with some not-human vigilante characters. This sounds stupid, yet I enjoyed it very much. In fact, I read this 500-page book in one sitting.

Whoa ! This book is chilling. I almost put it down, but couldn't,so I had to read it and I am not sure what to say about it. I thought the premise of it was well worth reading,as it deals with child abuse, and being as that is such a horrible problem in our society I couldn't help but understand the feelings of the people who were out for revenge. It is a suspenseful and haunting read, but I am glad I read it.

i've bought and tried to read this book twice. didn't get past the first hundred pages either time. not sure what the problem is. i normally like Connolly, but this one just doesn't work for me. too much atmosphere, maybe, and not enough story. good characters though, just wish he'd have them do something interesting in the first hundred pages so I could see what's on and beyond hundred and one.

This is at the top of my "to do" list, meaning that it is, quite literally, on the top of the ever-growing pile on my coffee table.

I absorbed these books. John Connolly made me feel so deeply for his characters, the good and the bad and the... in-between, I guess. I almost cried when I found out there was a new one coming... out now at the larger stores: "The Unquiet". I can't wait!

Charlie Parker returns along with his sidekicks Angel and Louis. This book has lots of turns and twists but certainly keeps you reading! There are characters galore but for some reason you don't have trouble keeping up with them. As usual his book has a touch of the supernatural, but mainly it is a good mystery.

Despite having the most linear plot of all the Parker books, THE UNQUIET is a superb read, and less cluttered than THE BLACK ANGEL. If there's a fault to be found it's in the lack of Angel & Louis, who ordinarily provide a welcome dose of humor in Connolly's grim tales.

John Connolly's one of my favorites, he never disappoints and certainly doesn't here. Charlie Parker is an excellent character and the lil mix of the supernatural or threat of it makes his books all that more interesting.

A return to form for Connolly after a couple of books that were a little shaky in the structure department--though still solid in content overall. A full review will appear in the third issue of Dead Reckonings.

It was a well written book. There were parts of the story I liked, but I guess due to the subject matter I did not like it as well.

It deals with the living and the dead - also child abuse.

This is the first John Connolly book I've read and while I liked Charlie Parker, it was a difficult book for me to read because of the child abuse. The story is definitely twisted and dark.
