One wonders the reasons for Mr Grisham entering the world of young persons fiction. In a recent interview with The Telegraph Mr Grisham 'jokingly' stated that he was a bit annoyed at losing his position as the Worlds number one author(no prizes who too)and hoped to reverse the situation.
It would therefore firstly be advisable when writing for young people to give them a modicum of intelligence, when referring to the inhabitants of the poorer section of town as "idle people, .., living on welfare...more

Not as good as the first book in the Boone series and as I did with the first book, I tried to read these through the eyes of myself as a child but I think even as a child I wouldn't have rated this book very highly. I didn't think about it until I read a review mentioning it but the first book was filled with underlying messages which I assume are to teach or educate young readers about life, relationships, friendships, family life and the judicial system etc however that was a lot more obvious...more

Theodore Boone is back in a new adventure, and the stakes are even higher. When his best friend, April Finnemore, disappears from her bedroom in the middle of the night, no one, not even Theo—who knows April better than anyone—has answers. As fear ripples through his small hometown and the police hit dead ends, it's up to Theo to use his legal knowledge and investigative skills to chase down the truth and save April. As the police think its Jack Leeper a lost cousin that escaped from prison, the...more
I really liked this book. i've read it before, but i had a frantic rush around to find something to fit into one of my 2 last categories. This is about Theodore Boone, a 13 year old wannabe lawyer who's best friend goes missing and so he thinks it's his job to find her. an awesome adventure, and probably the most realistic book i've ever read.
I decided to read this book because i either had to read a book written in 2010 or 2011 or one written by a New Zealander, and i chose the first option. Th...more

Theodore Boone: The Abduction is an all right book. It has intriguing characters and a good storyline: Theodore Boone’s best friend April Finnemore getting abducted and how he tries to find her.
I, even though I’m 13-years-old, which is Grisham’s target audience, did not enjoy the book. I found it quite boring at the beginning. We get it; Theo really likes April, Theo and his friends go looking for her, the school is really worried. You don’t have to keep talking about it. Speaking of Theo and h...more

This book had me hooked from the beginning. Theodore Boone's best friend April disappears from her bedroom in the middle of the night. Theo was the last person to talk to her. He wants to help April, but doesn't want to tell the police too much about her crazy parents and the crazy life she is living. He is afraid that April will be taken away from her family, so he decides he has to find her on his own. A shady character with ties to the family arrives on the scene to scare everyone. When a bod...more
I really like these Theodore Boone books. I love how straightforward the writing is, I love that i hear Joe Friday narrating, "The food arrived and the waitress refilled the coffee cups. Theo was drinking milk."
This particular story is about Theo's best friend April: she's gone missing. Her mom wakes calls Theo's house at 3:30 am wondering where she is. Theo had last spoken to her around midnight. April called to tell him how scared she is because no one is home and she's all by herself. Somehow...more

‘’The abduction’’ written by John Grisham is a bestselling novel. This book will keep the reader hooked the whole way through.
The main character April is a teenage girl who comes from a rather peculiar family disappears mysteriously one night. Her best friend Theodore has no clue as to the reasons of her vanishing. April is rather reserved and does not like to socialize. Although April shares many things with Theodore he does not share it with the police. This information could help the police i...more

I first read John Grisham during a summer holiday many years ago. I was poking through my uncle's library looking for something to read and he recommends "The Firm". I never heard of him before, but my uncle is a lawyer so no surprise he'd picked it up :)I read it and I was hooked. I read almost all of his books including the non-lawyer stuff. So of course when Theodore Boone came around I just have to pick it up.

Theodore Boone: The Abduction by John Grisham is about a 13 year old boy, whose friend, April goes missing in the middle of the night. April is from a weird family where it is not unusual for a parent to leave town for days, even weeks at a time without notice. The last time Theodore talked to April, she was alone at home with everything locked as she was very scared. While the small town is starting to get more and more worried about April, Theo decides to take matters into his own hands as the...more
The Book that I read was Theodore Boone, The Abduction by John Grisham.
This book is about a child named Theodore Boone who’s parents are both lawyers in the law firm Boone and Boone. Because of this Theodore has always known he has wanted to be a lawyer or something to do with the legal system. For the time being though Theo has a small room in his parents law firm where he helps fellow students, friends, and even sometimes adults. A good mystery with interesting characters. Theo's best friend April has disappeared from her bedroom in the middle of the night and Theo wants to know what happened. April's family may have been messed up, but it seems extremely odd that April didn't let Theo know her plans. Theo and his friends use investigative skills and dogged persistence to pursue leads the police haven't found. It doesn't hurt that both parents are lawyers and Theo has learned a few things about the law and investigations...more
Many of the people in Libya have rebelled against their leader who has been in power for some 30 years. They took action against him before waiting for him to step down because they believe that the laws should change and that no one should be in power for that long. Just like the people of Libya, in Theodore Boone: The Abduction Theo took action and went to find his friend April. Theo has to deal with finding April for about a week. He also has to get over the loss of her disappearing. His feel...more

Oh, John Grisham...maybe I'm nostalgic when remembering your adult books that I've read in the past but this YA book just isn't doing it for me. What happened to your writing skills? This book is exciting, yes, but also predictable. Very predictable. And sure, it's targeted to 6th through 8th graders but you're really selling them short with the lack of advanced vocabulary in this book.

I didn't love The Abduction as much as the first Theodore Boone novel. Not that it wasn't well done. It had more of the fast paced, throw the facts out there, parts that a lot of Grisham novels have. I think what bothered me was that somewhere I saw that these books were intended for a very young, pre-teen audience. I have a daughter that will be in that age range very soon, and I felt that this would have been too scary for her.

Recommends it for:
Grisham fans I guess.
I was really disappointed by this. It never felt alive to me, even as alive as the first book. I'm really disappointed in Grisham. I think he figures it is ok to be sloppy in writing kids thrillers/mysteries and it was a quick buck. Shame on him. Somehow it always felt a few steps away from being "real". Usually if a book is at least decent, I can see the book in action in my mind while reading it. This always felt at a distance to me, as if I could only see it through a fogged up glass or somet...more
I have read John Grisham novels in the past and enjoyed them and so was excited to read this middle school novel - I was not disappointed, this is an exciting, intreguing read for kids.
The beginning immediately draws the reader in when Theo's friend April has been abducted. There is a kind of tough talking detective feel to the book, a bit abrubt and edgy. At the same time, Grisham makes the reader feel for April and her plight and want her rescued, as well as feeling total sympathy for Theo in...more

One sunny afternoon I sat down in my basement trying my very hardest to complete my model boat but nothing I tried ever worked. Knowing that other people had completed this task before I just kept trying and trying. Though many a time the wood either broke or wasn’t the right size I never gave up and kept on working until I finally completed the job. If I hadn’t have kept trying to complete my boat there was no way that I could have completed it. One thing that I referred back to at that moment...more
Theodore Boone is an only child. Both his parents work in the Boone & Boone Law Firm. His uncle used to work there, however an incident occurred, which Theo still doesn't know what happened, and his license to practice law was taken away from him. He is around 60 years old and he lives alone in a Greek couple's house. Theo is around 14 which is my age so it is easy to relate what he is thinking and his actions. This is because he does all the paper work for the couple. I like this book becau...more

Grisham is making me crazy with this book. It's like he decided to write for kids, but he doesn't actually know any kids and he just doesn't know how to write for them. And I'm not sure what his editor was thinking when she let so many unrealistic things stay in this book (see my previous updates). You can't abandon reality to make your story work out the way you want it to. That's a cop-out and lazy writing. That's gripe #1.

Well, what do you know! John Grisham, one of my favorite authors, is writing a series for young readers! I discovered this fact when one of my 5th grade students asked me if I'd ever heard of Theodore Boone, and when I told him I'd research it, I found the author to be a VERY familiar name! I read this book, it is actually the 2nd in this series, and promptly ordered a couple of copies of it AND the first one for my school library! This story was simple, the plot mysterious, but without violence...more
John Grisham pretty much holds a monopoly on courtroom thrillers for adults. He’s become a household name. I mean, what adult hasn’t read at least one of his books or seen a movie based on them? In this series, he’s trying his hand at the children’s genre. My recommendation? Stick with adults, John.
