An assortment of allusions here. We have the classical Outpost Of Empire trappings, from the gin-soaked physician to the dotty housewives and randy colonial types, all fitted out in the starched whites, jodphurs and pith helmets that are standard issue at the wardrobe department. We have the exotic mystique of an arabian sea bordered by the kind of desert and meandering train of camels that look so good in Panavision.
