So apparently cupcakes are huge right now. The Cupcake Diaries books are flying on my shelves, so I thought it wouldn't hurt to look into some of the other cupcake-y series out there. This was a fun, not-too-heavy but not-too-light middle grade read with what looks like some excellent recipes (I'm dying to try the french toast cupcakes). I know Lisa Papademetriou mostly through her Disney fairies books, which I've always enjoyed, so I'm looking forward to seeing where she takes this series. If n...more

Hayley is having enough trouble adjusting to middle school without having to deal with her father's new girlfriend, her mother's unemployment, or the fact that she likes one of her friends who is a boy... kind of as more than a friend. Her family has moved into her grandmother's apartment above her struggling tea shop, so Hayley spends a lot of time helping out, creating new recipes for cupcakes and trying to get her grandmother to realize that she has to keep up with the times if she wants her...more

This is a good book but it leaves you hanging.

Its about a girl called Hayley. She loves to bake cupcakes. She lives with her British grandmother in the teashop as her mum and dad are divorced. Her mum doesn't have a job as each time she messes up the interviews. Her dad has a new girlfriend, Annie. She has 2 BFFS Marco, and Artemis (known as Artie, who is actually a girl). She forces Artie to go for a part in a play. Devon, who Hayley has a crush on, is also in the play. Artie and Devon spend a...more

At First Sight: Hayley is going through a lot of adjustments following the divorce of her parents, her mom being laid off work and their having to move in with her Grandmother into a tiny apartment above Gran's Tea Shop.

At school, things are a little weird as her set of friends is breaking up. Her girl best friend is getting tangled with the drama crowd and ignoring Hayley; and her other best friend Marco is acting weird and it seems like Hayley can never say the right thing to him.

But there i...more

The first book in this series is about a girl named Hayley who has hit a rough point in her life:her father, who is divorced, has an attractive new girlfriend, her mom has lost her job and has to mave her family into Hayley's grandmothers house, and her friends Artie and Marco are acting very differently. Luckily, Hayley sees one bright spot in her rapidly changing life: cupcakes! But will they be enough to sweeten her tough situation?

I really liked this book because it's about a girl with true...more

I really enjoyed this book. It didn't really have that "cant put the book down" factor, but it was still very good. I especially liked it because I can definately relate. I am a girl in middle school that loves to bake and has some serious friend problems. This story could relate to a lot of people because of all of the things that happen. I would definatley say that this book is worth buying even though it is a quick read. The only thing that disappointed me was that not every problem was resol...more

This...THIS...should have been the first book that I started 2013 with (unlike a certain absymal paranormal novel that still gives me the heebie-jeebies). Save the Cupcake! has a sane yet charmingly befuddled heroine, an obnoxious frenemy, a wonderfully unique potential best friend, a masterful handling of broken-home dynamics and CUPCAKES! (with recipes).

I recommend this book as a perfect read for sensible tweens and even ancient creaking adults like yours truly.

I've been trying to "break out" of my go-to genre and decided to read Confectionately Yours as the majority of girls at my school (grades 4-6) have been talking about it. I thought it was going to be a typical, girly-girl novel, but I was pleasantly surprised. This novel is actually kind of deep and deels with some very hard, yet common, middle school struggles (growing up, friends changing, etc.). I really enjoyed this and will probably read the next in the series.

Cute story about a girl named Hayley whose parents are divorcing. She and her best friend Artie are growing apart. Hayley loves to bake cupcakes and begins to sell them at her grandmother's tea shop. Story includes some of the trials of middle school life for girls with friendship issues and boy crushes along with a few family dramas. Has some delicious cupcake recipes to try. Girls will enjoy and relate the the issues Hayley faces.

Pretty cute! I liked the main character a ton. She seemed pretty mature and relatable. And she bakes! Sign me up. I will happily take the place of best friend since that awful girl isn't doing a very good job. For someone with a fabulous name, Artemis sure is kind of a witch with a b. Is that okay to say on goodreads? I will for sure be reading #2 because I want to know what happens with Hottie-Mc-Soccer-Player (even if I think group sports are Lame). This is rambley because it's 1am and I am tir...more

Although this was a good book, it was pretty average. There was nothing (aside from the recipes) that made it stand out from other books. It had the same basic storyline as so many other books: girl makes dumb mistake, mistake ruins girl's life, girl fixes mistake. I often found myself bored and wondering why I was even reading it. Then I remembered. I had paid $5.99 for it. So not worth it.

I thought it was a really good book because it was very discriptive. it is about a girl named Haley that has a little sister named Cloe. Haley loves baking cupcakes and it helps her make life just a little sweeter. Her mom lost her job her parents are devorced ans hr dad har a new girlfriend. And she has to live in her grandma's apartment sharing her room with her sister. She took the cupcakes she made to school one day and everybody loved them. Then in a PTO converence the teachers start to thin...more

I did not expect to like this one, but it did grow on me. Also made one of the recipes out of it, and it was good! The recipes were cutely worked into the storyline or related to the storyline. Enjoyed her approach to dealing with the changes that happen to friendships in the middle grades.

Oh my, this book was totally awesome! It was about a girl named Hayley Hicks. Her parents got divorced. Her hobby is making up new recipes of cupcakes. She is very independent. Though later on her life takes a turn and her friend Artemis and Marco start ignoring her

I enjoyed the book. Sometimes life is not easy. Sometimes life is painful. But, hang in there...the seemingly unlucky of today may be lucky. It all depends on your perspective. I think Lisa portrayed well family, friends and being true to self.

This is a good book that my 11yr old daughter and I read together. I recommend it. It's also worth 5 A.R points if your school does the Accelerated Reader program. We plan on reading the 2nd book within the next couple weeks.
Christine
A charming book for kids that like realistic fiction with a manageable amount of drama. AND I loved the cupcake recipes interspersed in the chapters that were always somehow related to what was going on in the story.

i thought this book was really good it is about a girl named haley who's parents are gETTING DIVORCED HER MOM HAS JUST LOST HER JOB AND NOW HER BEST FRIENDS ARE TURNING ON HER haleys world is far from perfect trust me

nice little fluff book--quick read if you are looking for a no-brainer. slightly disappointing ending (just because the author doesn't really resolve all the threads), it was obviously left open for the next book Taking the Cake.
Sarah
Do you think middle school is tough? Well the girl in this book is doing it with divorced pearents. She has an annoying little sister and grummpy dad just got a new girlfriend.

This is a great book! I couldn't believe what happened! I wanted to read the next book in the series so bad after finishing it. I'm reading Taking The Cake now.

This book was good. I was appealed to it because of the pretty cupcakes on the cover! I can not wait to read the sequel. This book is good for teen girls, because they can really connect to the character.
