Is dragon a person?
And weasel? Or insect?
Fantasy usually describes human or humanoid characters. Men, elves, hobbits, dwarves, even orks are more or less like humans with some features enhanced and some missing. So among many fantasy worlds, Aligare created by Heidi C. Vlach is unique because there are no human characters. Protagonists of the story are three peopleskinds. Korvi are half-bird, half-lizard dragon-like winged creatures. Furry Ferrin is a bit similar to squirrel or weasel with long
I'm sure if I didn't have over 3K books to read on my Kindle alone I might have the patience for this book. But I have found myself not reading just to avoid finishing this book. I think my biggest problem with the book is trying to keep track of the alien names for the beings on this planet, yet they have Earth names for grains and other utensils. And the story is so slow in getting off the ground. Maybe if I could relate to any of the main characters in any way I would have read further. It se ...more
Remedy: A Story of Aligare by Heidi C. Vlach is a fantasy story set on a planet called Aligare. Aligare is peopled by multiple sentient races that live and work together to their mutual benefit. In this gentle story there are two story lines, one, about having the courage to make changes in your own life to better yourself and those around you. Review of Remedy by Heidi C. Vlach review by Stephen B. Pearl.

On rare occasions one is privileged to be present at the start of something spectacular. This, the first book by Heidi, may just be such a privilege. Heidi has an excellent grasp of interpersonal relationships adding a level of depth and reality to her characters interactions that one seldom sees.

Her characters themselves are interesting “people” who you not only get to know but want to get to know. The affection, and in some places

The good: gorgeous lyrical writing style, interesting characters and world, unique plot, great depth to the character development
The not so good: slow plot progression, vagueness in some aspects of the world building, unsure about the grammar

Heidi kindly shared her book with me and requested that I give an honest review.

Remedy introduces a unique world and characters. Peregrine is a dragon like creature who works against his nature to mine stones from the earth and depends upon a little high voi
Remedy is a fantasy medical novel set in the world of Aligare.

For an introduction to the world and a description of the different races the author’s website is very useful

Peregrine is a long lived dragon like creature who has spent many years working as a miner. This has lead to damage to his hearing. To assist him as an aid he has adopted a family of short lived weasel like creatures called ferrin whose high pitched voice he can still hear. Tillian his adopted daughter has

It's an idea I've never heard of and She was able to weave them together perfectly.

Recommends it for: Everyone looking for a story about overcomming sickness, and not an arch villan

Absolutely sublime from start to finish, most of the time I was crying, either from my heart going out to the amazingly well told and defined characters or in shared joy for their triumphs. After a while the very well crafted terms for everything in the world just becomes natural, brightcasting, darkcasting, plantcasting etc etc etc. Each of the races felt as alive and real as if they where standing right next to me. I've read a lot of fantasy books of every kind and this must be one of the fine ...more
This book was beautifully written, but lacked in a few areas. Firstly it would have been nice to have a better sense of what the creatures looked like, there is hardly an description at all and as they are fantasy creatures it is even harder to imagine. Without giving anyway an spoilers I felt as though the story had no real point when I got to the end and was left disappointed, which was a shame as I had been enjoying the book.

A good read with many different characters to experience the tale from their sight. I liked most of them, even the one dragon-type was able to redeem himself by the end. My favorite was Tillian, the little furry character, by far. This story may not be perfect technically, and it may not have human kind but that doesn't deter from the fact it's a good book.

I received this ebook to review from Library Thing Giveway and while I appreciated the opportunity to review this fantasy story. I had a difficult time trying to keep the story straight as I went. This story has a lot of potential if it was reworked and rewritten to clarify the plot and characters.
Total utter surprise. A delightful book that started slow and then just pulled me in.
