Wesley is the class nerd. He is good at writing and loves books, so when his class takes a field trip to the ancient library in town, he is excited to go. He prepares an essay for the contest to be judged by the ancient curator, which is promptly confiscated by the class bully. While exploring the library with his friend Taylor, the two happen upon a terrified wild boy who seems to be straight out of a children's book. Things only get stranger from there.

I thought this was a fantasti More...

An introverted, bookwormish boy goes on a class field trip to the local library, an unusual building not unlike a castle, complete with a mysterious past. The class bully picks on him en route, and takes his short story - an extra credit assignment and entry to a contest at the library. The story follows his adventure in the library and also the larger story of the library and librarian, the threat of demolition and the impact of books upon the world. This is the first volume in a projected seri More...

This is definitely a page turner. I downloaded the book yesterday and I finished the book this morning. I really enjoyed Wesley, the main character. I can definitely relate to Wesley because I was bullied as a child and as an educator I see students bullied all the time. Children who have been bullied will be able to relate to Wesley. The relationship that Wesley has with Taylor reminds me of the relationship Harry Potter had with Hermione. The characters are realistic and I love the way Eric Ho More...

The Librarian, Book 1: Little Boy Lost is the start of a delightful new series for children. The main character is Wesley, a young man who is a good student, an avid reader, a compelling writer and the target of the school bully. The bully is Randy. Wesley does have one friend, Taylor. The "Librarian" is the caretaker of the Astoria library, which, of course, is the place of legends and magic.

What a wonderful, original, well written story! I was enthralled from the beginning. As a lover of reading, and a parent who reads to my child, this was an incredible book. I received it from LibraryThings Member giveaways but I will gladly pay for the next in the series. The author, Eric Hobbs, is masterful at telling a story. The main characters, Wes and Taylor, are easy to relate to and (smiling as I write this) just plain fun! I want to go to this Library!!! Reminded me somewhat of a movie I More...

I would have given this one 3.5 stars if I was able to.

The story is about two friends who go on a class excursion to an old library. The library has been put on the demolition list and is due to be bulldozed to make room for a shopping centre. Whilst at the library strange things start to happen, which include characters from Peter Pan and the Wizard of Oz.

The book is for younger readers, but there is some swearing and minor violence in it.

I enjoyed the story More...

I'm hard pressed to say exactly what I think of this book. The plot was spot-on and right up my aisle. I loved the idea of being able to visit different books, and even - ala "The Eyre Affair" - influence the plot enough to change endings.

I wasn't too impressed by the writing though. It seemed unfinished somehow. Had this been a draft, I would have said it had great potential, but I think the editors did Eric Hobbs a disservice by not getting him to polish it off properly. More...

Imagine a library that led you to places that only books have dared to go. Visit the yellow brick road from Oz, see Neverland in person, but what if you did something to change these stories while happily hopping along. Would it change the course of all stories related to the original? Wesley and Taylor find out the hard way the answers to these questions.
I thought this was a great opening to a series that can only grow with time, it could even encourage those who have never read the origi More...

I really enjoyed this book . As a grandma I am always looking for books my grandkids can read. I especially like books about the magic of all books. You can go anywhere and do anything through the pages of a good book. Wesley is bullied in school but upon entering a magical libray and stepping into a book he finds strengths. This book would be good for reluctant readers and experienced readers as well. They will be encouraged to open the pages of Peter Pan or The Wizard of Oz. I can not wait to More...

I love the premise, largely because it's very similar to The Pagemaster, and I adore The Pagemaster. Children getting sucked into the world of books, encountering their favorite literary characters, saving the world of stories... magical. Why didn't that ever happen to me in the library as a kid?

The story could be more well-executed, but it has a lot of promise. Some character stereotyping, but not terrible. A little bit of telling instead of showing, also something that will hopeful More...

It is a very well told story. I got lost in the story and was sorry to see it end. Can't wait to read the next book.
Wesley is bullied a lot from Randy. Taylor his friend is always standing up for him.
On a field trip to the Library weird things happen and they get pulled into a story. Wesley learns some important lessons.

A truly enjoyable book, well written and a great story. I really would love to visit this Library. I have not read all the classics listed in this book, but am familiar with them and think it would be great fun to step into the pages.. If we could only visit our favorite books like this. I'm sure young readers will love this book, very engaging.

I'm looking forward to the next book in the series, I must find out what happens to Oz.

Some of my favorite books are about the magical world of books and libraries. Inkheart and Endymion Spring rank high on my lists. This book obviously leaves room for sequels and I can not wait to see where this series goes. A couple friends enter a huge old library and end up in the Wizard of Oz.. They make a small change unaware that it will change the book for future readers. And just how that changes leaves you waiting for more. I especially like the author is starting a reading club for k More...

I really enjoyed this book. I think my daughter will too, at least I hope. It's about a boy Wesley who goes on a field trip with his class to the library. There the adventure begins, this library has some powerful secrets and right when you really start to get into the story and feel like somethings are going to be explained, the book ends. It did feel a little short but it was a very good beginning.

Excellent book. This story is fast paced and full of excitement. It's a great read for an adult and an outstanding read for a teen or kid. The idea of these everyday kids getting to explore storybook worlds is awesome. And the added bonus is how the writer makes you want to run out and read the original stories! I am gonna pray he writes more.

Not a bad little fantasy / "lost in a book" sort of book for kids, but not exceptional either.

I felt it could have used some polishing - the writing was competent enough, but the occasional awkward phrasing and head-hopping got a little distracting at times. I think I'd have liked it better at age ten than age thirty-six, though.

Loved the book and so glad its going to be a series.

I started this with my nephew. He and I loved it. Imagine that a library was not just a library but a portal to all the books you love. That's what happens to Wes and Taylor. They meet Locke from Peter Pan and the Tin Man from the Wizard of Oz.

We cant wait to find out what happens.

The Librarian is a good start to a new series. Although there was some stereotyping of the characters there is room for them to grow and change as the series progresses. Hopefully these books will induce people to read some of the classics that are featured in the stories.

I won The Librarian - Book One on Library Thing and found it to be a a fun book. It's definitely geared to the young adult/juvenile crowd, of course; but still, I found it quite enjoyable and look forward to the next installment. It would make a great movie too.
