In this installment of the Dark Mission series Karina takes her readers on a small revisit of the main characters from the past two full length books. I was pleased to see how Silas and Jessie, and Naomi and Phin are coming to terms with their new lives. Everything these characters knew at the beginning of their book is completely different now. They are struggling with new relationships, different living environments, unaccustomed abilities, all while trying to find a new way to be useful.

BOOK REVIEW by Michelle 24th January 2013:

RATING : 4 SILAS STARS!

This was a great novella, a little bridge between Lure of the Wicked #2 and All Things Wicked #3. I do recommend not skipping over this book. It is around 100 pages so it is a reasonable sized novella.

What did I like about this book? I liked Silas and Naomi . Silas’s heart is taken by Jessie, but Naomi is special to him too. You can tell they have that working, growing up history. He knows how to talk to her.

This is a great little short story for fans of the Dark Mission series to tide you over until the next full length novel. It picks up shortly after the events of Lure of the Wicked, and follows Jessie, Silas and Naomi as they adjust to the changes in their lives.

For Jessie, it's about finding her own value, living among the ex-soldiers. She is pushing herself further and further to use her skills as a witch to contribute. Meanwhile, Naomi is struggling with her new found powers and her separatio...more

I loved this little bite after the first two books. Just because the characters in the previous two books found their love doesn't mean everything is perfect. Far from it - and I applaud Cooper for writing it this way.

I'm still a sucker for Naomi and Phin. I love, love, love how flawed Naomi is, and how Phin can (over time) heal her soul-deep pain. With Jessie and Silas, too, you see that relationships, love, and flaws take time.

I like everything Karina Cooper writes. But, I found this to be sort of jarring. I might have preferred not to spend my evening reading about the troubles some of my favorite characters were having with each other. I know that this is an intense series and thats what I love about it. But, she left us with a HFN, I would have been happy to stay that way.

Naomi's character has weakened a bit from book2 till now. Way to much and the self-loathing I don't deserve to be loved issue. However, I love the history and continued relationship between Nai and Silas. Also, can't get enough of Phin, what a man!

After writing happily ever afters for all of her friends in school, Karina Cooper eventually grew up (sort of), went to work in the real world (kind of), where she decided that making stuff up was way more fun (true!). She is the author of dark and sexy paranormal romance, steampunk urban fantasy, and writes across multiple genres with mad glee.

One part glamour, one part dork and all imagination,...more
