"There are some things a girl never forgets, Ry. And one of those is a kiss from a right guy."
There are some things I know I would likely find in Julie James's books.
1. No TSTL heroine
2. Informative stuffs
3. Hilarity
4. Great supporting characters
5. No unnecessary misunderstandings in romance
About That Night is no exception. Rylann Pierce aka Prosecutrix Pierce and Kyle Rhodes aka Smug Dimples are two down to earth characters. Rylann was a typical Julie James's heroine. Strong, independent, ambit...more

Julie James makes me want to throw my psychology degree out the window and try out for law school instead. If all this sass and bad-assery is what they teach in law, sign me up!

Usually in sleek, black business suits for court, here is Rylann in worn flannel. (view spoiler)

★★★★½ Enjoyed this one a lot, despite it being a bit chick-lit-ish (not my usual genre). Ms. James is one of those authors who ‘writes great heroines’ – and Rylann Pierce is certainly such a specimen. Some people described her as snarky (or boring); I found her intelligent and articulate.

The third addition to the FBI/US Attorney series by Julie James. Kyle Rhodes, the brother of Jordan Rhodes from the previous book, A Lot Like Love is a computer genius who shut down the twitter website and was sent to prison. After four months he is out. Assistant Rylann Pierce now needs his testimony regarding a different case.
Lots of funny banter and great characters. A joy to read. It may not be my favorite of the series but it's still really good. I would have liked to see more "romance" in...more

I’m a huge Julie James fan and her previous book, A Lot Like Love was a favorite of mine last year. In that book we meet Kyle, the son of a billionaire, a brilliant computer scientist, and also a prison inmate. Yes the hero of this book is an ex-con. A very sexy, adorable one at that.
Although Kyle is extremely wealthy, he works hard as the vice president of network security for his father’s company. He also plays hard too, and when his supermodel girlfriend dumps him via twitter, and then posts...more

One million stars!! What? Yup, you read right. In all my 1000+ reviews on Goodreads, the most i have credited to an author was either 10 stars or 100 stars, but this book exceeded my expectations AND THEN SOME! I'm sure we have all been excited for a book, only for it to fall flat when we finally got our hands on it, well... About That Night is NOT ONE OF THOSE BOOKS!!! This is a good book. Make no mistake about that. Another more than solid contemporary romance from Julie James. Damn, she writes them well. I wish she could write faster!
The thing is, when you wait eight months for a book sometimes your expectations run away with you. In A Lot Like Love we met Kyle Rhodes, brother of Jordan Rhodes (ALLL's Heroine), and the catalyst for Jordan's actions in that book. This is the point where I say you either like how Julie James writes or you don't. I do think she writes better contemporary romance than most, but it's not ideal for me either. I have my pet peeves like over-repetition of certain jokes, the missed opportunities with familial interactions, and nipples. That's all I'm going to say about the sex scenes this time. Nipples.

April 2012?! Kill me now.
Another great romance by Julie James. The tension in the story centered around the H/h making their romance work, despite the fact he’s an ex-con and she an Assistant US Attorney. This was a huge plus for me. I liked the fact that there was no psycho bad guy to be found. There’s something about a straight forward romance with no romantic suspense subplot that just appeals to me. (Probably because the psycho stalker theme is the “go to” plot device to create tension in a romance novel right now.)...more
Kyle gazed down at her. “I lied when I said I followed you to the bar because you’re hot.” He touched her cheek. “I saw you laughing with your friends, and your smile sucked me right in.”

Most of you already know how obsessed I am with Julie James, so it comes to no one's surprise that I actually BOUGHT this ebook right after it's release. So, I paid full price, been drooling over Kyle since the last book, and it's Julie James - obviously, I went in with high expectations. Maybe it was because of those high expectations, but I was a little disappointed with About That Night.

1/26/13 reread: Kyle. Happy sigh.

Another smart, witty novel from James.
Her previous heroines are strong, capable women. They're confident in themselves and their place in the world. I wish we'd see more like them in contemporary romance. Rylann is another stellar heroine. She knows what she wants and isn't afraid to go after it. I loved that there wasn't a lot of emo angst over the L word in this novel.
I think the conflict came across as rather weak. The fact that she was a US Attorney a...more

An absolutely enchanting story. Witty dialogue, bright and interesting characters, and an author who really knows the subject she is writing about. Plus, she never talks down to the reader or insults our intelligence.

This book was well written, but I found it a little bland, not witty or interesting enough for me, despite the sexy hero (who I really liked) and the appearance of past charming characters. The previous books were much better than this one in my opinion.

If you thought that only supermodels were hot, then you surely haven't read Julie James's novels. Because frankly I can't think of anything sexier than a female attorney.
What I like about James is that in her novels, her female characters are always confident, poised and witty. Talk about female empowerment!

Another fantastic instalment in Julie James’ FBI/US Attorney series! This time, the story is about Rylann Pierce, Assistant US Attorney, and billionaire-heir, computer genius, ex-con and gorgeously sexy Kyle Rhodes (brother of Jordan, the heroine from book 2 - A Lot Like Love).

So the third installment in this series focuses on the U.S. Attorney Rylann, and Kyle, Jordan’s very hot, very bad, very sweet brother. Now I think this book was unique from the other two in a variety of ways, starting with the fact that these two met, and had a “thing” for each other in college. However, due to circumstances beyond their control, they were unable to really connect, and they lose touch for several years.
Now Kyle is such a charmer, its unbelievable. My fave lines:

Rylann Pierce and Kyle Rhodes had an encounter in Champaigne, Illinois nine years ago when she was a law school student and he was completing his graduate work. I just finished this and while I did like it more than the last book by Julie James, A lot like love, it still was not on par with my favorites by her. I think the reason it worked better is that James wisely returned to writing a lawyer heroine. Clearly, her knowledge of law and affinity for witty, sexy banter is her strong suit and that is where she should stay! The last book, where the heroine was instead a wine shop owner (and heiress!) just did not work for me. Anyway, about this book!

“I will never, ever regret stopping you from walking out of my life a second time, Kyle," she said in an emotional voice. "And I can prove it."
She reached for the buttons on her trench coat and undid them, one at a time. Then she opened the coat and let it drop to the floor.
And even if she didn't say a single word more, Kyle knew he would never again doubt the way Rylann felt about him.
She was wearing his flannel shirt.
"You kept it," he said softly. "All this time."
She nodded. "For nine years, I've held on to this darn shirt, literally dragging it across the country and back."
Kyle touched her cheek, gently brushing away a tear with his thumb. "Why?"
She paused hesitantly, and then with a tender smile, finally put it all on the line, too. "I guess I always hoped you'd come back for it someday.”
