On a scale, I’m probably 80% happy and 20% not so much after the conclusion of HOT FOR FIREMAN.

Although the plot was pretty one focused in a way, the characters were the most disturbing part of the second book in the Bachelor Firemen novels.

From meeting Ryan Blake in THE FIREMAN WHO LOVED ME, I would have never thought he wouldn’t go after what caught his eye or question his abilities, but a year and a half since the first book and a major career mistake later, Ryan Blake is a changed man.

This time around we get to know more about the sexy as sin, makes you weak at your knees with a mere look, toned in all the right places, Ryan Blake.

From the first book in the series I got to know a little about him and his affirmations but it was more about the fact that he can get any girl to do anything all night long by just smiling at her. But this time the author peeled back the layers and really gave me as reader the low down on him.

He did not have a great childhood and yes ladies he was a bad boy (don't you just love those) but he has worked hard to work his way up the ladder and prove he is more than just a pretty face with a bad rep. Only he has one small flaw and that is that he never thinks only reacts and that is what causes him to loose his job as fireman.

But with this it also brings him to the cute as a button but very feisty Katie. Katie has a exceptionally hard time to keep her fantasies about Ryan at bay as she believes there is no way a hot guy like Ryan would want her. Along with this the author also brings into play a series of fire related events that draws Katie and Ryan deeper together with a passion so explosive it will leave you just as breathless as I was.

The author also let me as reader a little deeper into the lives of the other fire fighters who are no doubt going to have their own books,hopefully coming very soon.

The dialogue was fun and witty and the little sayings Ryan and Katie throw at each other was really delightful. The author truly packed this read with emotion, passion and just plain good old fashioned hot romance!

I loved how the author sent across a message of sometimes the unexpected of events can lead you right to where you need to be, and under the surface of a pretty face lies the true heart of a hero.

Ryan was and will forever be a character that will stay with me and remind me that letting go of the past and focusing on your future instead of trying to run from it is a life lesson that must be remembered.

I look forward to the next part of the truly hot series.

I really enjoyed this book. There are aspects of the series that remind me of Suzanne Brockmann's Troubleshooters and the Tall, Dark and ... series. When we catch up with Ryan eighteen months after those events, he is most definitely a different man than the one we met in book one. He's more reflective and cautious and trying really hard to control the impulses that got him in trouble in the first place. We find out there is much more to Ryan. He's a man that needs to have a sense of family and people around him that he can love and protect.

When Katie Dune meets Ryan Blake, it's as he's coming to the rescue of her family's faltering bar's bouncer. She's rubbed the wrong way by him because of his overly friendly nature, but she's also drawn to him (and not only for his gorgeous face). When he hops behind the bar to help her, she agrees to hire him, but she didn't know that Ryan would thrown her entire world out of whack (more than it already is). As Katie tries to come up with ways to get the money the bar needs to stay afloat, Ryan is right there helping her at every turn and working his way into her heart.

Ryan and Katie were a case of opposites attracting. He being the type of person show doesn't mind being the center of attention (whether it be brother in arms, 50 women cutting loose at a bachelorette party, or a cute four year old) while Katie has a hard time dealing with people one on one, let alone en masse. But they balance each other out, just like a good couple should. Where they have a similar trait is being able to share their feelings with someone else, but they manage to get that right eventually.

This was a fun read, mainly because of Ryan and the winks and comments he would use on Katie just to throw her off. His fun-loving persona was enough to counteract Katie's uptight nature and loosen her up a bit.

If you're wondering about their heat, they are hot. Hot in a "I can't wait to get you some place decent so let's pull off in the wooded area so I can have you" kind of way.

If you read The Fireman Who Loved Me, you will most definitely enjoy this next installment in the series. If you haven't, you'll still be able to pick this up without missing a beat.(less)

I was looking forward to Ryan’s story in Hot For Fireman and was disappointed. I fell in love with The Fireman Who Loved Me, the characters and Jennifer Bernard writing but I could not get into this book.

It started off okay with Katie and Ryan having some bickering moments but I did not feel any chemistry between them. The characters seemed flat.

I wasn't sure how I'd like this book, as this is still a relatively new author to me. And honestly, though it was an entertaining read, I'm also left confused.

See, my first major gripe having to do with a key plot point - namely the great idea to start a fire for insurance money, which is also known as fraud. Why this would even occur to Katie, someone who seems like a relatively intelligent person, baffled me, and I didn't necessarily find it funny. It spiraled out in semi-ridiculous ways, and...more I wasn't sure how I'd like this book, as this is still a relatively new author to me. And honestly, though it was an entertaining read, I'm also left confused.

See, my first major gripe having to do with a key plot point - namely the great idea to start a fire for insurance money, which is also known as fraud. Why this would even occur to Katie, someone who seems like a relatively intelligent person, baffled me, and I didn't necessarily find it funny. It spiraled out in semi-ridiculous ways, and started getting really over the top to the point of distraction near the end. Katie's actions didn't seem to match her personality.

Next, we never see the situation that gets Ryan suspended, we only hear about it; same for his year and a half away. I was never fully invested in that plot line because I didn't really believe it. Maybe if we had seen it as a prologue I might have felt differently. I also get that the point of him being away was to mature up a bit from who he was in Book 1, but even that I didn't entirely buy. I wanted to, but it just seemed off to me. If it was so important to have Ryan learn from his mistake, shouldn't we have seen it happen (versus being told about it)? We didn't see a whole lot of Ryan in Book 1, so how do we know he really changed? He was pretty devoted to Ella Joy throughout a good part of Book 1. This whole back story just didn't flow that smoothly for me.

Then it was the set up for the characters meeting. With the last book, the meet-cute of having the main characters thrown together because of an auction was actually adorable. With this book, the meet-cute seemed way forced. The whole suspension bit, working his way back onto the team was plausible, but honestly came out of nowhere. There were a few hints in Book 1 about Ryan's reckless behavior, but I honestly didn't take it seriously. I guess I expected to see it come to a head, and it did, but off page, which wasn't satisfying.

But despite the initial meeting feeling forced, the characters themselves were entertaining and I generally liked them - Ryan and Katie were fun. I'm still not entirely sold on Katie, as she does some truly dumb things, but I liked the way she interacted with Ryan. Ryan, too, was a bit of a surprise - I liked that he wasn't a totally superficial player - so I stuck with or let go of the gripes I had with the situations they put themselves in... (view spoiler) and I'm choosing to take the story for the entertainment it's supposed to be and let it go. Still, I wish they could have met under different circumstances. I could have done without the whole arson drama.

So, while this was a fun read, it was also a confusing one. I'm not used to liking the characters but not the situations, and I can't help but wonder what it would have been like if they were put into different scenarios than the ones in the book.(less)

I said it again and Jennifer Bernard is brilliant, naughty and imagination with this series. Her family chose her to run the bar, since she was only in graduate school and not already working another job. Plus she is her father's favorite, so he is who he wants tending his bar.

But Katie knows nothing about running a business, and the bills are piling up. When her first big idea to draw in a crowd turns out to be a bust, and Ryan showing up to help out, she hires him to tend bar. After a small fire scare that Katie tells her family about, they all seem disappointed that the bar doesn't actually burn down. After that, Katie starts figuring out a way for the bar to burn down so her family can collect the insurance money. Unfortunately, Katie has no idea that Ryan was a fireman and he keeps saving the bar.

We don't get to see much of the guys from the firehouse, except during a little strip tease some of them do for a bachelorette party. Then we get to see (or at least imagine) quite a bit of them. *wink* Captain Brody and Melissa, from book 1, show up in several scenes and it is nice to be able to check up on them and see how they are doing.

The themes of forgiveness was once more in this book. Forgiving others, yourself and acceptance of the past. I enjoyed this book and gave it 3 stars on Goodreads, because I would have liked to have seen a bit less of a cliched ending.(less)

HOT FOR FIREMAN by Jennifer Bernard is fun, witty, endearing, gentle, sweet yet steamy hot and oh, so very sexy. It's everything you want in a relationship and that's everything you get in this story. Katie is helping her folks out by running the family bar. She doesn’t know what she is doing, doesn’t know how to pay the bills, and is at a loss for what to do. When she realizes a fire would pay out their insurance money, she decides that might be the best course of action. But Ryan is there at her every attempt. But despite her fire-starting tendencies, Ryan is attracted to her, and the fire between them heats up to dangerous levels.

I love fireman, but for some reason this book did not work for me. I had a lot of issues with it that only seemed to escalate as the book went on. The biggest problem in this book for me was the whole drama surrounding the bar, and Katie’s desire to torch it. Call me crazy, but I would think MOST people would know that Insurance companies take arson very seriously, and an insurance payout in those cases don’t come easy. In my opinion, Katie thinking she could burn the place down and not only NOT get in trouble, but also get a full insurance payout is just ludicrous. Then the lengths that she goes to, just seemed to ridiculous and over the top to the point that it pulled me out of the little bit of enjoyment the story was holding.

I did like Ryan’s character. I thought we got a great look at his history, what makes him tick and has made him the man he is today. I enjoyed getting to hear more about his father and see him with Brody’s young daughter. Ryan was the one and only reason that I continued to read this book through the finish. Unlike Ryan, I didn’t feel any kind of connection to Katie, while she was sweet in doing a favor for her family, I also felt as if she let them walk all over her, and whined about her situation instead of actually doing something to fix it. I wanted more from her character, and felt as if she was a somewhat hollow character.

In addition to that, I didn’t understand their romance either. It was obviously stated they were attracted to one another, but I never really felt their relationship come through. I never really understood WHY they were attracted to one another, and had a difficult time really becoming invested in their relationship. That being said, there were a few scenes that I did enjoy reading: namely the fireman stripping scene. That was great!

All in all I wasn’t impressed with the second installment of the Bachelor Fireman of San Gabriel series. I thought the whole plot surrounding burning down the bar was poorly done and too over-the-top for me to actually enjoy. Had it not been for my love of Ryan, I would have quit reading in the middle of the book.

Reading this book was so frustrating. I genuinely liked one of the characters and some of the story, and then there was the rest.

I can't think of specific plot points that I liked off the top of my head (clearly they made a big impression :| ), but there were some elements that I liked.

I HATED Katie's situation. OMG hated. It was so unbelievable that any businesspeople with true interest in not driving that business into the ground would leave their French-literature-major grad student with no business sense or experience daughter the full responsibility of a foundering bar. The attempted explanation of why they did it (I would have flipped the eff out on my mom if she put me aside about business matters with which I didn't have experience because of my dad's health, expected me to continue to take care of that business, and then put me off with such a lame excuse - oh, so much rage that an author would think it was ok to include such a frustrating plot) just made me more angry. Had I been in that situation I would have told my parents to stick their problems where the sun doesn't shine and never spoken to them again; who wants someone so completely self-centered in their lives? I want to be able to relate to the characters in a story; connections to other texts/self/world help with comprehension. There is simply nothing to connect with in this situation unless you are the child of parents who are supposedly the picture of a normal suburban life but give less than a $hit molecule about you or your needs, give you no chance to have your own life, and care more about their own (questionable at that - if even thinking or speaking about a part of your life makes you so mad that you're about to stroke out, then you are not likely to live through dumb things like traffic long enough to have that conversation about the bar) problems than your autonomy.

I also didn't like much about Katie in general and especially her response to her parents tossing aside their complete responsibilities as parents and business owners and forcing them upon her. For such a ragey b-word, she sure turned doormat easily. There was also a serious lack of self-worth in both her response to her parents and in her relationship with Doug that was not at all explained by her backstory. She jumped to bar-as-inferno too quickly - normal non-criminals don't find committing a crime that easy to choose.. She fell in "love" too handily - it felt more like he'll-never-pick-me-I-hero-worship-him than love (although, as mentioned, there is a lot to like about the man).

This is really a 2.5-star book, but I don't give half stars so rounding up it is. If there is another in the series, I will likely read it. The first one was ok, and I am a series junkie. Besides, she can't get two rage-inducing plots past the editors, can she?(less)

Who can resist a loveable, sexy fireman like Ryan? Not me. Having fallen for Ryan in the first Bachelor Fireman of San Gabriel book, The Fireman Who Loved Me, I was eager to read his book. Hot for Fireman is even better than its predecessor, though Ryan isn’t as lightheartedly charming in his own book. He is, however, determined to help Katie whether she likes it or not. I felt for Katie; running Hair of the Dog is not something she ever wanted to do and having a failing bar dumped on you would drive anyone insane. Arson is never a solution, but I definitely didn’t blame Katie for being desperate – I would be too, in her situation. Because author Jennifer Bernard made me sympathetic toward Katie’s plight, I was drawn into Hot for Fireman. I wanted to see things work out for Katie and I definitely enjoyed watching her and Ryan fall in love.

Hot for Fireman can be read as a standalone, but readers who enjoyed The Fireman Who Loved Me will surely be pleased to catch up with some of their favorite characters from that book. I thoroughly enjoyed seeing more of Ms. Bernard’s sexy firefighters and I’m looking forward to reading more Bachelor Firemen of San Gabriel books.(less)

I very much enjoyed this book. I did have one or two issues with it that I overlooked because of the characters I liked so much. I didn't care for the starting fires part and thought it could have been handled differently. Most of the time I liked Katie Dane and all time I liked Ryan Blake. I also liked the other fire fighters in the story and can't wait for them to get their own books. The growth in this book worked well too. It's a feel good read.

DNF for me. What happened to the characters?? I kept on reading hoping to see more of the hero and heroine's evolution, but I had to put it away at the end of Chapter Seven when the heroine seriously considers doing the very stupid thing she wants to do (what would it have cost her to sit down with her father and have an actual mature conversation about how she feels and to ask him himself about his opinion of the bar?). No. Just no.
