If Derrick thought experiencing alternate timelines and glimpses into the future was strange, then he had no idea it was about to get a whole lot more strange.
When Derrick Sloane meets Annie Maddock and falls madly in love, he believes he's met the girl of his dreams. Only he then awakes to discover she is exactly that...nothing more than a dream. Disheartened, he goes to...more

Just when I thought I'd figured out where this story was going, it took another twist. The romance between Derrick and Annie starts with an innocent meeting at The Coffee Shop due to a chance occurrence; Derrick's routine is altered, and he ends up somewhere he's never been before. The two begin their romance, and it's sweet and funny. Annie is a quirky, offbeat character. The banter between them feels natural and the romance sweet until Derrick wakes up and everything has changed.

Wealthy, handsome Derrick Sloane stops at a coffee shop and meets the love of his life. Annie Maddock is a sweet, vulnerable, smart woman trying to define herself under her own terms. I liked her immediately. (Derrick is also sweet and vulnerable, and perhaps a little too good to be true, but I found it impossible to resist his charms.)
What appears to be a traditional sweet romance takes a turn about one hundred pages into the story when Derrick wakes up one morning to find that his relationship...more

I'm not sure why this book has such a super-high rating. I think concept gets a "A," without a doubt! However, that said, the execution gets a "C," and plot gets a sad, sorry "D-."
First of all, all the dialog is tedious and the story shuffles along pretty slowly until our hero, Derrick, starts bouncing through time. Annie digs him, hates him, loves him, dumps him, turns into a corporate fashionista, stays her humble brilliant self, has accidents, dies, survives, has incurable diseases - all beca...more

What would happen if the lines between dreams and reality were blurred? If you couldn't tell whether a dream was just that, or it actually occurred? Over and over again, things become more confusing. Wouldn't you feel as if you were losing your mind?

Annie and Derrick Sloane meet at a coffee shop, they talk, they like each other but their meeting is destined, or is it?
I loved the dialogue in this book, at times it had me giggling and at others I was wondering if I should go and get the tissue box.
The story is all but simple. Derrick dreams, over and over again. His dream starts out with how it came to be that he landed in a way of route coffee shop called The Coffee Shop and so came to meet the woman of his dreams, Annie.

Review for Coffee Shop by Lauren Hunter
Derrick was just an ordinarily businessman living a normal life that is until Annie came along. When Annie came into Derrick's life everything change. Annie is a store clerk and a very good one at least Derrick thinks so and when he says something about it to her. Then that night he has a dream about Annie and what he doesn't realize is that he changed everything! Since Derrick changed Annie's life alot by changing her to what he wants her to be he hasnt ch...more

As I started reading I wondered what was going to happen. I was a little confused at first because I did not know where the story was going to start and who the main characters were. But after I was introduced to the main characters, very creatively, I got the feeling that this book was going to be a funny one.
As I read more I started to get to know the characters. Derrick, to me, is the type of guy who in high school, did not know how to talk to a girl he likes. And every time he opens his mout...more

The story alternates between what seems to be reality, dreams and dreams within dreams. After experiencing a romantic relationship of five months in a dream one evening, with Annie Maddock - a girl he has never met before, Derrick Sloane is cruelly awakened by the ringing phone. But imagine his surprise when he really meets Annie at The Coffee Shop: just as he had in the dream.

Derrick Sloane was one of the richest men in the country, if not the world, and yet he couldn't make a decent cup of coffee to save his life even with buying a top of the line machine. He needed coffee to start his morning and his limo driver knew where to take him to a coffee house that pleased him. They took off down the street, but a truck had lost its load and the street was blocked. Derrick was nothing without his coffee and asked Lawrence to take him anywhere that he could get coffee.

A very cleverly told tale of boy meets girl with a supernatural twist.
Derrick meets Annie when he visits a different coffee shop to usual. They get on like a house on fire but .........it's all a dream.
On waking, he leaves his apartment and due to a traffic problem he visits the coffee shop he dreamt of last night and his dream comes to pass....and that's when things start to get really interesting.

Let me tell you, I have not lost this much sleep due to an AWESOME book since I read the Twilight Saga. Lauren Hunter's time-travel romance, The Coffee Shop, was so enchanting and captivating that I could not put it down. Literally. I even put my own writing aside, because I needed to know what was going to happen to Derrick and Annie next. From the moment Derrick met Annie at The Coffee Shop until he brought her there again, I was enthralled with their relationship....and baffled by it.

Derrick had a great life. He was wealthy, good looking, a best friend, and a great place to live. So what was missing. As derrick gets in his car, his driver lets him know a truck has turned over in the road and they would have to go a different way. He decides he wants coffee. So on the alternate route he sees a local coffee shop. He opens the door and a man walks into him, spilling coffee all over himself and walks by Derrick and almost gets hit by a car. Lauren does a dazzling job of merging romance, hope, fear, and consequence all within the book, 'The Coffee Shop'. It is the pivotal moment in Derrick's existence and his relationship with the woman of his heart. The unexpected twist and turns, the life altering decisions, all work together to keep the reader wondering what will happen next. There is playful banter, loving kindness, and a melding of friendship which creates a vibrant chemistry between not only the pair, but those around them.

While I would call this a time travel romance, it's really not. More like a repeating dream of a future romance (read the book's blurb for a better description!)
What I really enjoyed was that every action by the main character caused a ripple effect to happen to future events. He kept trying to go back and change what he saw as bad things from happening in the future. Some of this was pretty mundane and very frustrating. I found the dialogue to be very awkward. When people first meet the conversations can be somewhat forced, but at halfway through the book I would have expected the characters to have gradually become more comfortable with each other. As another reviewer stated, the first half of the book is very slow, I made myself read waiting for it to get better, and in the second half it did develope some sort of plot. If the dialogue between the characters were not so uncomfortable, I probably would have en...more
The Coffee Shop is an intriguing paranormal romance book and like nothing I have ever read before: no weres, vamps, or things that go bump in the night! The concept is so very clever; it was most definitely a read that I just had to get to the end as quickly as possible.
The two characters, Derrick and Annie, are highly likeable characters. It was refreshing to follow the male protagonist in particular and to be able to emphasise with his feelings, his passion and to understand his psyche. There...more

What if you kept re-living your life all over again where certain minute actions changed the outcomes of what you'd previously lived before? Derrick Sloane was experiencing exactly that and spent his time desperately trying to fix the little things that have gone wrong along the way in hopes of making things better. Yet he fails to realize that by changing those things, he ends up changing a whole lot more than he bargained for.

What if you were absolutely certain you have met your soul mate, then found out it was all a dream? It all felt real enough for Derrik Sloan, but was it? Can you change your fate in just a sentence? Annie has no clue what is going on, but Derrik is getting more and more confused as time goes on. This book is so amazing to begin with, then it takes twists and turns that you never see coming. I couldn't stop myself from reading it well into the morning hours. You HAVE to read this to understand it...more
I had some mixed emotions and opinions about this book. Although the concept, story and idea of the book was such a keen one; I didn't like the delivery of it. The idea = fabulous. The story = sweet, bent, twisted, surprising and confusing in some spots. The concept = GENIOUS! I felt like I was reading a tennis match per se'. The "questions & questioning" got way out of hand in the book. I actually got frustrated reading question after question. I really had high expectations of this book wh...more
Lauren Hunter has certainly had a big job with this book. She has cleverly woven dreams, within dreams, within reality and a aspects of Time travel if you may call it throughout this story. Read the blurb to find out more about the storyline.

Derrick is a handsome, smart mouthed, romantic guy and friend. So reading about him was a blast and very much enjoyable. Though I found the book itself to be a little difficult to follow. When Derrick 'dreams' or 'wakes up' or whatever it is he's doing I felt like I was watching an episode from Dallas. I was just as pissed off about the dream sequence in that as I was in this book.

Aww, what a love story...of the weird kind...just the way I like it.
The only predictable things in this story is Derrick's love for Annie and that things are going to change.
I liked it plain and simple. This is the kind of story that makes you wonder "what would I do". I didn't get bored and I didn't want to put the book down either, time just flew by and it is just a good clean story with many twists along the way.

"Groundhog Day" meets "Sliding Doors," only more unpredictable! The plot fully delivers on the the fascinating premise. This one kept me guessing (and racing) to the last page. Likable characters and memorable settings. With no love scenes or cuss words, this romantic tale of alternate timelines is suitable for young adults.
This is a sweet and funny romance. With a male point-of-view, this story offers a unique and refreshing twist on a romance.
The story is told mostly through dialogue, which can be tricky. For the most part, the dialogue was done really well. The banter was witty, the flow was smooth, and the language used was very natural. It seemed like dialogue that you would overhear in the real world. I won this book in a giveaway and received a copy from the author. The Coffee Shop was definitely a tear jerker in some spots. After Derrick's 2nd or 3rd dream I was super happy that the book hadn't ended. But the ending was definitely not what I had expected! This is a great read and I can't wait to see what Lauren comes out with next :) I would recommend this book everyone that needs a good reason to be thankful for the people that they have in their life! Truly a great book :)
I am feeling speechless. Half the book was so enjoyable and easy going about a man and a woman who simply met and just as simple, fell in love. The reader watches them through their clever dialogues and you know they are two smart people deserving of each other so much. And then it happens. Things are going upside down - inside out. And then I thought "oh my God, what a brilliant idea this writer had". I can not reveal more because I don' t want to to spoil the plot. Just unbelievable.. I 'm sho...more
