I've never read Austen's Northanger Abbey, so I can't tell you if this is a faithful representation, or comment on how Butler has adapted the story and characters. What I can tell you is that this is a compelling, humorous, delightfully illustrated graphic novel filled with romantic intrigue, larger than life characters, and witty banter galore.

At 17, Catherine Morland makes her first foray into society by accompanying a family friend to the spas at Bath. There, she befriends two families: the...more

A good, short read. I read it during study breaks. I actually really enjoyed the illustration style and the dialogue. I really like this graphic novel version and the 2007 ITV movie. I find Catherine to be a very relatable character, as I read a lot of novels and I find myself daydreaming of them often. I really need to read the original Jane Austen book when I have the time. Pride and Prejudice is definitely one of my favorite books of all-time and it's one of my life goals to read all the Aust...more

Je n'a...more

I really enjoy these graphic adaptations by Nancy Butler. They make classic novels accessible to some teens who would never consider picking them up otherwise. This is the third Austin she's done and each is just a bit different in style or tone. In spite of that intense cover, the story is a bit lighter without as many twists and turns as "Pride and Prejudice" or "Sense and Sensibility". Still, it was a fun read.

I can't believe I never read this one before. I didn't enjoy it as much as P&P, Emma or S&S, but I think that is just because the main character wasn't as sharp. Still enjoyable, love the writing style and the dialogue between characters. I shouldn't be so harsh on Miss Morland... I think it's because I related too closely with her naivete and imagination.

I'm so happy I found a graphic novel version of this book! When I tried reading it a year ago I lost interest before I got halfway through; this was quick to read and I could keep the characters straight by the illustrations.

2nd favorite after Pride and Predjudice....(not scary like Sense and Sensibility..what was up with those faces?!)

Delightful! I'm reminded of all the reasons why Northanger Abbey is my favorite Austen novel.

Thank goodness for comic books. Sometimes, that's the best way to enjoy Jane Austen.

It was ok. I am more of a sci fi geek, but I didn't hate it.

I think this was a good choice with my first graphic novel. I can't wait to get the rest of them.

This cover is awesome.

It got extremely annoying, but it kept a good plot. Catherine kept calling herself a heroine, and I couldn't disagree more.

Great adaptation. I always enjoy the JA graphic novels.

Nancy Butler also writes under her real name, Nancy J. Hajeski.

Nancy Butler has been an Anglophile since she was nineteen, when she traveled to England to see Carnaby Street. (“I blame it on the Beatles!”) Her frequent visits to an American friend living in London have furnished her with enough inspiration to keep writing Regencies well into the new millennium.
