Amber's Muse is a short erotica story. I was able to finish this pretty quickly. I enjoyed the story and thought the love scenes were very steamy and well written. I was intrigued by the premise of the story. I have always wondered how authors can write such great love scenes. I really liked the chemistry between Jax and Amber. Amber was having a difficult time launching her career as an erotic novelist off the ground. She didn’t have the experience necessary to write a believably hot sex scene. Oh. she’d had sex, just not “scream the paint off the walls” really good sex. She needed to do some hands on research, and who better than her neighbor, Jax. Jax had made it more than clear he was interested, and she probably would have considered his suit if he wasn’t broke and struggling to make ends meet all the time.

This book was an impulse buy. I had been following the author for a few months on FB and seen her post updates to the status of her book coming out. She looked like she was promising, and she wrote erotic romance. This story reads like the sex was written first, then a plot was added to it to make it "legit".

Other than a few semi-hot scenes, I didn't connect with the characters in any way. Granted, it's hard to form a bond with a character in a short story like this, but there wasn't even a spark. Maybe this would read differently if the story was fleshed out and we got more character backgrounds and got to see a little bit more under their skin. Only complaint, story not long enough.I was just getting into Amber and Jax's story and then it seemed like it was over. I loved him going to the library at the last minute to see her, I mean to use the computer ;-) Their exchanges were hot and left me wanting more.

Probably more 3.5 stars.

It was a good, short read, though I found the writing a little formal at the start. It does flow better as the story continues.
