One mistake changes everything…

In the middle of a rainy Swedish summer, a little girl is abducted from a crowded train. Despite hundreds of potential witnesses, no one noticed when the girl was taken. Her distraught mother was left behind at the previous station in what seemed to be a coincidence. The train crew was alerted and kept a watchful eye on the sleep

This suspense novel was an excellent combination of a police procedural and psychological thriller – and the most enjoyable Swedish crime novel I’ve read since the Stieg Larsson Millennium series.

The story is written with multiple viewpoints, three of which are the main detectives; but, also another point of view includes a woman coconspirator of the perpetrator, which was an interesting departure from the conventional crime novel. The reader has access into the twisted mind of the criminal (onl
I always have a hard time getting into books that take place in other countries - this one is in Sweden - because of the weird names and places that I'm not familiar with and the same was true with this one BUT holy cow, it drew me in and wow. Great murder mystery.

This story starts with a little girl, Lilian, being abducted from a train on a summer day in Sweden. A futile race to find the little girl is stalled when she's found dead in the parking lot of a hospital with the words UNWANTED writte
The storyline beginning with the abduction of little Lillian off a crowded train really drew me in, but my interest kind of petered out when it turned to the investigative part of the story. Didn't much care for the character's, their interaction or their modus operandi. Oh well...

Overall, a decent debut, but doubt I'll read others in the series.

U poznatoj nam bajci Pepeljuga pronađe svoga princa s kojim će živjeti sretno do kraja života. Ovo nije bajka a On nije princ.

How quickly do we think we have someone all figured out? How does this deduction affect our behavior? What are we missing from life based on these quick assessments? Unwanted features young children kidnapped from their parents only later to turn up dead in meaningful places with the word unwanted written on their foreheads. A competent detective team consisting of grizzled veteran, the bull in a china shop overachiever, and the contemplative thinker begin digging into the sparse clues to uncove ...more

There were a lot of mixed reviews about this book and I can understand why. This being a more procedural criminal mystery, anyone who does not enjoy the TV film Criminal Minds, will mostly likely not enjoy the process of this fashioned novel. I love watching Criminal Minds so this novel was fantastic for my tastes. However, I was very disappointed when I found out who the killer was. Some of us readers enjoy the suspense of guessing who a killer might be throughout the story. In a thriller movie
An all new set of characters in this police procedural from Sweden. The observant inspector, a woman who serves as an investigative analyst, and the young male detective who resents her. Each character gives us just enough of their lives to keep them interesting, with Fredrika, the analyst, at the center of the novel.

Well written from 4 points of view, that of the 3 police and the bland-faced culprit with no fingerprints whose victims call him The Man. These are real people, but a bit dry, perha
This is a Scandinavian mystery, and I've been reading these on and off when I hear about another title that is supposed to be good. While I did like this and thought it had excellent writing and good characterization, I could not believe how slow the detectives were to figure out the motive for the crimes!

Let me back up a bit...the story is about a young girl who disappears from a train and is later discovered murdered with the word "Unwanted" written on her. It turns out this is just the first
Is there anything worse than the abduction and murder of a child? For a parent, of course, it's the worse nightmare.

In this debut novel by Kristina Ohlsson (just published in the US, but published in Sweden in 2009), this subject is explored, often in grisly detail. Perhaps because crime is low, reading about really gory crime is more fascinating to Swedes? However, despite the fascination with the dark side, the writing has been pretty much uniformly good. Kristina Ohlsson is no exception. She
Unwanted is a debut novel, and the first of a series of Swedish crime novels to be translated into English.

I wasn’t sure that I wanted to start on another series, but when the book appeared on the library it caught my eye. The cover was stgriking, the plot looked promising, and the comparison to ‘The Killing’ made a change from the usual Steig Larsson mention on the cover of pretty much anything Scandinavian.

And I knew that if I didn’t grab it while it was there I might not see it again for mont

This was a new author to me in the Nordic crime noir and this is book 1 in the (Fredrika Bergman and Alex Recht, book 1) series. Set in Stockhom, Sweden it starts out when a little girl travelling with her mother by train disappears from the train. The investigation focuses on the estranged father but the deeper the team digs the more involved the case becomes. The team discovers that this little girl isn't the only one to have disappeared. This was a really intense story and I will definitely b
Baš onako kako volim :) Neizvjesno do kraja :)

This is the first book in a Scandinavian mystery/thriller series by Kristina Ohlsson.

This is a new series for me, and WOW, what fantastic way to start a new series. This is a police procedural that is set in Stockholm, Sweden. And I am intrigued by all the characters.

This is a very dark tale involving children being kidnapped and later killed and the who and why of this story is extremely difficult to figure out.

I read this book in only a couple of days I just really had a difficult time putting

I greatly enjoyed this first story by this author and I'll certainly be sticking with the series. I liked Fredrika though she can be a little odd, despised Peder most of the time and wasn't sure Alex was the supercop he thought he was but over all they worked well as a group together as they all brought something to the table as such.
It was a clever story and you'd think you figured a lot of stuff out only to realise you hadn't.......and that sentence brings me to a gripe I have with it. America
I thoroughly enjoyed this debut crime novel by Ohlsson and hope it will be
the first of many. What I particularly enjoyed was the pacing of the
investigation which made me feel as a reader utterly involved- a true sense that
you were solving the crime at the same time as the detectives with no unfeasible
leaps in the plot or twists and turns for the sake of it. We all knew that Sara
was concealing something in the murky recesses of her past but what was it and
how did it connect to the killer? I liked

'Unwanted' by Kristina Ohlsson is a police procedural/mystery/suspense novel that is the first published in America by this author.

Ohlsson's background is an impressive reminder of the expertise in crime and investigation which she brings to her work. She is a counter-terrorism officer in Vienna and a former security policy analyst for the Swedish police.

But impressive background notwithstanding, this novel is much more than a police procedural story. It is a dark, sometimes gloomy, character st

Unwanted is a superbly written detective story. It is an excellent combination of a police procedural and a psychological thriller.

Inspector Alex Recht and his special team of federal investigators, assisted by the investigative analyst Fredrika Bergman, are assigned to investigate the abduction of a little girl from a crowded train in front of hundreds of potential witnesses. To the veteran detectives it appears to be a classic custody fight. But to Fredrika there are too many odd coincidences
Translated from Swedish, this police procedural mystery novel is a solidly entertaining one. And though a few of the plot’s turns are quite predictable (the commonalities between certain characters, for example), Ohlsson still manages to mix in some genuine surprises. Either way, the plot moves quickly and it’s definitely an entertaining story. The characters - though a bit slow on the uptake at times - are likable and sympathetic. Their personal lives round out the entire story, adding a fuller ...more
PROTAGONIST: Fredrika Bergman, investigative analyst
SETTING: Stockholm, Sweden
SERIES: #1 of 3
WHY: When a young girl is abducted from a train on the way to Stockholm, the police assume that a custody battle is to blame. The police team has 2 male members who have very successfully relied on intuition to solve cases. Their newest member, a civilian named Fredrika Bergman, instead is very analytical. She doesn't fit in at all. When more children are taken and murdered, Fredrika's approac

Great mystery read. The fist in a new series. I'm going to have to read the rest of them now. Good writer too!
I got into this book very quickly and enjoyed every bit of it. One of the aspects I liked was that the detectives seemed as if they were more human and didn't solve the mystery too quick. more of Kristina Ohlsson please

After reading this book, I wonder why I am so obsessed with reading mysteries and thrillers. I especially like books by a female author witha female protagonist. But why mysteries? I think the genre satisfies a need for rules and creativity constarined within a tight framework. And of course the suspense keep one reading. Right now I am on a Nordic crime binge. I am reading Swedish and Norwegian thrillers. I started with the great Henning Mankell and am now turning to many lesser known writers. ...more

Now, perhaps I've been spending too much time with my boyfriend, FBI Special Agent Dr. Spencer Reid (aka, watching Criminal Minds), but I had the motivation behind this mystery solved way, way before any of the detectives in this novel did. In fact, it's not incredibly hard to determine from the description alone.

This is the second book I've read in this series by Kristina Ohlsson, the first being The Disappeared, which was slightly less predictable in plot. They've both been very readable and e

Unwanted, Kristina Ohlsson's first book in her Swedish mystery series is the best of the three I've read. In this novel she introduces the characters that will be developed even more fully in the subsequent books.

The story begins with the abduction of a child on a train. The child's mother had stepped off the train to make a phone call and ended up helping a woman with a sick dog. Helping the woman caused her to miss the train. When she finally caught up with it, her child was missing. No one sa
Good first novel in the series, the three main detectives are an interesting group. They also don't appear to get on, but as the story progresses what is perceived as weakness is actually a strength.
