I read both Decadent and Wicked Ties IN ONE NIGHT! I loved them both. I liked this book just as much as the first. I know not everyone feels that way, but I do.

I loved Deke. I have heard that his brooding behavior drove people nuts... but not me ;) This book has so much angst and drama that it sucked me in right from the start and didnt let go. If you’re looking for a book with lots of hot 3 way lovin’, but don’t need a really believable or compelling storyline, this might be the book for you.

I’m just going to get this off my chest, right up front - there’s this bothersome thing about Shayla Black’s heroes. They all seem to have some kind of horrible secret which in my opinion aren’t really all that horrible. At least, not to the degree that these men, these rough, take no prisoners, alpha male type men, are affected by them. I think that’s why I seem to like them better before they get their own book. I adored Deke in Wicked Ties and but not so much in Decadent The reason why is simple; because in Wicked Ties we see only the man on the surface, and then when reading Decadent and we get down to the nitty gritty, he was just a jackass, plain and simple. I didn’t buy into his torment, so I was unable to forgive his callous behavior. His inability to have sex without his cousin there because of some deep, dark secret from his past was compelling, until we learn what said deep, dark secret was. Then it was just lame.

And the storyline in general is just weak. The author would have had something more believable if Kimber had just decided she wanted to give ménage a try, but the idea that she wanted to impress Jesse, a famous rock star who was into ménage and who is the most unimpressive character I’ve seen in a long time, so she goes to Deke for some lessons in 3-way was… yeah, that didn’t work so much for me. And add to that the notion that she wanted to learn all there was to learn about sex with 2 men but do and remain a virgin too? **rolls eyes**

The highpoint of the story for me, and what kept me reading, was Luc. He obviously cared deeply about his cousin, while trying to live with his own problem – sterility caused by a high fever when he was a child. He tried over and over again to create a situation which would be win-win-win. Deke would have someone to love, and someone to love him while never having to be alone during sex; Luc would be part of a family and hopefully, if Kimber got pregnant by Deke, Luc would be able to help raise a child that was at least part his through blood; and finally, Kimber would have two men to love her. I felt Luc’s emotional pain, his fear of never having his own family and his near desperation to find a solution for everyone.

I can’t even say that the sex was hot because Deke made each encounter so awkward and uncomfortable with his surliness that I don’t know why Kimber and Luc didn’t kick his a$$ out and carry on alone… oh wait, they did. Anyway, it’s because of my fondness for Luc that I’m giving this book 3 stars.

So Kimber goes to Deke (whom she has known since she was a teenager…he worked with her father for a while) and his cousin, Luc, who are well-known for their love of ménage. She wants them to teach her how to do it without losing her virginity (which she is saving for marriage with Jesse). Why? She wants to learn ménage so Jesse won’t think she is sexually boring and lose interest in her. Deke and Luc reluctantly agreed (mostly to keep her from going to some of the rougher ménage guys in the community). And that’s when things get realllllly messy emotionally for all three of them.

What did I like about this novel?

1.) The cover is SMOKING! Have you looked at it closely? The guy is propping himself up with his arms so you know he’s on a down-stroke. Is that hot or what? *wicked grin*
2.) Luc. Okay, everyone at Goodreads knows by now I fell totally in love with Luc. Why? He’s a great lover, he’s got a gorgeous bod, compassionate heart, excellent people skills, successful career, he’s a really sweet guy, and he has long silky black hair. Need I say more?
3.) I also liked Kimber as the heroine.
4.) Wonderful HEA ending for Kimber and Deke. Not for Luc, but then if he got a HEA in this novel he wouldn’t be getting his own novel in 2010, would he?
5.) Menage. I much prefer reading about it than BD/SM (as in the first novel in this series, “Wicked Ties”).

What did I not like about this novel?

1.) How about 341 pages of heart-wrenching angst? Black majors in uber-Alphas who are emotional basket-cases. Not my thing.
2.) Black also uses excessive padding in her novels. Every scene is padded with paragraph after paragraph and page after page of rambling thoughts and angst. The same thoughts, fears, and worries over and over again. Really kills the pace of the plot for me, so I start skimming, and I have done a lot of that in both her novels. Like I said, padding is not my thing.

Still, you know what? This novel is going on my keeper shelf for the smoking cover and for Luc. I know. I’m sooooo easy. *naughty smile*

What the hell happened? Deke was such a sweetheart in Wicked Ties! But I get why he keeps pushing Kimber away.

4.5. Another very good book. Hot, hot, hot.

I did not like this one as much as her first book "Wicked Ties" and I can't really pinpoint why. Maybe because Deke is just a little over the top screwed up. Like he denied things till the last 50 pages of the book really. We all have bad things happen in our lives, he just couldn't seem to move on from them.

This is a m-f-m menage book, and it's very hot. I have no complaints about the sex scenes - some very wow impressive. The book is well written, and I couldn't put it down. With Decadent , Shayla Black once again demonstrates how erotica can also be good literature. Deke Trenton is really a deep character. He's haunted by a ghost and that ghost has determined his behavior with women since he was a teenager. At first glance, you think Deke is a major-league alpha male, while his cousin, Luc, is the ultimate beta. If you come away with that opinion, read the book again. Deke does display all the traits of an alpha male, except that of leadership. He doesn't lead, he follows. And the revelation about his past and the reasons for his uncharacteristic behavior only adds to his depth.

Meanwhile, our heroine, Kimber Edgington, shows tremendous growth in her character as the plot unfolds. The fact that she's drawn to Deke's caustic personality rather than Luc's gentleness is a reflection of the type of men she grew up around (father and brothers are all strong alpha types). What is puzzling is why she ever thought she wanted to be with a falsetto-singing wimp rock star...

After the second reading, I have a much greater appreciation for the characters' motivations and their actions. Despite heavy dom/sub and menage a trois (M/F/M) sex throughout the book, the depth of the relationship between Deke and Kimber tugs at the heartstrings. She is understanding, but not a doormat for his verbal abuse. He is self-loathing, but willing to rethink how his past colors his world when his cousin, Luc, finally knocks him upside the head. I always find external influences far more credible than sudden self-awareness and epiphanies.

I can't wait for Luc's story (Delicious) which is due out in Spring 2009. Once again, Black has demonstrated that you can have all the sex that defines erotica and tell a good story.

If you enjoy this book and you haven't read Wicked Ties, that should be next on your TBR list.

What I liked about this book:
The chemistry between Kimber and Deke and their eventual love. How Deke always loved her but knew it was better not to be involved with her in the past. I feel wet reading this book. It's just hot! Voraciously and animalistic hot. I can't find a page in this book where I can't help but dampen myself. If I complained just how full of sex Fifty Shades is, never will I in this one. But unlike other books that are just bombarded with sex, Shayla Black was able to put emotions with this book. Deke is really sweet and such a gentleman. Though most of the time I'd get disappointed with a softy guy, perhaps Deke is the only 'softy' that is really rough.

[Beware: Grotesque Imagery!]

One in front and one at the rear, I painfully waited for this kind of scene to come! I was happy that the two male characters finally both made their way in both her holes down below. With Luc in front and Deke on the backside. There's just one thing I'm disappointed in this book. And that is... they haven't really completed the art of ménage. And what did they lack? Two shafts, one hole. If you know what I mean. Because I've watched some triple X vids where 2 males put their shafts at the female's organ simultaneously together, it pained me that they never come to that part. The girl wasn't experienced so they will never come to that. And the reason why I feel this way is because it's my first ménage book. Sure, I've read some BDSM books with multiple partners but not a really romantic one involving just 2 or 3 males. To me, it doesn't matter where they simultaneously put both their shafts inside her- be it the crevice of her womanhood or the backside. But I prefer the former, two shafts in her central crevice alone. That would have been really really steamy.

Shayla Black really is the bitch in the art of ménage a trois. No offense meant to the author, it's a huge compliment. While for this kind of genre the author intends to give pleasure to the readers by pure sex, she never fails to give a substantial plot to her stories. There's always emotions involve and as a reader, you will always have to choose one man, and fall with the same dilemma of the female protagonist.

Of course, obviously the girl is for Deke. And Luc is for that stripper woman. I know that that woman is not a stripper but rather the owner of the club, but let's just stick with that. And I don't know if I'm going to like their book. In a normal romantic book, while I would feel thrilled with a second guy for a love triangle, I'd always be dismayed when the girl is with the other guy. But in this one, I would always welcome Luke inside the girl, just not through her heart.

Deke has difficulty dealing with the fact that Kimber is a virgin and thinks that in the heat of his passion he will end up taking her virginity when he had promised to have her remain a virgin for when she goes back to Jesse.

Kimber goes to Jesse and realizes that she no longer has romantic feelings for him and never could become a part of his lifestyle. Jesse wants her still and believes she can save him and make him change even though Kimber catches him having sex with a stranger and he says she was nothing to him.

Someone sets off a bomb in Kimber's dad's house and her dad is hospitalized. Kimber pulls him out of the fire. Deke thinks her life might be in danger and that the bomb may have been intended for her. Deke, Luck and Kimber go into hiding at Jack's cabin away from everything even though Kimber does not want to leave her dad in the hospital.

During their stay at the cabin the three of them explore their relationship and Kimber realizes she is in love with Deke. He realizes he loves her also. Kim no longer wants to be shared with Luc but Deke doesn't think he can have sex without another guy with him so he continues to want to share her with luc.

Eventually the copys thinks they have caught the bomber and they can come out of hising. They go back to Luc's house but Kimber no longer wants to share. Kimber then discovers she is pregnant. Luc is elated as he hoped this would happen as he is sterile from a childhood disease. Jack does not take the pregnancy well and treats kimber badly. She eventually goes back to her own apartment.

At her apartment someone breaks in and it is the bomber. Deke arrives to talk with Kimber and say the pregnancy is fine and he still loves her. He discovers the bomber and saves Kimber's life but she is in the hospital. When she is better he tells her he wants to try it with just the two of them. She finds out she was never pregnant and Deke realizes he is not relieved. He would like to have children with her.

I like this author. 5 stars(less)

The gist: Kimber wanted to learn about the three-way play that Jesse McCall is into. Jesse McCall is a childhood friend turned pop star sensation that Kimber has been in love with since forever. She’s 23, a virgin – because all this time, she saved herself for Jesse (gag). But first, she needed some education; that’s where Deke and his cousin, Luc comes in.

Deke has been lusting after Kimber since she was seventeen. So when Kimber walked in to Luc’s house asking for a jaw-dropping favor, it’d only make sense that he’d say, “f*ck, yeah!” But Deke saw all the wrongs that could happen if he did and gave Kimber an impromptu lesson right then and there along with some harsh words to remember the moment by. Long story short, Kimber ran off in search of another willing pair to give her the education she needed. Well, Deke would not stand for it. So he took her back and signed on as one of her teachers. These types of things are never easy and no one walks away scot-free. This has disaster written all over it.

The rant: Good golly, Miss Molly. Who saves their virginity for a guy whom you know is a skeeze and is into three-ways? Seriously, who does that? And in any case, how the hell do you expect to keep your virginity if you wanted a lesson in ménage? This book went past ridiculous. About 70% of this novel is sex – which, I didn’t mind but OMG, the sex was torture. Deke was always encumbered with self flagellation and overwhelming guilt afterwards. He was so intense before, during and after the act that I don't know how he could've possibly enjoyed it!

Reading this book is like watching porn: all sex, no plot (not that I'm an expert on porn, per se). The story line is weak at best, and the conflict is manufactured in a way that it felt more like a filler than anything else. There was a little made-up added suspense, which was in no way suspenseful but predictable to say the least.

VERDICT: I don’t get the appeal of ménages and I don’t think I ever will. I’m terminally selfish and am not very welcoming to the idea of sharing – especially in that sense (smirks). And this is why this book didn’t work for me. I skipped the sex scenes because honestly, I couldn’t stand it. Most of the time, I was grossed-out. But that's just me and my personal preference. I’m hoping the rest of the books in this series wouldn’t have such an adverse affect. Otherwise, the remaining four books that I have will remain unread in my shelves. (less)

Kimber is a virgin and in love with a pop star. At first I thought she was just delusional, but it turns out he is just as delusional as she is. I read Ms. Black's first book in this seris, Wicked Ties (review here), and I liked it, but it had some issues that were hard for me to get past. Kimber Edgington is a twenty-three (I think!) year old virgin. She's been saving herself for her long-distance boyfriend Jesse, who is a famous musician that's been on tour for several years. Kimber and Jesse met while Kimber's dad was doing bodyguard work for Jesse, then after an intense summer he went on tour but they stayed in touch. Kimber knows Jessie likes menage, and she wants to be taught the "tricks of the trade" so to speak, but she wants to remain a virgin for Jesse. She knows that one of her father's former employees, Deke Trenton, is into menage and she asks him to teach her.

Deke has known Kimber since she was a teenager, and he respects her father, his former employer. He turns her down at first, but his cousin Luc convinces him that if they don't teach her she'll find someone who will - and they may not be as gentle with her as Deke and Luc will. Deke reluctantly agrees and Kimber moves in.

I think you all know about how I get creeped out about people who are related by blood being in a menage together. I guess 2nd cousins don't count in my book because it didn't bother me as much as I thought it would. Deke and Luc are sexy, sexy men.

Deke had some weird hangup/terrible secret about not having sex with a virgin, but they worked around that. I did spend a good portion of the book trying to figure out how Deke killed someone during sex. I just knew that had to be his terrible secret - what else could it be? I mean, honestly, why else would he not want to have sex with a virgin unless he accidentally killed one? But, in the end that part of the storyline made sense. There was also another storyline going on with Kimber's dad and a stalker which made for some conflict (conflict here meaning more opportunities for Kimber and the guys to have sexytime *wiggles eyebrows*).

Well, I know this review is all over the place, but what I'm trying to say is that it was a fun, sexy read. I can't believe I'm writing this but there may have been a bit too much sex for me (I may have skimmed the sexy parts a time or two). I'm looking forward to her next book, Delicious - Luc's book.

I give Decadent 3 1/2 out of 5 stars. (less)

Well, I thoroughly enjoyed this book.

The beginning premise was a little far fetched for me so I would probably give it 3.75 stars just because it was a little hard to believe the reasoning behind why she sought out Deke and his Cousin Luc but the rest of the story was really quite good once I decided not to let that bother me.

I liked Wicked Ties. I thought the characters were interesting, the plot was interesting, and I could make myself go along with how the story unfolded. I even thought Deke was a good character in that book. Decadent, on the other hand, has horrible writing, the plot is ridiculous, and the entire book is borderline comical. I almost didn't read this book as i wasn't 100% sold on Wicked Ties. I did however love this book, thanks to a complete change in writing style from the first. Ok the storyline had it's flaws but it was fun and i really enjoyed it.

That wasn't bad, but it wasn't good enough as well.

I have to admit the sex was hot but I the big secret and Deke's major hang up wasn't exactly major to me. I didn't like how he treated Kimber, even when he made it up to her in the end. He's too hung up, has a lot of emotional baggage and he's an ass, didn't really appreciate him.

Everyone likes this but me... Oh well. Here's my issue: the heroine is TSTL in every way!

Review:

Okay, so where to start?! This book definitely lived up to it’s expectations. Now while Wicked Ties in my book (love Jack) was much more to my liking, Decadent didn’t fail to disappoint. My only hang up in this book was the heroine Kimber. At first, I just didn’t get the whole “I’m in love with a guy who lives the menage lifestyle and so I need some training in the menage lifestyle so I can show the guy I am in love with that we are meant to be together.” The man she is supposedly in love with is Jesse, a rock star, and her relationship with Jesse is best characterized as pen pals. This just struck me as odd and while I kept an open mind about this situation to get into the book, I feel as though it was so the wrong message.

Kimber and Deke of course have chemistry, which they both try to fight, from the start. Luc isn’t too shabby either. *grins* There is quite a backstory with Deke and Kimber where he was infatuated with her as an teen and had to eventually push her away due to that fact and the fact that her father was his boss! Well now…Kimber is a grown woman and Deke, still fighting his attraction is basically talked into doing the ménage with her for one week of “training” by his cousin, Luc.

If this setup isn’t bad enough, Kimber is a VIRGIN and she wants to maintain her virginity for her rocker boyfriend who is into menages. So while Deke chooses to fulfill her favor of being introduced to the menage lifestyle, he must do it without breaking the hymenal barrier. *falls off the couch laughing at that thought*

As an aside, it’s really special that in this threesome, one of the guys is dark and one is tawny haired. I think that there must be some rule that threesomes involve two different looking guys – one light and one dark. Maybe a guy’s fantasy is that the two women look the same – you know, like twins – but women’s fantasies are way evolved and include two DIFFERENT looking guys.

The ending of the book will of course knock your socks off and as always Ms. Black does NOT disappoint with the action and mystery involved in this book.

Out of it all, would have to give this 4 out of 5 stars for a good read.

Oh, boy. I had such high hopes for Deke. I fell a little bit in lust with him in book 1, Wicked Ties , he was all kinds of hot and perfect all wrapped up in this huge hot guy body. His attitude and treatment of Kimber, all for some misguided sense of guilt, ruined him and his story for me. Even if I break it down and try to focus on the few positives with him, I still can’t look past all the pain he caused her emotionally.

Now, Luc on the other hand…LOVED HIM! I really hope that doesn’t change when it comes to his book…lord I hope it doesn’t. He was such a kind, gentle and compassionate lover. He radiates this huge love that he is desperate to give. Seriously, how can you NOT love this man? He immediately put others and their feelings in front of his own. And…hello! Stamina! I was in lusty heaven after his 6 hour marathon fuck-fest! When his reason for loving ménage came to light, I really didn’t fault him for keeping it a secret. This man, so full of love just ready to give away, is in such obvious pain over his issues. Shame might be a little of the reason, embarrassment…maybe…either way my heart broke a little for him. Where Deke unfortunately brought this book down for me, Luc built it back up little by little. I have HIGH high hopes for his book!

Kimber, how perfect of a heroine is she. So ready to give her full trust, innocent but not sheltered to the point of blindness, eager to please and try new things, feisty when needed and not afraid to speak her mind or stand her ground. Not only was she strong minded but she had backbone. Not going to be able to walk all over her, nope…not going to happen! I don’t think there was a second that I didn’t love this chick.

Once again, my feelings for Deke aside, the writing flowed brilliantly, the story was easy to follow and keeps you engaged. The characters, most of them at least lol, are easy to love and want to read about. This book was heavier on the sexy sexy, but still had the perfect amount of story line. I love this series and can’t wait to see what, and who, happens next!

I find this book highly amusing at the first half, a little bit irriating in the middle, and very sweet & romantic in the end.

I thought it was 50 shades fan fiction - except of course it was written four years prior. Maybe both authors took the same online course on how to write erotic novels. Result is the same.
