I rather wish I'd waited to read The Other Life until the second book was out. Or maybe I wish so many books weren't stretched out into a series. This novel just felt a bit insubstantial to me since it's fairly short and the contents could definitely have been a bit meatier. The promise of it is there, but just as things begin to get interesting, the story ends and you'll have to wait a year or so for the next one.

Well, it would have to go and end like that...
You see, this book was incredibly hard to rate because I spent the entire thing bitching and moaning about the lack of plot and originality, the boring characters and how I couldn't wait for it to end... then the ending had to be all super interesting and leave us with the most exciting piece of info in the entire novel, didn't it?
The ending would have been perfect if I'd enjoyed anything else, it's not quite what you'd call a cliffhanger but it ope More...

Such a lovely read! There were so many things I loved about this story that I don't even know with what to start.

There is this big gap between this life and the other life.
This life is one of hiding, of trying to survive, of fighting monsters, of not knowing if tomorrow will ever come for you, not knowing if your family will be safe, if you'll be able to keep them alive. This is a life full of death.

I've always been a fan of zombies. Not that I'd loved them if they become real but I just like the thrill, excitement and nervousness they can make me feel. I've seen lots of zombie-themed movies and read some mangas of it. But I haven't really read any novel about it, I realized just after I finished reading this book (and I really wonder why I never thought of reading one. Hmm~). So basically, this is my first 'zombie' themed book and it went really well. Hurrah! It was good and I li More...

3 years, 1 month, 1 week and 6 days since I’d seen daylight. One-fifth of my life.
The story was about Sherry and her family, who were living in a bunker to avoid being infected with rabies. The whole city was in a dreadful plight. They can make no communication with their neighbors. One day, Sherry left the bunker with her father to look for food. And there were the Weepers, who were once human but infected with rabies and undergone mutation.

I am starting to get the feeling that if you’ve read one post-apoc YA book then you’ve likely read them all. In this one it’s a couple of years after the world’s been ravaged by a rabies-like virus and we see people holed up in bunkers because of infected zombie/cannibal like monsters. Circumstances lead her and her father out of their safe place into a place that barely resembles the place she used to call home.
I was expecting something more sinister. But things just progressed too conveniently More...

A copy of "The Weepers: The Other Life" was provided by the publishers via Netgalley.com
I’ll start off by saying that the copy provided by netgalley.com was only the first 160 pages of the novel rather than the whole copy, so I have no idea how this ends but I can’t wait for the book to be released to find out.

Two minutes ago their last can of food ran out. With her family starving, there is no question that she is going along when her father says he is venturing outside the shelter for the first time in three years.

3 years, 1 month, 1 week and 6 days since I’d seen daylight.
The first thought that came to mind after I read that line was how strikingly similar the voice was to Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi. The frantic counting of numbers, the idea of isolation – it all added to my presumption that young Sherry was another version of Shatter Me’s Juliette. Not a terrible thing, in my opinion, as I loved both Shatter Me and Juliette, but I do prefer it when my characters all leave different stamps on me. So I w More...

I don't know what it is that makes me giddy when I hear the word zombie. Maybe it's the promise of the action, suspense, the running for your life, and trying to survive, that usually go along with any good zombie tale. This story has Weepers, which may not technically be zombies, as I'm not sure if they're actually dead or not. At any rate, to me they're in the same category so: me=giddy!

Remember Will Smith in I Am Legend? Yeah, it's a lot like that.
Sherry and her family managed to live in their LA bunker for more than three years before they ran out of food. Their part of the country was ravaged by a new strain of rabies, one that only one in ten were immune to. The other nine? Well, if they were lucky, they died. But most turned into a rabid, intelligent version of a zombie (the infected actually remind me of those in I Am Legend).

Not gonna lie. I'd wet myself just thinking I More...

After being asked to review The Other Life by the publishers, I jumped at the chance because how awesome does it sound? Yep, it sounds awesome! After reading it, I generally did like the story.
Sherry and her family have been living in a sealed bunker ever since things went wrong in the world. The US Government told everyone there was a dangerous disease going around --Rabies, and it was infecting people. So until the situation was resolved Sherry and her family were to hide underground.

Imagen being stuck stuck in a bunker for 3 years 1 month, 1 week and 6 days in a deserted ghost town LA. Hiding from a deadly virus. Something that isn't so nice and could drive you crazy. Its not somewhere I would love to be but Susanne has made this story so insanely good I never wanted to leave. There are a lot of Dystopian novels coming out lately. Some I Like some I don't like and some I absolutely love like this one.

(2,5 stars);
I had to use a half star again. Because this isn't a 3 star book for me. But it still deserves more than 2 stars, because I did find some parts of it to be pretty enjoyable (so I guess it's somewhere between "it was ok" and "liked it");
I'll start with a really short resume of the plot; Sherry and her family have been living in a bunker for over 3 years (because of a rabies type of disease that's spreading through the country). But one day they run out of food, so Sherry and her Dad More...

Firstly, I'm removing it from the zombie shelf because I can't legitimately consider it a zombie novel. Weepers are not zombies. They're monsters that happen to be created by a virus, which just happens to be the way we generally think of zombies happening. This is more like if werewolves were caused by a virus. Rabies, to be specific.
That out of the way, it was a decent novel. It felt ridiculously short (in my ebook it was 190 pages, but on here it's well over 300) I feel like not a whole lot h More...

I’ve wanted to read this book for ages, so I was thrilled when I found out I had won a copy of The Weepers: The Other Life through a recent contest I had entered on the authors website. The author, Susanne Winnacker, was kind enough to personalize and autograph my copy for me. So I’m pretty stoked about that as well.

Well really this has all the things that I should love about a book.
*Dystopian setting.
*Zombies (who technically aren't zombies, but whatever, they are.)
*A potential kick ass female protagonist.
But it only managed two stars, and here are three reasons why.
1. I wanted more from the world. Granted it got there a little bit towards the end, but overall there are too many questions for me.
Why did the powers that be allow the radio's to work for 3 years? Only cutting them off 2 weeks previous to th More...

I can not express how much I love this book! How much I love dystopian books in general. I knew that once I started this book that I was a goner. There was no way I was going to put this book down.
So what did me fall in love with this book? The plot line. It is just filled with pure awesomeness that I was blinded by it. I loved that once I started this book, the reader is filled with what is happening with the world. Counting down time, the reader meets the family and see the struggles. I adored More...

Thanks to my really good friend Casey over at Dark Readers blog, she sent her ARC of The Other Life over so I could read it. I knew that if Casey was willing to mail a book to me across the planet, then this was a book I needed to read. Well The Other Life is great, pulls you in immediately as soon as you begin reading it. When a book I begin to read can play out in my head like a Hollywood blockbuster movie, then the book is WIN with me. I can totally see this whole book on the big screen. It w More...

I liked this book. I quickly read it in a few hours. The writing is easy to follow and the idea interesting. The post apocalyptic genre is one I've grown to love. The plot is intriguing and I think the author has the makings to be a great story teller. Even though I enjoyed the book, there were a few things that kept me from rating it higher.

It's been just over three years since Sherry and her family have been outside. In post-apocalyptic Los Angeles, they have holed up in a bomb shelter, relying on their provisions and a bike power generator to live on. Unfortunately, they discover the food has run out 2 years before predicted and they will starve to dead if they do nothing. The government told them to stay hidden until they are notified to leave, but they have heard no word yet. Sherry can't stand to see her family starve, so she More...

The Other Life was an extremely quick read. A little post apocalyptic should not be, I hear you cry? Perhaps. I'll warn you now, it uses the same concept as the Will Smith movie I Am Legend. Everything happened very quickly and I felt like there wasn't really a relationship or a reason behind the romance between Sherry and Joshua, rather, it was just there. However, despite all this, I enjoyed it a lot more than the Forest of Hands and Teeth and intend to continue when the next book is released. More...

This book wasn't bad for a freshman novel. The plot was 28 Days Later meets The Wolfman. The characters were good even if they were somewhat predictable. There were a few problems with this book that prevented it from being a better novel.
1. The book took place in Los Angeles, CA yet the author used British English. It might sound like a small thing but it pulls the reader out of the story especially during tense moments.
2. Generally homes in LA don't have basements so most people wouldn't be ab More...
