Really well researched with lots of great information. I really like the way everything was presented with great sidebars that supported rather than distracted from the main text. The thing I most appreciate about this book is the way opinions, insights and theories are laid out side by side as the narrative covers astronomical events within various historical and cultural contexts.

This book is dreadful for a number of reasons:

It is far too long and full of irrelevant incoherent personal beliefs of the author and therefore is not a detached appraisal of 2012 beliefs. It doesn't place 2012 beliefs in context by explaining how it is one of numerous such movements bubbling up over the last few thousand years.

The author is someone who for many years promoted the fabricated Dreamspell calendar - which was often passed off as the Mayan calendar. It was not, it was the invention...more

Good overview of the various theories about what will happen on December 21, 2012, the last day of the Mayan calendar which some people call "Doomsday." Some parts of this book were very interesting, such as the chapters about the Mayan calendar, crop circles, increasing amount of plasma in our atmosphere and solar system, and various topics related to astronomy. However, there were other parts that were so vague and New Age-y that I struggled to get through the chapters.

very comprehensive! Good for someone just getting into the subject, and surely adds to whatever you already know. Unexpected links to the shift within. Mark Heley is a good researcher, and i appreciate that he only includes things that are verifiable and uses studies that are scientifically performed

This guy was all over the grid. A lot of information. Much of it good about the Mayan Calendar etc. Got very esoteric in the later part of the book (and off subject, I might add).

An informative book on Mayan time cycles, astronomical paradigms, and other scientific topics related to the beliefs about Mayan beliefs. Good for the layman like me.
