This is everyone's story, not just Lilly Hunt's. Like Lilly, who hasn't endured peer pressure and fought low self-esteem? Who hasn't been angry over losses, and heartbroken at losing a loved one? Whose life hasn't been impacted with the scourge of an addiction? Who hasn't stumbled under the weight of forgiving someone? Or, harder yet, forgiving oneself? It isn't only Lilly ...more

Met the author at Costco and purchased this book not allowing her tell me about it,reading the blurbs or having any idea what type of book it was. (That's the way I roll- once a book is recommended or appeals to me in some way, I avoid knowing more about it until I have experienced it myself.)

I was not prepared for a book about the afterlife. The author is obviously LDS, as am I, but she never comes out and uses specifics: temples, sealings, eternal families, the Holy Ghost, etc, thus making it a

When I first picked up this book I really wasn't sure what to expect. I knew it was going to be about a teen girl named Lilly Hunt, but the amazing journey that the story takes us on is not only a look at the afterlife but also several life lessons including forgiveness and realizing what is actually important in our lives.

Lilly Hunt is turning 18. While growing up in the tiny town of Missoula Montana she often wondered if her own dad didn't love her well then who could? Her younger memories of

A Piece of Time is not what I was expecting - but so much more. Lilly is just your average teenager. She loves to dance and just earned a scholarship for college, which she is excited about. Her family and friends don't care for her boyfriend Alex - he has a reputation and uses drugs, but she loves him. Her nemesis is always namecalling and bullying, but she tries to rise above it.

Her mom has been dating Carl for awhile now since her dad is gone, but she despises him. She doesn't understand why

We have heard the stories of those on their death bed, crossing over the 'the other side',or 'going toward the light'. Whether that is something you take stock in, or not, this book is a great story of Lilly who does cross over for a time. She sees what heaven is like, sees her friends and family that have gone before her. She sees herself in the hospital bed, her mother and friend Luke praying for her to be healed. Feeling almost like she isn't fully ready to be in heaven, yet not really wantin ...more

Wow, I don't know what to say about this book. It can really affect you. I started out thinking this was just another book about teenagers and their drama and life troubles. But then it elevates into an amazing thought provoking spiritual experience. The main subject is forgiveness, and although that is something we all need to work on, this is not a boring text book or preachy in any way. But it was the best lesson on forgiveness I've ever received. The background of the author is so interestin ...more
I'm not sure how I feel about this book...some parts were interesting, some were kind of unbelievable, but who really knows what happens after death? Eating all you want without weight gain? That does sound like heaven, but I don't think that will happen! I've read several "return to life after death" books; this one is probably one of the least favorite among those I've read. I understand the author wrote it for troubled teens; it's does address some challenges faced by teens and some of the ex ...more

So Rand picked this up at Costco last week, and I wasn't very excited. It starts in a way that really turned me off, but because the library was closed Monday - I kept reading... It's actually a very interesting view of the afterlife... It is the first book I've read that actually reflects my own view that we truly create our own sense of heaven and hell... that love is the answer and that forgiveness is the key... I enjoyed the read after all - but not sure it's a book I'd recommend to everyone ...more

I read this book for my book club. I liked it and would have given it a 4 rating, but then Victoria, the author, came to our book club. Now I give it a 5. I look forward to re-reading this book and passing it along to others. If you've wondered about the afterlife, or struggled with forgiveness, or have just been drifting along in your life, this is a book for you. It is a novel, but there are truths within that will leave you thinking and could change your life.

Now this is a book that helped me to imagine the afterlife and the way things will be. I loved Lilly's travels there. I also truly got the message of forgiveness and love for all those who have hurt us or who we have hurt. Christ suffered so we don't have to.

Afterlife stories must not be my cup of tea. I found the main character annoying and the story predictable and cliché. There were also many punctuation errors that were distracting.
