A very good read of three views on the Civil War; this book is written through the eyes of Emily, a teen aged abolitionist who is living with her southern, slave holding relatives, Nat, a slave bent on running away, and Gideon, the second oldest of a family of southern 'dirt farmers'. I found this book had an interesting perspective on all sides of the war.

I was absolutely taken by this wonderful book! I read this story as a child and became completely enthralled in the Civil War from then on. I also enjoy the spiritual aspect of the story. The historical fiction through several different perspectives creates a wonderful scope for what people (and children as well) went through during this time period!
