I don't necessarily reach for YA but I DO enjoy vampire tales and I was interested in learning how contemporary writers are exploring the (supposed) myth, especially in the short story format. And I'm really glad I picked up this anthology!
There was a range of settings and eras, from possibly medieval times to a hopefully-this-will-never-happen future, which made for enjoyable shifts as I read along. Of course, I wasn't expecting to love them all, but I was pleasantly surprised to find I did *li...more

My short story "Allured" is part of this teen vampire anthology, so I may be a bit biased.
These stories run the gamut from an old fashioned feel (small village with a midwife) to dangerous streets teeming with vampires to a post-apocalyptic future. My story was the only to take place in a contemporary high school. The settings ranged from homes to farms to villages to forests to cities.
A few of my favorites (which all seem to be the later ones):

When we first invited submissions for Fangtales, we were as you can imagine - absolutely inundated!
I had specified 'traditional vampire tales only' - so - no sparkling in sunlight, or ignoring other rules of vampire folklore.
Quite a few authors ignored this and one even had an Edward Cullen in her story! Even so, the response was huge and
the quality of writing excellent. So it took longer than expected to select the very cream of the crop.

By day I design book covers for some of the biggest publishers in the UK . . . but once the sun sets I write paranormal romance and horror.
My debut vampire novel, Fledgling was published in September 2011, and I edited a vampire anthology called Fangtales, published in October 2011.
I enjoy rock music, all kinds of dance, and love cats, horses and the American desert. (And my husband and son of co...more
