The Teumessian Fox and the magical dog Lailaps?? Interesting.

Here's a little mythology for you: The Teumessian Fox was destined never to be caught; Lailaps was destined to catch his prey. The Fox was sent by the gods to terrorize the country side of Thebes as punishment for a crime. Lailaps was then sent to catch the Fox. As you can see, this would've been a never ending cycle. Which is why Zeus took pity on them and turned both creatures to stone.

I won an ARC of Hide & Seek from author Aimee Laine earlier this week and dug right in. It was my first time reading Laine and I honestly loved it! The writing hooked me from page one. She includes just enough mystery and intrigue to keep you eagerly turning the page and wondering what in the world is happening but doesn't push it over the edge to frustrating and confusing. I had to keep making myself put down my NOOK and actually get some work done around the house. Excellent problem, right?

Laelaps and the Teumessian fox. A magical dog who always catches it's prey and a fox destined to never be caught. Definitely a first in reading for me and a great twist to the idea of star-crossed lovers.The main characters, Lexi and Tripp, were both charming and entertaining. Each used their gifts/curse from Zeus in different ways. Lexi can find anything she's looking for just by thinking about the item and uses her talents in a completely honest, safe, and boring way finding people their dream homes. Tripp, on the other hand, can never be caught and tends to walk in the grey area doing item retrieval. The two are complete opposites and should never meet but one night the stars align, so to speak, and they're thrown into each other's lives, running into each other twice in 24 hours. There's an immediate attraction but they recognize who the other is, mythologically speaking, from nearly the start and know things will not be easy for them.

Tripp is determined to figure a way around their curse. He knows they should be together despite Lexi's doubts that things would never work for them as a couple because of their abilities. With his gift Tripp would be able to hide anything from Lexi and never be caught. Lexi just couldn't get over the idea of him potentially using his gifts against her and being unfaithful or crossing the line morally/legally in his work. This led to my big complaint. She's falling in love with him and it's obvious he adores her but she just can't get over her fears. After a while I wanted her to start trusting him and on more than one occasion wanted to yell "oh come on already Lexi!!". A minor complaint really but still got under my skin a bit. The two finally do decide to give things a try both on a business and professional level. Was definitely loving Tripp's gift of never getting caught and the way he used it with Lexi on a personal level. Things were very steamy between the two and he was far from shy with his choice of locations for said steamy moments. Whoa! He's good. Really, really, good.

I really enjoyed the additions to the story outside of the main couple. Tripp's best friend Ian especially. He's terrible in a fantastic way. He reminds me of that guy most groups have that's just a little pervy and always on the make but somehow manages to be endearing and cute. Plus he says things like "Praise-alujah" which may just be my favorite saying now. I so want more of him. And then there's Dulces. If a place like this exists I want to know. And I want to know now! It sounds heavenly and I wanted to jump into the book and try all of the foods right then and there.

If I hadn't already been won over the last 30 pages or so would have sealed the deal. I absolutely adored the ending. Guess it's the romantic in me but damn was it good! Overwhelmingly sweet and perfectly played out. Had me in tears and wishing like hell I had a Tripp of my own to catch. If I haven't mentioned it before he is just. so. good! I'm looking forward to reading more of this series and can't wait to see what happens next!

Hide and seek is a brilliantly written and sexy book. Lexi and Tripp are both two very gifted characters both have their own problems, Tripp is to marry a women his does not love while Lexi can’t find her true love so when they walk into each other’s life’s you would think it would be simply but it’s not. Zeus gave them the gifts and as a god he made shore that Tripp and Lexi are opposites made to be apart but the two of them have other ideas

Zeus, though, didn’t give Lexi and Tripp their talents to make their relationship a simple, easy alliance. He designed it to be exactly the opposite. Impossible. Always. Looking at the cover you must be thinking, "Damn, that guy is hot.", but when you read the book you will fall in love with the character, Tripp Fox. He thinks no one can catch him, until he meets his match. Lexi, a beautiful girl who captures his heart, but there's a problem. Tripp is going to marry Jill, a daddy's girl, with all the money she can get her hands on. And on top of that, Tripp and Lexi aren't supposed to be together. They have powers that were not ment to meet; not meant to bond.

I found myself being pulled into the story of Hide & Seek. Tripp and Lexi's relationship had me in awe. When they met something clicked and they couldn't seem to stay apart. I felt the ending was the MOST ROMANTIC scene I've ever read. If only a boy would go to such trouble for me. Tripp Fox, be mine?

I never thought it'd be so addictive. When I first saw the title, I wasn't quite sure what it'd be about. This is what went through my mind:

What?! Hide & Seek? A book about people going PEE-KA-BOO! Huh? This doesn't sound overly interesting?

But then I read the blurb:

Must. Find. Book.

I can't wait to see what the second book is about! Maybe new characters? Or maybe we can read more about the future of Tripp and Lexi! For now, I will have to check out Aimee's other novels. Make sure you do to! I recommend this for older readers who love a good romance.(less)

This book was a definite winner. Charming, snarky hero (with a bad boy 'live in the gray' edge) and sparkling best friend/business partner too. Steamy, did-it-just-get-hot-in-here romance. Add a hefty helping of fate throwing dirt in your eye.

Hide & Seek is the first book in the Games of Zeus series. This is more of a paranormal romance, as each book follows a different H/h (couple); but you can still learn about some of the characters in Silent Echoes in the first book.

For anyone that enjoys a mythology-tinged romance, then this is definitely the book for them. I really liked the concept of the story, but I'm not sure I liked the story itself. I felt there was a lot of potential and the writing was beautiful, but something was missing.

Tripp Fox and Lexi Shephard are the proverbial Fox and Hound (the mythological Teumessian Fox and Laelaps) who have abilities bestowed upon them by Zeus. Tripp is the fox that can't be caught, and Lexi is the dog that always catches her prey. They are each other's diametrically opposite match and due to the nature of their mutually excluding abilities they aren't ever meant to meet. However, by accident (or fate), they do meet and fall in love, and try to break the cycle.

I loved the mythology, but wish it was explored further in the book. Everyone took Lexi and Tripp's abilities as given, with mentions of Zeus every now and then, but the book never went into great detail. I would've loved to know why he granted these abilities and how the gifted are chosen, etc. All it really told you was that there were other people with the abilities and there was one older couple they met who managed to make the relationship work. Perhaps the next books in the series will reveal more.

I liked Tripp and Lexi as characters individually—both were strong-minded, driven, a little reckless and loyal to their friends and family. Where I struggled a bit was their romance. I didn't feel like they had a lot of chemistry, almost as if they convinced each other (or at least, Tripp kept badgering Lexi) to be together. They were constantly telling themselves they loved each other, but throughout the book, I wasn't that convinced.

The supporting cast was great, however. Ian, Tripp's best friend and Emma, Lexi's sister were great, well-rounded characters who offered a lot of advice, support and comic relief. Marge and Fergs, as the older couple who acted like mentors to Tripp and Lexi were wonderful and I really enjoyed them. The house, an old farm house that Lexi had always wanted to buy and Tripp eventually did, also seemed to have a character of its own and was instrumental in their relationship. Sometimes though, I felt like they loved the house more than each other! The plot had a lot of twists and turns, but I felt that most of it was extraneous and I just wanted to hurry on and read about how Lexi and Tripp were going to get around the situation they were in.

What ultimately saved it for me was the ending. I was absolutely enthralled, probably because it was extremely romantic and I have been watching a lot of a UK TV show called 'Don't Tell The Bride'. In the show, the couple get £12,000 to spend on a wedding with one catch—the groom has to plan every detail (including picking the dress). Not to give away too much, but those weddings are almost always a disaster, but the one at the end of Hide and Seek most certainly wasn't and really had me swooning.

The book wrapped up nicely and works well as a stand alone story, so I may or may not be picking up the sequels, but any romance fan should definitely give it a try.(less)

Having already read Aimee Laine's first book, Little White Lies, I had great expectations for Hide and Seek...and it completely lived up to them! She's brought the great paradox of the Teumessian fox and Laelaps into her story, the fox that could never be caught, and the dog that never failed to catch what it hunted...put them together, and it's like a circle that never ends. :P Lexi and Tripp embody these mythological figures, and by adding in some extreme attraction and sexual tension, Aimee Laine makes this myth even more fascinating. ;)

Hide and Seek's characters were fantastic! Lexi was awesome, and I thought she was an amazing heroine. She's smart, independent, and was wanting a little bit of excitement...needless to say, by the end of the book, she definitely got some. In more ways than one...sorry, I couldn't resist. :P Tripp was....oh, I don't even know how to begin to describe Tripp. First, he's totally drool-worthy...I mean come on, look at this book cover and tell me I'm wrong. :P Second, he is an amazing guy. He may not always do things the legal way, but he has morals and lines that he swears he won't cross, and he sticks to them. I respected that in him, and I respected that he was very forthright and honest. He's a great match for Lexi, and they compliment each other so well! :D

There's a bit of mystery revolving around Hide and Seek, and for a while it seems like it's going to straightforward and you think that you can kind of guess where it will lead, then suddenly something will pop up and keep you on your toes! I loved how Aimee wove this mysterious element into the romance and the conflicts surrounding them. I also really enjoyed the way that she reinvented the paradox between Laelaps and the Teumessian fox. Finally, while it's a very small detail in the story as a whole, I absolutely loved that Hide and Seek was set in Rune, just like Aimee Laine's Mimics of Rune series! :D Also, just in case anyone isn't aware, there is sex in Hide and Seek, it's not overly descriptive, but it is there, so if you're a little young for adult material or find it uncomfortable to read, even when it isn't gratuitous, this might not be the book for you. That being said, I personally thoroughly enjoyed ALL of this book. :)(less)

Apparently, Zeus still like to play with humans. He does it with Lexi and Tripp, the protagonists of this book, giving him two special talents: she can find everything you look for, he can steal anything without ever being caught.

Magnets and Romance. Two people who have to find a way to pull together to have their forever instead of push each other away. Tripp and Lexi have to find away to go against what seems to be their destiny-to be apart by decree. The mythology of Zeus' Fox and Hound has come alive with these two characters. There is absolutely no simplicity to this author’s writing style, the structure was very complex which completely complemented the multifaceted plot. Yet the author made it seem simple with the effortless way that she sewed the plot, romance, and suspense. The suspense was in the fact that you didn’t really know which way the story would go. The whole time I wonder in which direction the author was going to take this, which of course added to the emotional impact.

I am going to try and convey how much I liked this book. I'm not sure that it's possible though because it was soooo good.

To start with, it was a completely different PNR concept. There were no werewolves, vampires, faeries, witches etc. The hero and heroine were completely human and mostly normal. Wow! I don't even know what to say. I have never read anything by Aimee Laine before this book and I have to say I am now a fan. This book completely blew me away. I could not put it down and I ended up reading the whole book in 1 day.

She has high morals and she won't use her gift for personal use. Then she meets Tripp. Tripp also has a gift from Zeus, he is Lexi's complete opposite. He's the bad boy while she is the good girl but when they meet sparks fly. Literally! Will they be able to put aside their differences and fight for their relationship? Even if it means fighting the Gods?

I absolutely love books about mythology. I really love them but most mythology books I have come across have all been YA so when I heard about this I couldn't wait to read it. I have to say this is one of the best mythology books I have ever read. It completely blew me away and I could not stop reading.
Aimee's amazing writing style completely sucked me in from the first page and I was completely hooked. I loved every moment of this book and when I had to do something else all I wanted was to go back to my kindle and read some more.

Lexi is such a fantastic character, I really loved her and I loved seeing the struggle she went through in this book. She had to struggle between her feelings and her morals and I loved seeing her journey throughout the book and how she worked through everything.
Tripp, oh Tripp. When I first finished this book, if I had wrote my review then it would have just been, Tripp...... HOT! Yummy! He is definitely all of these things. He is the perfect book boyfriend and every girl will fall head-over-heels in love with him. I know I did. He is the bad boy and really what girl can't resist a bad boy? But then the more you read the more you see his softer side, he's sweet and romantic and Aimee mixed the loving guy and bad boy perfectly. I just love Tripp and I wish he were real! I know... I say that about every fictional guy, but really? I want them to be real.

I genuinely loved this storyline that Aimee has come up with and I cannot wait to read more of this series and see where Tripp and Lexi's relationship goes from her. To me this book had the perfect ending and I would be perfectly happy if this was a stand-alone novel but I am so excited to read the rest of the series.

I just want to say a huge thank you to J. Taylor Publishing for letting me review this book. It was fantastic and I know I will read it again and again and never get bored of it. It's not possible to get bored of Tripp.(less)

I wanted to give this book 4.5 stars; I really enjoyed it immensely. I loved the premise of certain individuals having "extra" abilities granted them by Zeus, and how it ties the constellations into mythology. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was because I felt the relationship between the 2 main characters, Lexi and Tripp, evolved like a whirlwind! Some books? It's just impossible to review them without sounding like a blathering imbecile. Most the time that happens to me, it's because I've fallen hook, line and sinker for the main male character and still have starry eyes whilst trying to write my review.
Everyone has a favourite type of male character who's their ultimate fictional guy. Tripp Fox is mine.

Well what an amazing book. I really think it was one of the most romantic I have ever read. I found that the pursuit to a happy ending always has to have it ups and downs, but it was the way this book handled it that I found so exciting.

I found I also learned a vaulable lesson when it comes to love in this book, “You can’t always judge people on what they might do, but on what they actually end up doing”. You have to have trust to have a great relationship, and that was so proven in this story.

A surprisingly great read! I was very surprised by how the author used the dog and fox paradox to construct an amazing love story. I really enjoyed this book even though I don't read a lot of romances. It was beautifully written and I had no trouble visualising the settings and the characters. I received this book from JTaylor Publishing to review because I am part of their reviewers program. So on to the review!

I really enjoyed this book. I loved it so much! It was exciting, the characters were amazing, it kept you guessing, and it was so different than the books I am use to reading.

Lets start with the character, Lexi and Tripp. Those to are what made the story! Tripp was wonderful. He was kind of everything I love in a male counterpart. Bad boy, but loving; Secretive, but willing; and Cunning, but cute. And Tripp was so adventurous. He brought the action to the book, but so did Lexi. I just adored his character! Lexi, was kind of self-conscience to me at first, the goody girl who didn't want to do anything wrong or take a chance. But I really like her character. She wanted to try new things and go outside her comfort zone, but would always second guess herself. Lexi and Tripp's relationship was absolutely, how should I say this, heated. Between the arguing, the sex, and their over all chemistry, what's not to love?!

Emma and Ian always had me laughing. Emma knew her twin and knew exactly what she would/say before she said it, which I loved! I loved when Emma called Lexi out on when she knew Lexi was thinking negatively about an issue. It was so entertaining. Ian was just a trip. But I loved he and Tripp's brotherly relationship.
Marge and Gorge confused the mess out of me in the beginning, but I now understand their whole part in the story. They were adorable!

The action in this book was written out so well. Since I am an action kind of girl, that is one of the things that keeps me flipping the pages and I was not disappointed with this book! I stay up all night to read this book and it is now 5:10 in the AM! I pulled an all nighter but I am so glad I did.

The ending was so sweet and I enjoyed every minute reading it! I would say the only problem I really had with this book was Lexi's inability to trust Tripp. As the reader, I see what he's capable of and how he's feeling. Lol It just frustrated me to know end, because I loved Tripp and trusted him so why is she having the trust issues! Lol Silly me :)

But overall, the book was amazing! I enjoyed it. It is an adult book to all my readers out their. But if you love a good romance, action, and a tad of mystery, I think you'll enjoy this book!(less)

I really enjoyed this read. It was well written and not choppy in any part leaving you wondering WTH? I love the story line, I'm a sucker for some mythology mixed in with my romance. The characters were fun and not wishy-washy in any way.

Lately I’ve been reading a lot of well-written novel that are based around Greek Mythology. Aimee Laine cleverly crafts Hide & Seek on Zeus’ fox and hound myth. Two people who are pulled together like magnets but also seem to find away to push away from each, afraid of what their destinies might become.

Lexi is a woman who seems to have all the bad luck in finding a good man, but good luck in finding anything else. After one of her side jobs goes wrong with the client, she is brought face to face with a man whom she feels a strong pull too. Tripp feels the same pull but he too is stuck in a bit of a mess, involving his special talent and a crazy relationship. Little does Tripp and Lexi know that their lives are about to get way more interesting now that they’ve met, but the thing is… they were never suppose to meet.

Lexi is a strong woman who has the worst luck in relationships, but on the other hand happily runs a successful business with her sister and twin. But they also like to have some adventure and use Lexi unusual talent in finding anything and everything for clients who are seeking something that’s not suppose to be findable. I love Lexi’s spunk and how she loved to be adventurous but still is on the edge about wanting to risk too much. She does have a large shield of protection up against letting someone in her heart. At some points I wished she would not have so many doubt about what was going on in her life and especially about Tripp, but in the end the story was put together nicely with all the twist and turns.

Tripp Fox, he’s pretty irresistible and in everyway Lexi’s opposite. He’s what you would call the Bad Boy, smart and very secretive but really has a softer side to him, especially when it comes to Lexi. I really enjoyed any scenes with his partner Ian, and also Tripp’s sister added for some humor moments in the story. His relationship with his so-called “girlfriend” is pretty all over the place and I just don’t see what attracted him to her in the first place. But in added some fun tension between Lexi and Tripp whenever she was brought up.

There was a lot of action and twist to this story that keeps you guessing, every page held my attention. The romance is passionate, sweet and even daring, there was one scene where I was blushing like a little girl. But I loved their chemistry and determination to take a chance at something that was supposed to never be.

Overall I sincerely enjoyed Hide & Seek, full of adventure, romance and mythology that will captivate you into this unique love story. Romance readers will devour this book and I highly recommend it.

RECOMMENDATION:
This is an adult romance novel with sexual content meant for adult +18. Fans of authors Gena Showalter and Lynn Veihl will love Hide & Seek by Aimee Laine.

I loved this book as it is paranormal, but no vampires, werwolves, angels or demons, just an old myth. They meet and fall in love but to stay together they have to outwit Zeus himself. Everything in their lives has had a purpose. Lexi came acorss as lolly gagging around when Tripp was doing all the work and trying to get things started in the planning of what they needed to get done.
