Förmodligen den bästa boken om det trettioåriga kriget från ett svenskt perspektiv. Men visst saknas balans. Vad det tyska riket, habsburgarna, påven, fransmännen osv. tyckte och tänkte lämnas utanför.

After I read the first chapter, I was a bit worried. Englund starts the book with a fairly detailed account of the Battle of Warsaw in 1656. Peter Englund takes us to XVII century, his incredible knowledge and attention to details reminds me of Barbara Tuchman's "A Distant Mirror".

This books offers us, XVII customs, perspective of the man who lived during this time. Atrocities of the war, Historical Battles, Stories of interesting people, Famous 30 years War, Politics, Sweden colonist in America and much much more.

I don't think this one is translated to English...it's a shame!
This is even better that the other Englund-book that I reviewed...I'd give this one 6 stars!

Fantastic descriptions of life and war in 17th century Europe based mostly on letters and eye-witness reports from the time.
