In an abandoned house in the Lake District, a cupboard door opens into a playroom. Buried in dust is a collection of children's books in which the names of characters have been savagely crossed out.

Here three children played a make believe game, sacrificing their dreams and wishes to make what they believed come true. But the game was never finished and in the woods behind

...more

Catriona b ...more

RATING: 2 estrelas.

Wow! Great book. "Bad Blood" had attracted me since my first spot on this book. The plot was really cool, although I wasn't get it much. Still great, though. Don't mention about the ending of this book that made me wanna praise Lassiter. It's awesome.
Yeah, I'd learned something from the Make-Believe Game, in Bad Blood, thank this book, haha.

Nothing can force or upset you if you don't let it.
Be the best of yourself, and don't lose your way.

I am reluctant to give up on a book even when I'm not enjoying it as I keep believing it will get better, that on the next page the story will really kick in. Well, unfortunately that wasn't the case with this one.

Judging by the cover and blurb I was looking forward to an old-fashioned haunted house story. What I got was reams and reams of boring ramble that went nowhere, characters I hated, no plot to speak of and an ending that made no sense. A waste of my time.

I wasn't really sure what to expect when I was reading this book. I noticed an author who had reviewed it that did make me hesitant as I found that particular authors books rather dull. However, boy was I surprised when I started to read it, for it was a whole lot more than what I was expecting and was therefore glad that I had not let that one small factor cloud my judgement of reading it. The book really seemed to have a very unique quality that had me engaged from beginning to end. The plot o ...more

Not many books leave me speechless, because I'm someone who has always something to say, about everything.
Not many books make really shiver.
Not many books make me read them in just one night without looking at the clock once.
Not many books make me turn on the light because I'm actually scared in the dark.

Bad Blood did all that and it didn't even need to try hard.
The story is not just interesting or strange it is fascinating. The book is dark mysterious and e

The moment I've read the synopsis of this book I knew it had potencial, and I was charmed by it. I simply had to read it, the fact that it was somehow a book that contained suspence got me even more into it.
It's quite easy going to read, despite all the events of the book, the author Rhiannon Lassiter makes it direct and simple, down to earth reading, and it's pleasant and enjoyable actually. The way she describes the points of views and feelings of each character makes you get to know each one

I started Bad Blood this morning because I was in the mood for something dark and scary. Sadly this book didn't fit the bill, no matter what it's blurb claimed. The back of the book claimed they were "a family divided by hate." This wasn't quite true. The two step sisters were unlikable shrews who went out of their way to make everyone miserable for no real reason. But the rest of the family got along fine, when they weren't letting the girls fight like the cats they were named after.

The house

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It's full of fantastically creepy fairy-tale ideas. Some of the other reviews have complained that it didn't make much sense, and I guess maybe it didn't. But I can't say that bothered me at all. I loved the atmosphere of dread, and the strangeness of the 'make-believe' creatures.

It reminded me very much of the Tricksters by Margaret Mahy and of the film, Pan's Labyrinth (which I LOVE). In particular, the gnarl and the vampiries were very Pan's Labyrinth. It also

Very much NOT my kind of book, but very effectively done.

Catriona/Cat was such an unlikeable girl, and her ability - and willingness - to make everyone miserable for little reason more than her nose being slightly out-of-joint was hard for me. Katherine/Cat's feeling that her very identity was being erased was also a powerful and disturbing element of the story. There was a part of me that slightly resented the fact that the two boys were so reasonable in contrast to the two girls, but there was

Too Many Thoughts
A great book overall.
I found the ending quite slow and it took me a while to understand the story but the middle and ending were great.
Though I didn't find Alice's narritive all that interesting for some reason, I was more rushing through her chapters than fully taking it in. She just wasn't a big enough character for me.
Anyways, 3 stars. If there was a half star on Goodreads I'd put 3 1/2 but since there isn't I'm rounding the number down...Bye.

Recommends it for: If you want to be even remotely scared, consider reading this in late childhood, early adolescence.

Oh god. I just remembered that I read this book in my early teens and I remember being emotionally scarred by it, lasting for some months. I don't think the result would be the same if I read it now, but I guess it made its impact on me in the way the author intended. I really enjoyed the way the creepiness was constructed (and was honestly terrified), but it could be done better still, to affect a bigger age group.

A family of six on vacation in an old mansion; a rivalry of names; an old game of make-believe; creepy dolls; bird children; evil trees; a couple of mocking reflections and a curious red-headed boy named Fox. These are some of the ingredients that make this book such an interesting read for fans of mysterious and intriguing plot and characters.

An odd book in that I can see how it could really appeal to some people, but it just didn't "do it" for me. Part of it is that I'm too old, and part of it is that I've never really been too fond of horror books. However, it'll be just perfect for kids who've outgrown Goosebumps but who aren't quite old enough for Stephen King yet.

This was MG I think(?). The story started off slow and it took me three times to actually get into it. I was pleasantly surprised by the actual plot when it started. I don't do spoilers, but I will say that this wasn't horror like I had initially expected. The cover and the blurb is deceiving and did not match up with the actual book.

This book has an interesting story and great imagery, but it was so much a children's tale that it was disappointing. Other authors manage child/adult cross over but not here - not too sure who this was aimed at - a shame!
