Rattling Bones
by
Thea Atkinson (Goodreads Author)
Rattling Bones is a collection of short stories with a dark edge. Meant for the chicklit reader who likes her fiction a little dark in places, it has a distinct literary flavor. The ideal reader doesn't mind a death or two and she certainly doesn't mind a few 'bad words' or adult situations.

Curiosity drew me to Thea Atkinson's collection of short stories, although I don't normally read horror or dark fiction. Once immersed however, I found the cover and title strangely misleading, for nothing as obvious as dry skeletons rises from stone sarcophaghi to rattle through the virtual pages.

These stories give an amazing insightful account of devastating pain and suffering. The author holds nothing back, her ability to write, and depict, the often tortured side of being human is nothing short of genius. I was most impressed by the realistic display and exploration of contradiction within each grim tale. This is not a book for those whom are easily upset, nevertheless, the writing is awesome and intense, and for many, well worth experiencing the pain.

Rattling Bones by Thea Atkinson is a collection of short stories. They focus on the ways that our love for the people surrounding us, along with our dreams and wishes, can change the way we that view life, or even death. If you like sad stories that leave you somewhat uncomfortable, this book has several of those. This collection of stories may not be cheery, but it is full of tales that reflect how our simplest actions are truly driven by our deepest love.

Thea Atkinson is a writer of character driven fiction; call it what you will: she prefers to describe her work as psychological thrillers with a distinct literary flavour. As in her bestselling novel, Anomaly, her characters often find themselves in the darker edges of their own spirits but manage to find the light they seek.
