Filled with intrigue, adventure and a little romance, The Waxing Moon will leave you reading long into the night. When the inhabitants of a small village in the north suddenly disappear, the people of Bariwon are left feeling uneasy. Trying to discover the fate of the townspeople, King Rayne sends a scouting party to investigate, but when the party discovers a secret passage hidden deep within the formidable mountains they discover things are worse than they feared. When the scouting party is a...more

In full disclosure I won this book in a Goodreads giveaway.

The characters are excellent, the main ones from the first book play only a small role in this one, but the new characters are so well written I didn’t really miss the original cast.

I found the new main good character, Snapdragon, to be more realistic than those in the first book; they were a little too good and without negative traits. Snapdragon starts off the book with some flaws, he is quick to anger, he is impulsive and doesn’t thin...more

When an email from J. Lloyd Morgan popped into my inbox, I was thrilled. I was lucky enough to review “The Hidden Sun” – a book I devoured in an evening – I could wait for it to arrive in my mailbox a few weeks later.

Like the first book in the series, we are back in Bariwon. This time, we get to learn about Snapdragon, the brother to the Queen and newly appointed Royal Guardian. We get to tag along while Snap and the rest of the new recruits go through training.. and a few surprises!

We pick up a...more

I really enjoyed this novel by J. Lloyd Morgan. It's the second in the Bariwon Chronicles and the story is very different in some ways from the first, which I also enjoyed. In the best ways, the two books are similar: characters that hook you, a plot that won't let go, a fantasy world described so well it seems real. The plot had unexpected turns I never would have foreseen, and I enjoyed watching the main character grow/mature. This is one I'll be saving to read again and again.

I loved J. Lloyd Morgan’s first book The Hidden Sun. I was lucky enough to get a copy of this book when it first came out. I had it read within a day. It’s that good! The book starts off with a bang and doesn’t let up. But it was the characters that sucked me in. Though he has a weird name, Snapdragon is a great hero to cheer for. I don’t want to ruin all the crap he has to deal with, but he made me like him all the more. I didn’t think Morgan could top The Hidden Sun, but he did!

This book... actually right now i'm speechless. I entered the giveaway with no idea if I would find when I opened the cover and find a jewel. The characters are enjoyable and you can relate to them, their flaws made them so human. Also (I didn't know this was the second book in this series), I was still able to follow and understand the plot. Will be reading the series, statring with the first book.

Thank you for giving me this book, it was a nice surprise.

I thoroughly enjoyed The Hidden Sun, and the action and plot twists in The Waxing Moon didn’t disappoint. From the beginning, tension builds in Bariwon, and I was cheering for Snapdragon as the adventure unfolded. What great characters. I loved this coming-of-age love story. My daughter and I happened to be reading it at the same time and I have to admit, my desire to get back to the book did motivate me to send her to bed earlier than usual that one night. :)

This is a fun, adventurous read. A great follow-up to The Hidden Sun.

This book was good. It continues the story of King Rayne, Queen Sunshine, and her brothers, Oakleaf and Snapdragon and the kingdom of Bariwon. An entire town disapears and no one knows why or how. Some people are trying to free Abrecon during the confusion.
