THE CHRISTMAS MARRIAGE RESCUE

An enjoyable read. I love the rescue team at the Lake District.
Alessandro, the Spanish hero in this book, is hot and delicious! Christy is fabulous - strong, intelligent and capable. However, both hero and heroine needed a good slap! They didn't communicate clearly even though they were both crazy about each other. The kids in this story were fabulous and conversations with and between them hilarious!

First of all, I had no idea this wasn’t a full novel. When I initially picked this up off of Net Galley I thought it was one story, but upon reading I quickly discovered that wasn’t the case. After about fifty pages in and things clicking along pretty quickly I realized it would be hard to draw it out for more than maybe another hundred pages. I flipped ahead to discover a second story and was actually pretty excited about it. I’m a huge fan of short stories when written well and these were actually a little longer than a short story but still very well written. It also was a great fit for a Christmas Chick Lit story making it an incredibly quick and fun read!

Having not expected Miranda and Jake’s story I just took it as a bit of a bonus read and thoroughly enjoyed it though I think I enjoyed Christy and Allesandro’s story the best. From the first chapter I was completely captured by Christy and couldn’t help but wonder why it was that she left her very attractive and successful husband. What came after was a story about forgiveness mixed with a wonderful family Christmas with their scheming children. As for Miranda and Jake, I loved how persistent he was and of course I’m a sucker for a happily ever after which definitely happened.

Wish Upon A Star by Sarah Morgan is the perfect cozy romantic chick lit novel for the holidays. Easily read in one or two settings due to the break up between the two short stories within it’s pages. Follow along with Christy & Allesandro as they struggle to overcome their differences and become a happy family just in time for Christmas day and watch as Jake does everything he can to convince Miranda of his love. Both stories within the pages of Wish Upon A Star are fantastic and great reads for the holiday season.

In the first one, Christy is still reeling from the temporary separation from her husband Alessandro, which is starting to look like a permanent thing even though she never intended for things to turn out that way, she was just trying to give Alessandro a wake up call as to the state of their marriage - namely that he worked too much, took her for granted and that they only 'quality' time they spent together was in bed - but he didn't quite get the message she wanted.

Instead, Alessandro - a brilliant doctor - is gutted by what he sees as Christy's desertion and by the fact she moved with their kids to London. But, after 12 years of marriage, he isn't sure what he should do, specially after their two kids demand the four of them spend Christmas together.

Between being back under the same roof, their scheming children, the help of their best friend Jake and the general awesomeness of the season, Christy and Alessandro don't stand a chance.

In the second story, Jake Blackwell was trying to avoid spending Christmas in his big empty house or surrounded by his happily married best friends - Christy and Alessandro from the first story - when he came across a nearly frozen woman named Miranda, while hiking in the mountains near his home.

Miranda was just trying to find a way to quiet her despairing thoughts when she got lost in the mountain, and was quite glad to met Jake there, but wasn't so glad when he wouldn't leave her in peace. Still, the loneliness got the better of her and she ended up agreeing when Jake offered to take her to his house so she could get warm and so neither of them had to spend the day alone.

It had been a really long time since Jake felt true interest for any woman, and Miranda intrigues him, so he's none too pleased when he discovers her gone after one very heated kiss between them, and great is his surprise when he finds her again, a few hours later, and realizes that a) she's the new midwife working in his ward (he's an obstetrician) and b) that she's six months pregnant.

My Thoughts: I was sort of expecting Wish Upon a Start to be something fluffy and chick-lit-ish, but it was a bit different. This special release by author Sarah Morgan is actually a compilation of two previously released category romances, and they were very good in their own way.

Sarah Morgan has a style that pulls you in right away, and since I was in the mood for something quick, Christmasy and fun, this book worked very well for me.

Since the stories are rather short, there isn't a lot of character development but the characters still have enough depth even if Alessandro and Chisty are a little archetypical - him, hot blooded Spaniard, she a fiery red head - and comunication isn't their forte.

I admit that I would have liked more length in "Miranda" since I think the story had a lot more to give, but it was still my favorite of the two.

All in all, it was a lovely read, and great for this holiday season.(less)

When I picked this book up I didn't realise that it was a Mills & Boon book.

The book is actually two stories in the one book. The writing is very typical of the genre. I read a lot of Mills & Boon books in my early teens. I don't mind them as an inbetween read as they are non taxing and very easy to read.

The two novellas were both fast fun reads.

The first was a romance within an on-the-rocks relationship, and (taken as fluff) it was very entertaining. A highly volatile couple, a precocious kid, and a heavy dose of wish fulfillmen to top it off.

Review: Wish Upon A Star is a compilation of two of Sarah Morgan's Christmas books from a few years back. Both are set in Lake District. Christy's story is the first and it is truly a good example of a Harlequin Presents (the line that Ms Morgan primarily writes for) Alessandro is a true Harlequin/Mills and Boon alpha male. He's arrogant, rich and a little bit clueless when it comes to his lady. However, the reason I adore Sarah's books is that her alpha males may be arrogant, but they aren't heartless.

This story was about a married couple that were losing each other and how they found their way back into love. (As that song from Music and Lyrics goes) Christy and Alessandro's kids are the real stars of this show. Katy is mature beyond her years, but is so spot on, and little Ben is adorable. These kids make the story. It is easy to cheer when you reach the end of this one.

Miranda's story is more a medical romance. Jake was introduced in Christy's story and now he finds his love with pregnant midwife, Miranda. I learned more than I wanted to about child birthing while reading this. This was a totally sweet love story. Jake is the kind of hero we all want to find for ourselves. There was only one thing in this story that bothered me. A young girl left her baby in an alley. She didn't get in trouble? WTF? That would not happen. The child would have been taken in by the authorities and the mom would have been sent to jail.

This book really took me by surprise. I was desperate for a lovely festive read and fell straight away for the cover of this book when I saw it on Net Galley, so I quickly requested it. Little did I know that it was a Mills and Boon book! To be honest I was shocked. I grew up reading my nan's Mills and Boons books and although I enjoyed them they were quite a secretive read. This was mainly due to the covers, so I was quite surprised to see such a lovely cover on this book.

Little did I know that it was a Mills and Boon book! To be honest I was shocked. I grew up reading my nan's Mills and Boons books and although I enjoyed them they were quite a secretive read. This was mainly due to the covers, so I was quite surprised to see such a lovely cover on this book.

I was even more flabbergasted when I realised how much I loved this book. It was a comforting yet realistic read that was just perfect for the season of goodwill.

The book is made up of two stories which are interlinked as a secondary character in the first story becomes the major character in the next. The first story is about Christy, a mother of two who has left the marital home after falling out with her husband. This story takes us on a journey to see them reunited in time for Christmas Day.

Christy dithers quite a bit and the miscommunication and misunderstanding of each other's feelings began to grate on my nerves a little. I wanted to sit Christy and Alessandro down for a marriage guidance session. Alessandro is a little too bullish for my liking. You get the impression that onlyhis opinion matters and I was pleased to see Christy stand up to him. I found his Alpha male attitude a bit tiring for my liking, but I warmed to him by the end of the story. Their daughter Katie was hilarious as she went out of her way to play Cupid between her parents. The things she got her brother blamed for in the name of love; poor little soul was constantly in trouble. I wasn't always convinced by Katie's language as for an eleven year old she seemed sometimes far too mature for her age. Having two eleven year olds myself, I could never imagine them talking to me with such maturity.

My favourite character in the book is Jake, who thankfully is one of the main characters in the second story, Miranda. He is so sweet and loving, as well as being protective and understanding just the type of man everyone is looking for.

To be honest, I loved the story of Miranda more than Christy's story. I loved the relationship between Jake and Miranda. How he took this pregnant unmarried mother under his wing was just beautiful, even though she fought him all the way, as she was determined to keep her independence. The second story was definitely more realistic and gritty too as it deals with teenage pregnancy and abandoned babies. Not the type of subjects I expected to find in a Mills and Boons book.

On the whole, I really enjoyed Sarah Morgan's style of writing. I found I could believe in the characters and I whipped through both books rather quickly. I loved the way both stories were interconnected and followed on from each other.

I would love to see more of the Mills and Boon books with new covers. I am positive they would appeal more to the modern chick lit brigade if they all looked like this one. I really enjoyed the book and think I may have found a new secret guilty pleasure in Mills and Boon books!(less)

This is my first book from the Mills & Boon Medical Romance Line. Two short stories, but I preferred Miranda and Jake's story.

I believe this book is mainly for an UK audience, some of the words were unknown to this U.S. reader....
If you enjoy medical romance, I think you will enjoy ‘Wish Upon a Star’, with the few exceptions noted above. Though it does have a few rough patches for me, it was not bad, but not great.

Christy has been struggling with a job she doesn’t like, a husband that’s always working, two kids, one is almost teenager and worst of all, and she’s only 32, a whole life ahead of her. So the book is around Christmas, the children decided to spend on daddy’s house, but the true, is that they’re meddling to get mommy and daddy together again.

Christy discovers that she can’t live in London, so during the holidays while helping on the hospital she decides to return and live in Lake District once again, and almost everyone tries to help her get back with Alessandro.

Loved this one, some moments was very fun, especially since the kids decided to “help”, but others had the right peace of feelings, love and understanding.

Miranda took me some time to really feel the book. Jake sounds since the first book, like a perfect guy who just wanted one thing from life, find the woman to live and raise kids together; he once was in love with Christy and since them no one, really made him feel in love, until he found Miranda almost dying in the snow on Christmas day. He took her home and fought really hard from the begging until the very end, for her to understand that his feelings were real.

Miranda has suffered a lot in her life and the book explains that really well, but she took a long time to follow her heart. It’s interesting, but in the books I always cheer for the guy to discovers his feelings and in this one I was cheering for the girl, not that I liked her, but I wanted a happy ending for Jake.(less)

This is what I thought...

There were two stories...sort of related...about love lost and found during the Christmas season.

One family is lost and has to find its way back together. The other family is trying to actually be a family.

Not sure I loved it. The characters were ok...not that memorable. The problem was that I did not feel these characters.

I did not like them very much nor did I like their choices...especially the characters in the first story.

So...for me...not wondrous.

They are able to talk when they find themselves at the hospital at the same time. It's very busy with the holidays, staff not there, and holiday travel. The kids sense getting them back together is not working so they try to force them by jumping on their mom's bed hoping to break it so she'll have to sleep with their dad in the same bed. That backfires when the dad says he will take the couch and give the bed to the mother. Again the kids try, other things to get them back together.
Part of the hospital job is going out on mountain rescue missions. Alessandro is going to one and doesn't want Christy to go incase anything should happen one of them will be around to raise the kids. She wants to go also. They are spending a lot more time together, during emergencies and they are able to talk more about their problem.
Love the details of what goes into a mountain rescue especially an avalanche.

Next section is called Miranda
Jake found her body in the snow, Miranda. He put his hat on her and tried to give her a candy bar. She was shivering so bad.
It was Christmas day and he did not want to alert the rescue squad so they decided they would walk down the mountain.
They talked a lot on the way down and got to know one another.
He took her back to his place and gave her a hot bath and fed her and she stayed the night, on the couch. When the phone rang in the morning he went into another room, it was the hospital-they needed him. When he got back to the living room she was gone.
He didn't even know her name or where to find her. She was hiding a lot of things from him and she did not want to share them with anybody.
Miranda shows up at the hospital, she's a mid wife and shes 6 months pregnant also.
Second day at the hospital, he brings her to her home and things don't go quite good.
A lot of other meaningful things happen and they talk a lot more to get to know one another better.
Good to know this author will have another book out the summer of 2012.

She starts to realize that she's missed the fast paced life at the hospital, she's missed adult conversations and the hustle and bustle of the A and E unit.

Alessandro can't get over the fact that his wife left him. She took their two kids and walked out on him, leaving him behind. He didn't even know that anything was wrong. When she comes back, things are awkward and they're at a loss as to what to do about their situation. Should they stay or should they go?

This whole story was one giant ball of mis-communication. Both Alessandro and Christy spent a great deal of the story assuming what the other was thinking, not talking to one another and staying mad at each other. More than once, I wanted to smack them both upside their heads and yell, "Get it together you dumbasses!"

When they finally did get it together and talked things out, I was glad for it. I was also thirsty for more of Alessandro's best friend Jake Blackwell so when I turned the page and found his story starting, I was over the moon.

Jake's story takes place not too long after Christy and Alessandro's ends. It's Christmas day and Jake is out walking by the lake. It's cold as balls and he probably shouldn't be out and about since winters in the UK are pretty cold and snowy, but when he comes across a crying woman- a gorgeous crying woman, he sets about rescuing her from the harsh weather and the fact that she's not dressed for being out in the middle of this weather.

Jake and Miranda's story happens so fast. One moment, they're meeting and the next thing you know, she's moving into his house and they're getting to know each other and then they fall in love. Jake fell in love first and came to grips with what he was feeling and then set about trying to convince Miranda that what he felt was true and not going to change but Miranda's past messed her up because she had low self esteem and didn't think that a man was worth the heart ache.

As their story progresses, my heart went out to Jake. Miranda was stubborn and knew what she knew. There wasn't anything that Jake could have done to convince her otherwise until she was good and ready. There were a time or two when I wanted to shake some dang sense into Miranda but in the end, things worked out the way that they were supposed to and I was happy for Jake. Seeing him in the first book and finding out that the only woman he loved before Miranda fell in love with someone else made me antsy for his happy ending and I was over the moon when he finally got it.

The romance between Jake and Miranda should have felt rushed but I didn't get that when I was reading their story. It happened fast but sometimes that's the way love goes (ha! Who sang Janet Jackson after reading that sentence?). I enjoyed getting to know Jake and Miranda and even though their story seemed too good to be true, I still ate it all up.

Overall, both stories made for an entertaining way to spend a few hours. I enjoyed both stories but between the two, I enjoyed Jake's story more. This book was cute and fluffy and it didn't take itself too seriously which I appreciated. It's the first book that I've read by Sarah Morgan and I don't think it'll be my last either. This book was an enjoyable way to spend the weekend so I would definitely recommend this book to lovers of the chick lit genre as well as fans of Sarah Morgan's books.(less)

Both stories were a bit predictable. Okay, a LOT predictable. I liked Miranda's story a bit better, but still, exactly the kind of story that my Grandmother would read. If you are looking for light and easy, give this one a shot, but don't say I didn't warn you about the predictability.

This consists of 2 previously published books from her medical line that take place around Christmas. The first story involves a married couple who are initially seperated and how they find their way back to one another - nice enough.

The second story was more enjoyable - a couple falling in love in relatively difficult conditions - she is pregnant and very untrustworthy of everyone. He was a very nice hero.

Really enjoyed both story's was nice to have 2 for price of one did not realise that when I bought it only fault was I bought it for a Christmas read started it far to early and read it within 3days

The book contains two stories. The first story is about Christie who has recently left her husband of 12 years as she thinks he does not love her any more. When there two children say they want to spend christmas at home with there dad as a family Christie is not happy but agrees for the childrens sake.

The second story is about Miranda who is 6 months pregant and on her own. She meets Jake who sweeps her of her feet straight away. This I felt was the weaker story of the two.
