Tallen

Rate this book
Growing up not far from the road to Chinta on the edge of the Jungle Dragon, Tallen is excited to have her two brothers home. Recent times have been hard, Tallen herself barely surviving an attack by a derelict stranger in their very own barn.

The war that never was has relieved them of their duty at Chinta, so much so, that her father, the Sergeant of the Guard, is able to return for a visit, bringing news of a possible suitor for Tallen, given that she is almost of that age.

Tallen is not sure what she wants, and the man her father brings home is not what anyone expected. But at least she knows that her family has her best interests at heart when the pompous, self-interested merchant's son is sent back to Chinta.

The aftermath of the Offworlder's quest remains uncertain, the battle apparently lost. But for a reluctant Tallen, the journey is only just beginning, upon a path from which there may be no return.

Beneath the Moon and Stars joint review

Family was such a big part of this. I was shocked when the fire happened and suddenly Tallen had no one. I knew that the same guy was gonna come back for her because everyone kept thinking about it. John finds Tallen and then it was like she had someone other then her adorable dog Wanderer . It was kinda like they both had no one and they were meant to find each other. I kept waiting for Tallen to give up on her revenge and get started with the quest Tassleian left for her. That never happened. Basically the whole book was about her getting revenge for her family. At first I thought that was kinda annoying but in the end it made perfect sense. That also leaves it open for a sequel which I would love.
Tallen is so much different than Darci. I found it easier to connect with her. Just that made this hard to put down. Wanderer is the most adorable sidekick ever. I really liked John. His protectiveness over Tallen was cute. He was like a fatherly figure. Tallen was kinda a brat when she left him at the inn. Mouse was so adorable. Rhody seriously made this book for me. I kept waiting for a love interest. Tallen and Rhody were super cute even if it was only for a little while. I'm gonna miss these characters. Over all I really liked this. I wouldn't say it was better then Quest of the Demon. Their about equal. But this was easier to connect with :). 4/5 Stars

The beginning of this book was so sad and I totally did not see it coming. Basically her whole family dies and all she has left is Wanderer one of the puppy's of her dog who died too. I don't think I could go through what Tallen does in this book and not completely fall apart and I really liked Tallen because of that she was super strong even though she was mourning she didn't get that get in the way of what she was trying to do. Which was get revenge on Slevin the guy whose fault it was that her whole family died. This book was way different than Quest of the Demon because even though there was was a quest she needed to do she put that aside and the main plot was her trying to get revenge there as so much more than that. I really loved all the characters. Like I said Tallen is super strong and determined almost to determined. John was really supportive up until the end and I really liked him. Wanderer was probably my favorite even though he's a dog if I had a side-kick I would want it to be him :) Mouse was adorable he would be a good side-kick too and no he's not really a mouse. Rhody was awesome him and Tallen were super cute and I hope they can work it all out in the end. Slevin was absolutely horrible I hated him and he deserved everything that happened to him. Overall I liked this book as much as Quest of the Demon and I cannot wait to see what happens in the next book.
4/5 stars.

When Tallen and her family said no to Slevin, the son of a rich merchant, they didn’t realise just how severe the repercussions would be. After an attack instigated by the spoiled man who is used to getting his own way, Tallen is left injured and alone, she vows revenge on the man and all who helped him burn her home to the ground. Help came in the form of John, one of Slevins men who realised how wrong the situation was and instead of following orders he took Tallen away to protect her and let her heal. They go on a journey together with Wanderer, Tallens puppy.

At sixteen years old, Tallen is a really strong and likable character she’s tough and a bit of a tom boy who learned to fight along side her brothers. I liked her and connected with her immediately. The relationship she had with the boys, Patet and Beral was everything you’d want from siblings…humorous, competitive respectful and the love between them was palpable. The family had a really happy feel to it.

The story was a bit slow in the beginning but once it did start….. wow it really took off I was itching to find out what happened and couldn’t predict the story from one page to the next. After it’s slow start the story was really fast pace with lot’s of action, and quite a bit of fighting but thankfully the violence wasn’t too gory. It was at times very sad but emotionally it was well balanced with happy times too. I enjoyed meeting Taslessian from book one and overall I think this is a much more interesting read than the first instalment.

The book is well written with a developed plot, and the series is proving to be a very interesting one. I like the fact that this part of the story was finished….even though it didn’t end how I wanted it to! I also liked the inclusion of the epilogue. I’m looking forward to the next book.

I guess this book is technically considered the first of a series, but it actually takes place after Quest of the Demon, which I reviewed here. I guess this new series is kind of like a companion to Quest of the Demon instead of being a sequel to it. Either way, I'd definitely read Quest of the Demon first because I think knowing what happens in that book is helpful, even if it may not be absolutely necessary.

It was interesting to read a book narrated by a character that we only got to see briefly in Quest of the Demon. Tallen ended up being a lot different by the end of this book than I would have expected her to be while reading the other book. She definitely changed a lot during the book. At some points I wondered if it was even possible for her to change so quickly, but then I thought about everything she went through, and I guess it's not too outrageous for her to be completely different after going through the horrible things she does in this book.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book, and I'm looking forward to reading the next one. I'm a little disappointed that it will have yet another new narrator, since I loved both Darci and Tallen, and I'd love to read more from their point-of-view. At the same time, since I loved reading about Darci and Tallen, I'm sure having another new narrator won't bother me for long because I'll enjoy their story as well. I'm definitely anxious to see what happens to Tallen and Darci though, so I'm hoping we get to hear more about them soon.

I first met Tallen in Quest of the Demon and remember liking her for the brief moment she was in the story. So when I learned that the sequel was going to be Tallen's adventure, I couldn't wait to dive in-- And what a story it was! The aftermath had a whole different vibe than the first book and I instantly connected with Tallen from the very start.
When Tallen's family sends back a potential suitor for Tallen, they had no idea what would soon happen next. Oh! My! Goodness! This part of the book floored me and I wanted revenge my damn self. Tallen had everything viciously ripped from her, her family, her home and her heart! Seriously, girl had every right to be pissed and want revenge . . . just saying! She had such determination and courage to take justice into her own hands that I couldn't help but admire her for it-- because I know I would want the same thing. And I will say she definitely made some decisions I didn't necessarily agree with, but understood the emotions behind them. And speaking of emotions, this book was full of them. I know while I was reading it I skipped through about all of them from anger to sadness to being giddy like a school girl! This story was jammed packed with crazy action that had me on the edge of my seat til the very end. And the characters were something else completely, my favorite being Wanderer, Tallen's dog! He was such a joy to read about and I can't wait to see whats in store for him and Tallen in the next book!

Earlier in the year I read 'Quest of the Demon' by ML Sawyer, It was OK but didn't blow me away. I was contacted again by the author with this book. Tallen is in the first book but only briefly. When I met her as a character in the first book I wanted to know more and was disappointed she didn't feature again, so I accepted this book to read with enthusiasm.
I wasn't sure what I would think but was instantly blown away. For me, Tallen is the character that you should focus on, she grabbed me in a way Darci couldn't and I felt myself connect with her. This book takes you right into the world and the action starts straight away. I was literally sitting there in my lunch break at work reading like mad, trying to get as far as I could before I had to go back out, I wanted to know more.
There is quite a lot of violence in this book, but saying that it wasn't overdone. I enjoyed this book and admired Tallen's strength and determination. I love her puppy Wanderer - I could just give him a great big hug. You also meet a Mercenary named John and I really liked him, I loved how he was there for Tallen, and willing to help her.
I was surprised with the route Tallen chose later in the book, her desire for revenge overtakes her, but it did offer an exciting read, wondering if she would go through with it or not.
I enjoyed this book so much more than the first. I couldn't put it down. Incredible. I want more from Tallen. :D

Tallen, a character briefly met in Quest of the Demon, is back and the center of attention in this new book by M.L. Sawyer. A much darker book than the original, Sawyer dives deep into the world of a young woman betrayed and looking for revenge. Though I felt terribly sorry for Tallen throughout much of the book, I found her to be an extremely strong, very well written character. And, though I didn’t always agree with her choices, I completely understand where she is coming from and how grief and anger can cloud a person’s judgment. Sawyer has created a very real character in that of Tallen, and I truly enjoyed reading her story.

Again, Sawyer has left the ending of the novel open for a sequel, and I am very interested to know what happens next for Tallen, especially as there is much foreshadowing throughout the novel. I also really enjoyed how Sawyer tied events from Quest of the Demon to those with Tallen, and I am excited to read more of both stories...

Family to me is one of the most important things that I cherish throughout my life. Even my friends I consider my family. Everyone I love is considered my family. If by some chance my family is murdered I would want to seek revenge. No matter the cost.

I thought it was pretty heart breaking how at the very begginning of the book Tallen loses her whole family, except her faithful sidekick Wanderer. But she wo't be left on her own for long. John soon joins the two and with that addition a bond is created.

Throughout this book, I was able to connect with the charcters more in this book than in the other. Tallen was just an understanable and the over protection that John has over her is one that anyone can love. Or come to at least. And of course her dog. Can't forget the dog.

With easier connection than the other. I came to love this book and I recommend this book to all readers. Check it out.

I give this book 4 souls!

In Quest of the Demon, which was Darci’s story, we meet Tallen who is the main character for this story. We only have a brief look at Tallen in Quest of the Demon, but now we get in depth and things turn darker in Tallen.

Darkly compelling, Tallen is a page-turner! Full of action once some of the back story was taken care of, this story is unpredictable, yet well-balanced. I loved Tallen’s puppy, Wanderer, and thought he was a great addition. Very enjoyable with characters you care about and a great plot! I look forward to more of Tallen’s adventures.

I reviewed Quest of the Demon the first book a while back here is the link. I liked Quest of the Demon and I think I liked Tallen even more. We were introduced to Tallen in Quest of the Demon when Darby and her were attacked by a man in Tallen's barn. I like Tallen a lot. In QOD I thought she was very young and naive but she really is a strong young lady. I just want to say that Ms.Sawyers writing has improved since her first novel! If your looking for a fun and adventurous read this is your calling....I rate this 4 out of 5 stars!Check it out.
