A rose for Melinda is a book that shows you that you can't always get what you want. This girl gets leukemia but still doesn't give up her dream of becoming a prima ballerina. I would say that this book is a book of hope and love. It keeps you wanting to read more but mainly it will inspire you to go for what you want. It's great when there's nothing wrong with you and you can still pursue your dream. This girl had the opposite of that but she still didn't give up. I never wanted to put this boo...more

The book A Rose For Melinda is about a girl who has been in ballet since she was six years old and has had a friend who was a boy and he went to her first performance and gave her a rose. This book was very sad because Melinda finds out she has cancer and can no longer do ballet which is the most important thing in her life besides her best friend Jesse. The most captivating part of the book was when Melinda was rushed to the hospital without her parents there because she was accepted into a sum...more

This book was very good and cute to me.I liked it because it had meaning to it, when i say it had meaning to it i'm saying that even though melinda got truely sick with cancer she didnt give up on life. She worked through cancer with the support of her best friend jesse, mom and dad lenny and elana. She was so determined to get rid of her cancer that she did.Even when she got the bad news later on in life that her cancer has returned she fought it out all the way to the end. She didn't let her fe...more

I found the format of this book interesting, however it was distracting. I couldnt concentrate very well and didn't find it very "story-like". But i did like the format. i found this story very sweet since the two main characters melinda and jesse knew each other since they were young. Especially the first story where jesse defended some dude for pushing melinda. i was beginning to think that this story was going to be different from the other two that i've read (in True Love). but i was wrong....more
LOVE THIS BOOK!!!!
Lurlene McDaniel's books usually have tragic endings but the overall love and emotion really takes over. In the beginning of the story it starts off with a very strong friendship that is turning into a forever relationship. Lurlene Mcdaniel really shows that even though you are going through something tragic there is always someone there for you. Through thickness and thin, even sickness and health. Thats how you know that person is the one you want to spend the rest of your li...more

I really love Lurlene McDaniel's books. To be honest, I didn't really like this one when it started. The format was different from her other books, and the story was told through notes, emails, journal entries, and online chats. The plotline was slightly cheesy originally, but McDaniel still ended with a flourish. Even though all of her books are sad, I always forget how close she makes you feel to the character when you are reading it. So yes, I still cried. To be honest though, I think that he...more
This was the first book that I read by Lurlene Mcdaniel back when I was in middle school. It was and still remains to be one of my favorite books in the entire world. This is still shocking to me because I love fantasy and rarely read anything else. The fact the Lurlene Mcdaniel could right a non-fantasy book that stole my heart is impressive. This book makes me cry every time that I read it. The way that it is written in letters and e-mails makes it seem more childlike and innocent which makes...more
I loved this book. It was the best book I have ever read! I gave it 5 stars because it was very interesting. I thought it was really sweet that they were friends when they were little, and they stayed friends as long as time allowed. The end of the book was so sad. It was the saddest book I have read out of all the Lurlene McDaniel books that I have read. I recommend this book to anyone that likes books with sad endings. It’s hard to put this book down once you start reading it! It was a great b...more

First off, i could not put this book down. i read it in just 2 hours time. I was given this book to read from my dear friend Danika. She told me it was one of her favorite books and after reading it I can see why! It was a beautiful story of love and fighting your way through an awful disease. It left me with uncontrollable tears after reading this and the story will definitely remain in my heart. Thanks Danika for bringing this book into my life.
A Rose For Melinda is a really great book to read if you are into romance. It's about about a girl named Melinda, when she was little she found out that she had leukemia. Her best friend Jesse had moved away because his mother got a new job. Dring the summer his mom and dad got a divorce. When Jesse has moved away him and Melinda keep in touch. This book shows a bond between Melinda and Jesse, and how they become closer.

This book was very easy to read, but I'm getting tired of all of Lurlene McDaniel's books having to do with leukemia. Yes, they are interesting but can't she come up with a new topic sometimes? The ending was adorable, I didn't have any idea that it would end that way! Very interesting, I would say its an average book that would serve as a filler between books
it was a very good book but very sad towards the end i began to cry uncontrollably this beautiful young girl wants to become a dancer but her dreams are crushed when she finds out she has cancer and then her old friend came back and they fall in love and she ends up dieing its truly a great book recommended to any one who likes romance but beware it is very sad.
I thought this book was precious. I loved that Melinda and her friend communicated through messages throughout their whole friendship. You could see them mature and fall in love, which was my favorite part of the book. It was awful to read that she had passed before her friend got to see her, but still great.
Very good book. I finished it within hours of checking it out from my library. I felt like the characters were realistic & Lurlene McDaniel does a very nice job of making it real which is very hard to do with this genre & idea. I would recommend this book for a hopeless romanic or someone for heart felt stories
I lllloooovvvveee this book!! I insisted one of my cousin to read this book and she cried just like me big fat tears!! Great book. A very sad book but great at the same time. I like how Ms. McDaniel teaches us about death but in a way that we can understand it and can come to terms to what is happening.
This book is so Inspiring!! I cried so much! But in a way they were happy tears. I love how Melinda and Jesse love eachother so much and how they were there for the other through it all. That's real love. Who cares if they were so young, it was real. This will now and always be one of my all time favorite books.
I LOVED this book! This book is the best book I have ever read. It is also the saddest book I have ever read. My favorite part was when Melinda and Jesse saw each other again for the first time in years because it was exciting to me. I think everyone should read this book. I recommend this book to anyone who hasn’t read it. This book was great!
This is my favorite book of hers. I love books that have to main character fall in love with their best friend. I also live how this book is written in journal entries and emails. I was almost crying at the end. I kind of related to this book because I did ballet fro 5 years. I have read this book (i think) twice. I would read this book again. I want Lurlene McDaniel to write a sequel, but from Jesse's point of view or after her death.
A close friend gave me a book by this author for Christmas and I was hooked. This one I bought on my own and its my favorite. I read it in 9th grade - in one night! It is sweet, cute and totally heart breaking.
Read it. It'll make you smile even when you're crying.

“Please don't miss me too much. Please don't be too sad. Find someone else to love, because you have much love to give and it's a gift that shouldn't be wasted. You , Jesse, were the rose that made my life sweet.I will wait for you in heaven.”

“Cancer isn't the worst thing that can happen to a person. And neither is dying young. Taking life for granted, living badly-- these things seem far worse to me. In many ways- ways that count- I'm the luckiest girl in the world.”
