Wow! This book makes me completely out of myself.
It’s a great story very well developed with no missing thing.
It is about George (short from Georgina) 34 years old caterer, a very successful and promising. She lives a coy life without relationships and she so dedicated to her caterer firm. George have employee Helen, who is her friend too.
Helen is a modest woman, quite and dedicated to her work.

I am always very honest in my book reviews and any of you who have read my previous reviews on Mandy Baggot’s books will know I always seem to be surprised how much I enjoy them as I never liked the front cover of the books. George is asked to cater for Quinn’s after-show party and immediately they have an unexplained bond with each other. It is during this time that the feelings they have for each other blossom into something that draws the reader in. You feel George’s anxiety and fear underneath those feelings she has no control over.

All the time we are being drawn into their relationship, there are another couple of threads running through the story … Mandy Baggot subtly drops hints about George’s childhood and background so we never know for sure what has happened in the past. Whatever it was has impacted George to her very roots and leads to her becoming the women she is today and affects how she interacts with the world around her. We also find out that there is something in Quinn’s past that ties him to his record producer Roger. We don’t get many hints of what this could be which leads to intrigue and supposition. You want to keep reading to find out what is holding Quinn back from becoming the person he is meant to be!

The settings at home and in Spain worked really well. I could imagine Finger Food staff busy preparing and presenting the food, the concert that George and Marisa attend and the scenes on the roof. In Spain I could feel the heat and enjoy the food in the out-of-the-way restaurant. I suffered in the heat while preparations went ahead for the wedding.

Thecharacters are brilliantly drawn; Helen and her daughter Marisa who work with George in her catering business – Helen is a stabilising factor while Marisa definitely adds colour! I loved the way Marisa came through in an emergency showing us that how George relates to her is based on the things she did in her own childhood and not the person Marisa actually is. George’s family are portrayed really well – her controlling mother and laid-back father. Adam’s love of music and chance to practise with Quinn and perform at the start of the wedding is also another added thread to the story.

George and Quinn’s is not the only love that unfurls in Strings Attached. It was great seeing two of the other characters finally getting together!

The author writes mainly in the third person but when we share Quinn’s thoughts, it is written in the first person. For me this worked really well and gave a depth to Quinn’s character that drew me in even more.
There is one surprise I received just over half-way through the story in connection to George’s family… that really wasn’t something I expected as I didn’t see it coming at all!

The things that are gradually revealed keep the readers interest and in my opinion are totally believable. I enjoyed George and Quinn’s relationship – the tenderness and the passion, the uncertainty and the secrets. This is a chick lit story that has stayed with me since I’ve read it.(less)

He's handsome, hot, super famous and of course, stalked by women constantly. Though George is really trying to stay professional, Quinn seems to have other plans. For how long will she be able to resist his charm? Is it possible that someone as hot and famous as Quinn could be after someone as George? She's gorgeous of course, but she's not a celebrity, so are there any chances for such a relationship to work out?
Well, things will get complicated and some parts of their personal history will be revealed. This is actually the part of the story that I couldn't predict. A twist you definitely won't see coming! Some say chick lit can be predictable to a certain extant. However, that's not the case with Strings Attached, believe me!
I've heard great things about this book, and I must admit I was expecting a fun and lighthearted read. But the story of Quinn and George is BEYOND everything I thought it would be! The passion, that intense chemistry between George and Quinn, is something that will grab you from the start. I really liked both main characters, but (of course, I am a woman;) I ABSOLUTELY LOVED Quinn. He is definitely a character you won't be able to forget.
The normal girl meets a super celebrity - sounds almost like a modern version of Cinderella. :)
As for Mrs Baggot's writing style, I'm really fascinated by it and I'm pretty amazed how she managed to keep things between her hero and heroine so intense and interesting. And most importantly, I really CAN'T wait to read more from her.

When this book came in my email box (I adopted this author, sight unseen for Adopt An Indie month), I really didn't know much about it. I knew it was chick lit and the cover looked cool (yeah, I know, but I at least admit that I judge books by their covers!). So, I went into this without any real preconceived notions.

The writing is supremely clean and polished. It flows nicely and was obviously very well edited. The writing is supremely clean and polished. It flows nicely and was obviously very well edited. The author does an exceptional job of giving each character their own "voice" so that you knew who was talking at all times - none of that awkward "lost in the conversation" stuff going on.

Because the characters did have such distinctive voices, I really really really didn't like one of them. Quinn. I spent part of my time wanting to reach through my kindle and smack him around a bit and the other part cringing by his complete lack of sense. But, he's a hot rock star, so I guess we'll forgive him. But still... sheesh!

I'm not sure that it was entirely accidental that I didn't like Quinn. I mean, it added to the story because I DID care, but I just didn't like the guy. I really did like the main female character (George, of course!) though. If a bit of a silly "seriously this is not happening" character, she made an absolutely fabulous lead character with depth and .

Look, it's chick lit. It's not Pride and Prejudice. I go in knowing that I will probably be annoyed by the love story, but I read it because I love it (gosh, does that make ANY sense?). For me, it's escapism, I can be somewhere else for a while, usually somewhere fabulous with someone even more fabulous. This book delivers on this promise - and is topped with a really nice plot.

I had already figured out the big reveal at the end of the book, but the mini one before that I had NO idea was coming. *Hat tip* to the author - very few times does that kind of thing slip by me.

I would highly recommend this for chick lit readers. You'll enjoy it. But ya know, even though just want a quick escape read, you'll enjoy this too. It's a great story, give it a shot.(less)

Yup, I wanted to read a book because I really liked its cover. Always a fabulous reason to read a book, I’ll have you know. It became available for Kindle at the end of September so I downloaded it as soon as I could and decided to give it a whirl.

Strings Attached is miles better than the two Baggot books I read previously. The cover, the writing, the plot, it all seemed to be on a higher level than her other books I’ve read. The plot isn’t necessarily one that rubs me up the right way – George embarking on a relationship with the very much engaged Quinn Blake, but excusing my distaste at George’s complete lack of self-respect and feminism, and putting the whole affair thing to one side… Well, I enjoyed it. I mean, I didn’t agree with it. I don’t like it personally. But the plot is very enjoyable, despite my personal feelings. I may not agree, but I’m perfectly capable of reading a book about an affair and I felt Baggot got it right.

One thing Baggot likes to do is to make her novels a bit more over the top than most Chick Lit writers. I mean that in a good way. There were some plot lines that I saw coming and some I didn’t and one thing that connects them all, is that they’re all very soap-opera-ish. Mandy Baggot likes her drama and Strings Attached was filled with it. The biggest plot twist that came, I didn’t see coming at all. I’m not entirely sure it’s realistic per se but for the sake of the plot and because it was such an awesome twist (that I did not see coming!!!) I am well able to just believe in the magic of it all. I mean, I rarely get beaten by a plot and I usually have it all mapped out perfectly, so kudos to Mandy Baggot for surprising me. I even think I may have gasped out loud.

I found the characters fascinating. Despite the fact George is a disgrace to women – really, she is; she quite happily sleeps with a man who’s engaged, using the excuse that it’s “his problem not hers”(!) – I liked her. That probably makes no sense, but I dunno, part of me wanted George to just carry on, although another part of me wanted her to grow a pair and give an ultimatum. It was like a see-saw, was my relationship with George. The other members of Finger Food, the catering company George owns, were awesome. I loved Marisa, George’s employee and her mum Helen. I liked Adam, George’s brother, too. Quinn was more complicated. At times, he was a bit of a Jekyll and Hyde character. There were times he was nice and lovely, then there were times he went completely nuts. Swearing, getting angry… I mean, wow. It was strange at times and it did seem that his anger was a bit OTT at times and it really should have been dealt with. He needed anger management.

Strings Attached flowed nicely. Sure, some of it was a bit over the top and very Dallas-like/soap-opera-like with its pronouncements and the way things were uncovered, but overall I enjoyed the read. Strangely, in my Kindle copy, all the swear words are starred out which kind of… Well, it’s very strange. If you want to swear in a novel, you should either just do it or you just shouldn’t do it. Starring the words out is not going to cut it and I did rather inwardly cringe every time a swear word was uttered. I would fix that. But, yes, I really liked Strings Attached. Much more enjoyable than the other Baggot books I’ve read and it seems her writing has definitely gone up a level. I will be keeping an eye out for her next book and I’d definitely recommend Strings Attached.(less)

One follows the story of Caterer George Fraser who is highly ambitious and career-driven, holding her job and her aspirations in highest regard; that is until she meets rock star Quinn. Magnetically drawn together this rabid read takes its reader on a rollercoaster of a ride, as intense emotions and electric tension pulls you along in a whirlwind that contains a concoction of interesting characters. When George is then invited to the wedding of the century little does she know that her life is going to be turned upside down, as suppressed feelings and hidden secrets are revealed to end in such a dramatic climax that leaves you breathless. This is a story about aspirations and desires, attraction and the implications that love can bring.

With its distinctive and eye-catching, magnetic front cover and tantalizingly delightful storyline this is a book that I predict to be a top read within its genre and one that will be flying off the shelves! *I would like to take this opportunity of thanking Mandy Baggot for having her new book as a giveaway on ‘Dizzy C’s little book blog’ *as this book was an incredible read, which kept me awake into the early hours of the morning. Before I begin, I should clarify that the H/h names are Quinn & George (short for Georgina). I admit I had a little bit of difficulty adjusting to the heroine’s name, but oh well. Anyway, I decided to pick this up simply because I love books with rock star/celebrity Heroes; so you know I couldn’t pass this up. The beginning was a little slow, but once our heroine, George, meets Quinn, things started to snowball and I couldn’t put it down until I got my Quinn fix. At first it may seem like insta-love, and though both are very attracted to one another, trust me when I say that there is more to their story. As the story goes on, things from each other’s past start to reveal itself. I kinda had my own theories, and towards the end of the book, my suspicions were confirmed.

She was just George Fraser, caterer, black sheep, rock music loving jeans wearer; no one had ever wanted her like he seemed to want her.

When George was a teenager, she lived a pretty wild life. She fell in love and made mistakes; mistakes her mother has never forgiven her for. She turns her life around and now runs a successful catering business. One day she gets a phone call asking her to cater an after-party show; this is where she first meets Quinn.

Quinn Blake is a famous rock star. He can have any woman he wanted. When he first sees George, cue the instant attraction. There’s just something about George that makes Quinn want to get to know her. After the first after-party, George is hired to cater the band’s next four. This is the perfect time for Quinn to make his move.

George doesn’t understand the attraction, but doesn’t fight it. Even after she finds out he’s engaged, she’s still drawn to him. When she caved the first time, I admit, I was a little disappointed in her. However, when Quinn explains the situation, you kinda feel for the guy. He’s stuck in a modern day arranged marriage. He owes his future bride’s father a lot and cannot back out. Quinn is stuck, but he’s unwilling to let George go. So where do they go from here?

I really liked this story for the most part. Because of the twist in the end, I can safely say that this story isn’t one of your typical insta-love stories. Plus, most of Quinn & George’s relationship was kept hidden, so I couldn’t really live out the fantasy of dating a rock star…boo! I also wish that there was more steam in the book, aside from the sexy kisses, there wasn’t really anything else. Oh, what’s with censoring the word “fuck?” You’ll see it as “f**k.” Huh? Really? It is an adult novel, right, so there’s no need for the censoring.

I bought this book at a signing in Southampton Waterstones, it was lovely to meet Mandy in person and I was excited to get this book because I had heard good things about it.

Pretty much as soon as I started reading I was hooked, it was one of those books that makes you want to know more so I ended up in the situation where I kept saying ‘just one more page’. George lives in Basingstoke which isn’t far from where I live so I also liked the local element of it.

Pretty much as soon as I started reading I was hooked, it was one of those books that makes you want to know more so I ended up in the situation where I kept saying ‘just one more page’. George lives in Basingstoke which isn’t far from where I live so I also liked the local element of it.

The story is told from George’s and Quinn’s point of view which made it so much more enjoyable for me because I was keen to know what was going through Quinn’s mind at certain times throughout the book.

There were quite a few funny moments including a hilarious OAP party that had me in stitches as I pictured the scene and a very eventful bachelor/bachelorette party. There were also plenty of emotional moments throughout the book so I felt like all my emotions had been catered for (see what I did there).

George was a tough character with a troubled past, she was struggling with family drama and secrets so she put all of her energy into making her catering business successful. Even when she attracts the attention of Quinn she tries not to let her barriers down, quite unsuccessfully I might add.

Quinn was a typical gorgeous, womanizing rock star. When he first arrives in the story he is full of confidence but after meeting George he is left feeling confused and I loved the effect she had on him. As the story progressed Quinn showed a different side to his rock star personality and I have to confess that I did fall a little bit in love with him and his thoughtful but seductive ways. The forbidden love/lust between him and George was exciting and dangerous and I loved every minute of it!

Marisa was a favourite of mine, I loved the way she said exactly what she thought and how she brought humour to some otherwise serious moments. It was also interesting to see how she changed throughout the book, by the end I felt she had matured a lot – I love it when a character develops in a good way.

There was a big shock at the end, it was so deliciously unbelievable that it could only happen in fiction. This is actually one of the reasons I love fiction so much because anything can happen, I read these books to escape into a different world for a few hours and I certainly don’t want my escape to be too realistic, so this book fulfilled my need perfectly!

I would love to know what happens next for everyone in this story because I felt attached to them all by the end and didn’t want it to finish.

Enter Quinn Blake, he's an American rock star who has all of the women captivated for his incredible good looks and all of the men addicted to his musical talent andheart-pounding anthems. Quinn is giving a three-night concert series and his PA, Michael Lambert, contacts George about handling the catering. This is a big break for George and she can't turn it down. So she enlists the help of her staff, the witty and off-beat Marisa, the hysterical Helen, the dry Curly Shirley, and her brother and music major, Adam, to help her pull it off.

That night, the event goes off without a hitch. The food is inventive, the feedback positive, and Michael is practically brimming with enthusiasm for night two. Still, George's nerves are entirely out of control, though that's got nothing to do with work-related stress and everything to do with the enigmatic Quinn Blake.

Quinn is used to having women throw themselves at his feet. What he's not used to is being told "no". When he sees George and becomes hyper-aware of her, he decides that she is the woman that he will spend the night with. The only problem is that George is having none of it. Especially when she finds out that he's engaged to the self-involved, botox-injected Taylor who give us Americans a bad name.

I don't always pick up romance immediately, but having met Mandy through http://www.loveahappyending.com, she quickly be came the author that I wanted to read. Oh was this book worth it! Mandy Baggot's style of writing is highly enjoyable; her characters are hysterical and feel like the friends that we all wish we had.

Characters who are more than they seem initially, appeal to me. I was almost instantly going to write off Quinn Blake as a sexist, narcissistic slime, good-looking or not. Yet, page by page we get exposed to another layer of each of these characters. Add to that a quickly developing series of subplots that make you wonder where the story is going to end up. Strings Attached flows so well that you never want to put it down.

Whether you are a mother, wife, daughter, best friend, or even a husband or boyfriend looking for some lines to get you out of trouble with your significant other, Strings Attached is a wonderful read. With more books being added to Baggot’s shelf of offerings in 2012, Lady Baggot is clearly an author to watch.(less)

This was a nice read. I enjoyed it, the storyline was sweet, and the characters were too. Mentioning my favorite singer on the first page wasn't too shabby either.

Editing was very good also.

Remove a star if you hate when the plot is especially flimsy or obvious early in the story. Otherwise, the story moves quickly with a nice mix of romance, sex, and humor.
