The Fool's Gold series has fast become one of my favorites, so I'm always eager to read more. When Cameron McKenzie appeared in Only Yours, I was curious about him, so I was pretty excited to learn that this novella would feature him.

This was a pretty short story, but I still really enjoyed it. I think I would have loved it even more if it had been a full length novel because I could certainly see the potential, but it was a great, fast read with wonderful characters.

This is a novella that goes along with Susan Mallery's Fools Gold series. I think you could also read it as a stand alone if you wanted too. Carina or Rina as she is called in the book is a pet groomer that works out of Cameron McKenzie's veterinarian office. She also helps take care of his little girl. She falls in love with him but he's kind of oblivious and really just afraid to change anything. His wife left him when his daughter was a just a baby so trusting does not come easy. Carina's fri...more

Only Us is a novella story that is set in the town of Fool's Gold. It is a short easy read that is heart warming.

Carina comes early and gets Kaitlyn dressed and ready for school. After school she is dropped off and stays a couple of hours with Carina at work the...more

I decided to read this one because a lot of people like Susan Mallery's books, so reading this novella I could get an example of her writing. Also because it was free on amazon, and because it got me when I read the protagonist are a veterinarian and a pet groomer.

Christmas is coming and all Carina "Rina" Fiore wants to do is confess her love to veterinarian Cameron McKenzie. She has been in love with him since the day they met, and she already loves his daughter. She's rea...more

I love Susan Mallery! She never disappoints! Her books always end with a happy ending and always leave me in a great mood when done reading. I really enjoyed Only Us, and I think everyone sixteen and over can read and enjoy it too. It has just the right amount of romance without crossing the line.

Only Us has great characters that you can relate too and will instantly fall in love with. Cameron’s daughter is a very smart girl and many parts throughout the story she made me laugh out loud. Camero...more

Another Fool's Gold Hit!! This Sweet Holiday Novella gives us a look intot he life of Cameron, our very handsome Vet, and his "Friend" Rina, the pet groomer.

Rina has been in love with Cameron since the first day she saw him a year ago, but the love she has for his daughter is special to Rina and she doesn't want to do anything to threaten their relationship, so she knows that she can't tell Cameron that she is in love with him. Then she gains the courag...more

With the family factor involved, the steam rating for this romance is more on the PG side. However, what the story lacks in hot sweaty scenes, it makes up for with sweet romance.

Maybe it’s the influence of the holiday season, but the tension and hope of a happy ending for Cameron and Rina had me wrapped tighter than a gift under the tree. Cameron is a loving father who deserves to fall in-love; Rina is a caring and unselfish woman who is wo...more

If there’s one thing that’s made my 2011, it’s the fact I have found myself a brand new author to look forward to. Susan Mallery isn’t an author I’ve ever read until 2011, but when I saw Only Yours on Netgalley I requested it and it was an utterly amazing novel. I then read Only His and it’s just an awesome series and it’s so nice to have tried and loved Mallery. So I was thrilled to see a Christmas Short Story available set in Fool’s Gold and it was a really cute, really quick read.

Only Us is a good fast read, I was not aware that it is only 51 pages. I thought it was longer, to me it just jumped right in what was happening and then it was over. I was left wanting to know more. I am a big fan of Susan Mallery's books and I was hoping for something "better".

Only Us is about a vet named Cameron who is a single dad to his eight year old daughter, who fears falling in love, due to the fact that his wife left him and his daughter. Rina helps with the adoption agency for animal...more

A Fool's Gold Novella, meaning it is short, it was still a fun read that works in well with the other Fool's Gold books I've already read. I liked the characters, especially Kaitlyn, Cameron's daughter, and loved the verbal interactions between Rina and Kaitlyn, which were always a little off-the-wall and funny, getting a spurt of laughter for the unexpected. The relationship in this book is sweet and bittersweet, and I really, really didn't miss all the sex scenes, which, let's face it, become...more

There are times I wish that the books can be published quicker as I get confused with who is who with time and with reading so many other books.

Somehow, I didn't get remember the 2 main characters in this story but Fool's Gold series never fail to bring you back to where you left off and leave you feeling heartwarming. This story is rather short but certainly not disappointing in anyway.

Kaitlyn is just so sweet and in a way I felt she was trying to bring her dad and Rina together. The relationsh...more

Pet groomer Rina, wants to confess her feelings to the man she loves, Cameron McKenzie. She loves the vets good looks, caring nature and especially his devotion to his young daughter. Putting her heart on the line could cost Rina both her job and their friendship forever. Not to mention her relationship with his daughter. But when the same daughter, insists her daddy kiss Rina because she is standing under the mistletoe, its more than they both expect.
You can't go wrong with a Christmas story. A...more

Got the e-mail this was a Free Download so I decided it'd be OK to read without having read the series. Quick cute love story about 50 pg.
Carina Fiore is in love with her boss vet Cameron McKenzie and his 8yr old daughter. They are close since Cameron's wife left after their daughter was born. Rina is a combo: best friend, cook, babysitter, plus dog groomer at the vet office. She's irreplaceable but Cameron is afraid of another women leaving him & his daughter a while Rina is afraid of wast...more

This was free on amazon so I tried it out for the holiday travel plane trip. I liked a little story about a Vet and a animal groomer. I find children in stories often two dimensional but this little girl was sweet and needy; just like a real child. I can understand the reticence of the Vet, Cameron because love is tough and scary. At the same time, I understand that Rina can't stick around forever waiting (or getting rejected) so I felt like this story worked for me, plus it was a cute holiday t...more

While part of the Fool's Gold series this was a Christmas novella that could easily stand alone. My only criticisms would be 1 - it was way too short - there was so much more story that could have been told and 2 - you had to purchase it for an ereader (luckily I have a Nook). Susan shaped these characters with help from her facebook friends which is always fun. Although the story was short there were still tears and heartache along the way followed by romance. If you like Susan Mallery and her...more

Rather a short but endearing book. Rina has her heart set on finding love with her coworker and employer Cameron. Cameron unfortunately has other ideas. He thinks Rina is the perfect caregiver for his daughter and the perfect friend for himself and he dare not ruin that by becoming emotionally involved with her. Having been abandoned by his wife when his daughter was just an infant he has worked hard to protect both his daughter and himself from being hurt again.
Rina takes matters into her own h...more

Carina Fiore is a pet groomer who is in love with her vet boss, Cameron McKenzie. She is also in love with his daughter and hopes to be part of their lives. But Cameron isn't ready to get married. He might be in love with Carina, but he doesn't know for sure. He knows he's not ready to commit. But Carina's decided that she can't live without love and she's ready to leave the vet clinic in order to get away from the pain that's in her heart.
Good for a novella but nowhere near the rest of the Fool...more

For the most part, I enjoyed this story. It was what I needed at that moment. Short, quick, cute and sweet. It was predictable, but I didn't care, as it just made it lighter/fluffier. My only issues were with the characters. Mainly Rina. That woman puts the drama in drama-queen!

Her actions whenever she was with the hero just had me scratching my head and thinking "huh?" I'm not entirely sure if that's the result of my not reading all of the other books in this super-long series or not though. Ma...more

I'm a big fan of this series so it pains me to say that I was disappointed with this novella. I realize that a novella only allows for so much length but I felt as if I was speed reading through Rina and Cameron's relationship. More detail in the backstory leading up to the point in the novella might have been nice. As it was, it was sort of like taking a bite of a brownie before someone knocks your elbow and you drop the rest to the ground. A taste but not enough to be truly satisfying.

Carina is a dog groomer and a babysitter for Cameron the new Vet in town. There is just a slight problem, she is madly in love with him and his daughter. His past hurt won't allow him to admit his true feelings, for fear he and his daughter will lose more than they can survive.
This is a sweet novella about letting go of the past and moving forward. Even though it is only around forty pages, the characters and plot are well developed. This is the first Fool's Gold book I have read and I can't w...more

Damn it! I have to stop reading Susan Mallery's books in public; its so embarrassing to cry. I love the Fool's Gold series and this little nuggest (get it? Ha!)is a perfect Christmas gem. What could be better than a pet groomer who falls in love with a vetinerian (sp?) and his 8-yr old daughter? Well, a Pet Adoption event where every single animal is adopted (yay!), a little bit of the fluffy stuff and a Christmas confession. Good stuff.

My Review:

While I loved this little return to Fool's Gold, I think that Susan Mallery writes better full-length novels rather than novellas. This story wrapped everything up (i.e. the conflict in the story) just a little too easily and I had a hard time believing the sudden transition in Cameron's way of thinking. I liked the insight into Cameron and Rina's lives within Fool's Gold and by the appearance of a few Fool's Gold favorite characters, but that just wasn't enough to carry the story for...more

Was given to me to read by a friend, not quite what I thought it was going to be and WAY shorter than the story she described to me.... Not disappointed but it is what it is, a romance story. Not sure I'd recommend this unless you're reading all the other books (which I didn't - she didn't tell me it was part of a set either!)

Nice holiday story about Cameron, a single Dad veterinarian, his daughter, Kaitlyn, and Rina, the nanny. Rina is working on a holiday adoption event for ophaned pets. She is also getting frustrated because she has fallen in love with her boss and his daughter, but he doesn't follow her clues.

This book was an awesome addition to an already wonderful series. I loved seeing Carina and Cameron finally coming together.

There was a few uh oh's in the typing where Kaitlyn and Carina's names got mixed up and misspelled words but all in all nothing could deter me from reading this story!

This short, and I mean short, novella was a free download on Barnes and Noble today for Nook so I couldn't resist. Cute story about a vet finding love with a close friend...with the holidays as a romantic back drop. Probably wouldn't have paid for this, but it was a quick and cute read.
Booklover
Quick fun easy ready it was novella ,no issues at all between Carina-Cameron only thing that was in middle of their HEA was Cameron's hesitation to accept Carina's love but then he realises his love for her which he used to disguise it in name of friendship then we have confessions and HEA.
Lara
A cute story about a young woman in love with a man who is blind to romantic entanglements. Since she has become a part of his life, their coming to terms with his fear and her final willingness to look out for herself first is not without difficulty.
