First of Faulkner's books I've read. Fascinating writing, not always easy to follow, but incredibly clever. I marveled at his descriptions of people's thoughts. Makes me want to try this stream of consciousness writing about my own thoughts now that I know other people think this way too! ;-) Thought I'd warm up with this book of Faulkner's and then move on the The Sound and the Fury. Have heard it's a lot more challenging.

the language ranges from colloquial to king-jamesy. sometimes its completely overblown, and sometimes its transcendent. it seemed to me that the language was so much at the forefront that the fascinating story and characters were almost overshadowed. this was the first faulkner i've read, so i dont feel like i can say much of value beyond that initial impression.

Dear God, reading this book was like going to the dentist every day for a month. It's well written, but how much more about these people can this book possibly cover? I'm surprised there wasn't a section in the womb. I'm sure there could have been some interesting drama between fetus and umbilical cord.
I'd rather have left this for the grad students to ponder.

Great book, great story but tended to drag once in a while. The main stories were good but sometimes faulker writes exhaustive histories on characters who have nothing or litle to do with the story. But still I liked it

This book was a bit of a struggle for me (as English classes are not my strong points) but I do remember being very intrigued by this book. What it's about...well I'd have to go back and refresh my memory :)
