Könnte man zumindest meinen.

Her one thought was getting as close as she could to her name sake, as high as she could to see the stars. There were only curtain places where the sky, the stars, was visible over London for mush of the sky was missing. It wasn't a matter of simply not being able to see the sky; the sky was literally missing, gone, nonexistent. There was a vast nothingness where the sky should be, but for the moment she was consumed with going we're the sky still was, she had to see it.

Then two things happened...more

I wish this photo of the cover did it a bit more justice because it's odd and strangely beautiful, which perfectly sums up the story it enfolds.

Obviously the premise is really unusual, paranormal without any kind of power struggle or super powers per se. Fantasy, but not really. Romance, but not in the stereotypical YA way. Instead this story reads a bit like a modern fairy tale, poetic, both scary and full of unpleasantness but ultimately a beautiful tale that feels like someone is reading it t...more

The concept of this book had me interested from the beginning as it was not something that I had heard of before. I was a bit disappointed with it though.

The book is written from the point of view of a boy named David. He has run away from home and he moved to an awesome bookshop. I quite liked him, I thought he was caring and strong. Thankfully this book did not include the two words I have learned to loathe : insta-love or insta-attraction! Heaven and David do not meet under the most usual of...more

Firstly I have to say this book has more Doctor Who references in it then any other book I have read. David is using his preferred mode of travel across the rooftops of London when he literary stumbles across a beautiful girl named Heaven. Heaven informs him that she has just had her heart removed by two bad men. David of course doesn't believe her but takes her to the hospital because she seems unwell and that she does better in the cold then the warmth. It is at the hospital that David realise...more

I really enjoyed this book.
It is a charming fairy story that revolves around our protagonists David and Heaven.
Heaven is found on the rooftops of London by David, crying because her heart has been stolen. They are on a quest to escape from the thieves and retrieve her heart at the same time.
Their relationship, although develops quickly also develops realistically I thought. Especially when it came to each others reactions initially to such a strange and dreamlike situation. They each have the...more

This was such a thrilling story that sucks the reader into a whirlwind of mystery and fantasy that leaves you feeling for your own heartbeat. The adventure starts with page one, where the protaganist, David, discovers Heaven on the rooftops in London after she's just been attacked and had her heart cut out. From there, its a chaotic race to find the answers to what Heaven is and elude the two men who are out to finish the job. There are ghosts, hybrid creatures, whimsical fairy tales and a bloss...more

London.

I've been running around this book for weeks. Always reading in the back and never buying it. So yesterday I decided I wanted to get it and it wasn't in the bookstore. It was supposed to be there, but the guy in the store didn't find it, so he ordered it. Today I went there to pick it up and was told that it wasn't in the boxes that were delivered today, but that I should ask the nice man in the fantasy section, maybe he could find one of the two missing ones for me. Instead my uncles wifes sist...more

I really liked this book. It was exciting and the plot was amazing! I loved the way it was written; it was unusual. There were a few things I didn't really like though.
I didn't really feel I connected with Heaven but I did love her and David as main characters. Does that make sense? I think it was just because she was a bit...mysterious. I didn't really think that I knew that much about David either. Also, I didn't really like the fact that Heaven and Da...more

This was the first book I read from Christoph Marzi, and I'm impressed!

The book was beautifully written and told an amazing story! The book had depth and, in this case, I liked that David and Heaven didn't share their first kiss until half way through the book. They get to know each other first, even if it is just two days or so. But then again, they spent TWO WHOLE days together before they shared their first kiss.

David had such an interesting past and I loved that it made sense with how he act...more

I read this book in two days. One reason was to find out what was happening, the other to get it finished. I thought it was an OK read.

Heaven is a girl who loves the stars. One night she is on the rooftop looking at the stars when her heart is taken from her by two evil men. David loves using the rooftops to travel around London and falls over Heaven on that night. Together they try to unravel why she is still alive without her heart, why the men are still after her and why they wanted her hear...more

It's an ok book, really, but I was a bit disappointed. I had thought it was a kind of Gaiman-esque novel, but it wasn't. The book has a sort of forced and stilted feel to it. It seems like Marzi is trying too hard to do something he can't quite manage. And there were way too many similies. WAY too many. At one point I counted five weird similies that made no sense at all, in the space of a page. It might have something to do with the translation, but I doubt it. They were seriously distracting.

This is SO different and SO good. The narration is truly beautiful, vivid, descriptive and enticing. It is like reading a fairytale, only this one is set in a slightly alternative modern London.

Both Heaven and David a well-rounded characters that you care about. Miss Trodwood owner of The Owl and The Pussycat (this is actually a real bookshop) is very sensible but supportive in a way adults rarely are in other books. Add Mr Scrooge, the Raggedy Man and a wide awry of imaginative charact...more

Hi!

If you are reading this on my blog, then you might have noticed that I haven't posted a review in a while. This is because I have been procrastinating. YES!

This was my first ARC that I didn't win, so I was really hoping I'd like it. I did, but only marginally.

I was intrigued at the premise of the girl Heaven having no heart but being able to live. I really like David. He was a really interesting character and I especially like his background, as messed up as it is.

A mysterious and creepy man...more

I was really looking forward to reading this one, and it definitely didn't disappoint me. The novel eases you in gently and so subtly, that by the time the plot begins to get a little stranger, and darker things begin to unfold, you are already accustomed to the oddity of it all, wi...more

Heaven was a marvellous read with so many elements to it. I don't think that urban fantasy is an accurate genre for the book because it's just so many different things. The writing was beautiful and had unique ideas that I hadn't seen before in any other book.

One day when Heaven is out on the rooftops gazing at the starless skies the bad men come and steal her heart. I love how we learn about Heaven and David's past gradually though both their pasts are kind of... The plot for they book was a l...more

This was completely OUT THERE.

What do I mean by that? WELL, it's just, gobsmacking.

It's nothing like I've ever read before. The idea, plot, STORY was one of a kind, unique in the fact that the concept is so original.

I enjoyed this it was new, unpredictable and FRESH. I loved and I mean LOVED the ending. The ending the crucial part of a story for me. The book can be amazing but if the ending doesn't meet my exoectations the book may as well be terrible.

I had one big cheesy monster grin on my fa...more

Heaven was an exciting book for the very start. From the moment the first page I was engrossed into reading the rest of the book. While there were only a few people in the book i felt that the author really did make the most of the people that were in the book. Each character had something great about them that made them stand out. There were a lot of secrets around heaven and her mum and I was so eager to find out the truth. There was something really magical about this book the mystery oozed f...more

Heaven is a uniquely different read. It's difficult to sum up exactly what sort of book it is as it seems to me to be a little bit of everything, a love story, a thriller and a fairy-tale all wrapped up into one.

The story itself is set in London and has this magical feel to it in an almost Neil Gaiman-esque way (to be fair I haven't read an awful lot of his stuff so forgive me if I'm talking rubbish making this comparison). It's quirky and odd with heroes and villians and strange going ons but i...more

I loved this book for its individuality and ability to change a reader's perspective. It was filled with mystery and suspence and I enjoyed it heaps.

But I didn't like a couple of things:
1. The two protagonists had very awkward conversations that usually ended in a tense silence. I felt a little disappointed by the lack of character depth that it portrayed when it had so much potential.
2) There were a couple of unfinished plots. I don't know if there's a second book where it will all be finished...more

I loved the whole concept of the fairy idea.
Even though I liked this book, it didn't really get interesting until halfway through.
The way the story was executed could've been a lot better.
Most of the book contains the main characters, David & Heaven running about a lot.
Which is why I only gave it 3 stars.

I would recommend it to others, but with a slight warning - do you like geography?
Even though the author calmed down a lot through-out the book. I was constantly wondering whether he'd rever...more

David Pettyfer was just dropping off another package off for his employer that night he met Heaven. David finds travelling across the high rooftops of London easier than the hustle and bustle of the streets. One night he meets a strange girl named Heaven who claims that two men have stolen her heart. Against his better judgement David chooses to help the mysterious Heaven who seems to have an obession with the missing stars.

Schreibstil
