Secrets is a delightfully charming novel about starting anew. Jessica is a 25-year-old who has left home for reason unknown to move into the small town of Glenbrooke, Oregon, where no one knows her and she has a job lined up to begin teaching high school English. Her new life has quite a rocky start as she begins her new life being rescued from a car wreck and lying in a hospital bed with no insurance and no name to give while the only other person who can help her is a few floors above her reco...more

This was a fairly benign story. Enjoyable. I read it in a few hours. It was an easy read with a happy ending. A little too much religion in it for my taste. (Some of the characters are born again and it is pushed a bit in the book) I alos thought it was going to be more mysterious than it turned out to be. A feel good story for a rainy day.

"Secrets" is a contemporary, sweet romance novel. This novel had the most romantic car accident scene I've ever read. I'm half in love with Kyle, myself.

The characters were engaging, and the world-building and pacing were very good. The theme was about the burden of keeping secrets and what that can do to your life. Enough hints were given early on and throughout the book that I had a general idea of what Jessica's secret was, so I wasn't disappointed by it. (Generally, I've found that "hidden u...more

Author Robin Jones Gunn started out writing articles and children’s’ books, and then was persuaded to write teen fiction. Secrets is her first adult novel and it kicks off “The Glenbrooke Series.” Honestly, after I read the summary I thought the book would be decent but I wasn’t overly excited to read it. Main character Jessica is looking for a new life in a small town, but will her secret keep her from the new start she dreams of? Throughout the book I could not for the life of me figure out wh...more

I'm amazed. I have found another great author to add to my fast growing list of favorite authors. Robin Jones Gunn's Secrets is book 1 in her Glennbrooke series, which I am glad of, as I love to read a series in order. I have heard lots and lots of wonderful things about Robin Jones Gunn and I was not disappointed when I had the chance to review this for a blog tour.

This is the story of Jessica, who is trying to keep her past as just that: her past, so she runs to Glennbrooke for a fresh new st...more

Up until the last 50 or so pages I was content to leave the rating for this book at three stars (this is my second read through) and keep the book in my library.

Unfortunately, the book took a steep nose dive in the last 50 or so pages exacerbating every problem/inconsistency I had noticed early on.

Here are just a few of the flaws:
1. characters that immediately fall in love
2. overly perfect guy
3. stereotypical mean principal out to get the poor little teacher
4. tons of deus ex machina
5. totally i...more

"'Funny thing about hearts. They can be as big as the ocean. But there's only room in them to either be open or to harbor secrets." (Secrets)

Jessica Morgan left California to get a fresh start on life; Jessica Fenton is the new identity she used to protect herself. But protect herself from what?

Jessica attended church when she was young but after her mother died the family stopped going. In the friendly town of Glenbrooke she was around people who have trusted Jesus as their personal Lord and Savior. It seemed she wasn't used to being around kind, friendly people and I was guessing that had something to do with the reason why she ma...more

I was introduced to Robin Jones Gunn when I had the pleasure of reading her Sisterchicks series and now I’m pleased to know that I can continue to enjoy Robin’s writing in the Glenbrooke series. Secrets as the title asserts is about secrets – how they can destroy, how they can kill and ultimately how letting go of secrets can set one free so they are able to live the life God intended for them to live. As the book begins Jessica is mad at God – she can’t seem to understand why a loving God would...more

I have picked up this book several times and each time I start reading it I'm hooked (actually read it several months ago and just found it again on my bookshelf).

Jessica Morgan is on the run. She didn't do anything bad but circumstances are such that she has traveled a ways to accept a teaching job and on the way she has a very bad accident. After the accident she meets paramedic Kyle who helped her after the accident and has taken it upon himself to get her car towed to a mechanic, find her pu...more

A Christian romance book without the squicky nastiness that other romance book parade on the covers and elsewhere. Good and clean. It was a little boring in parts and I felt for as much as a deal as the author made about Jessica needing her name to be changed and a new life and NO ONE knowing her real name; the reason for all that was lacking in so much. I liked Jessica, Kyle and Teri as characters. Overall though, If you're are looking for excellent Christian romance\adventure\suspense; may I s...more

The first book of the Glenbrooke series was an auspicious start. Jessica Morgan can only see one way to a future where she is not under her father's thumb, and it means running away from her past and starting over in small town Glenbrooke Oregon. She has arranged for a teaching job there, and thinks she will be completely happy. However, unfortunate events when she arrives in Glenbrooke make it a little more difficult than she had planned out. The man who hired her is in the hospital and unable...more

When I first looked at this book, I was not really sure what to expect. I was not overly excited to read it, nor was I putting it off. But I picked up this book this morning, yes I said this morning and I was intrigued on the first page. I am not kidding! Within the first two pages I was 100% hooked on this book. I will not tell you why, as I do not want to spoil it for you, but I will tell you that my attention was caught completely and I did not...more

Secrets is a wonderful book about starting over and learning how to trust God in everything. Jessica is trying to escape her father's overbearing nature.
