Shelly is struggling with life. Her job is downsizing and she is forced to move back home with her parents. As she builds a relationship with her sister Meredith she begins to put her life back together slowly. “Clouds” is the fifth novel in The Glenbrooke Series by Robin Jones Gunn, published by Multnomah Books. Shelly Graham and Jonathan Renfield grew up next door to each other and were fast friends. They even rigged a bucket on a rope between their upstairs bedrooms to send things back and forth to each other. Shelly grew up wanting to see the world and decided that she would be an airline hostess. Jonathan intended to go to college and because he was a little older than Shelly, was scheduled to lea...more
Clouds signify many different things to different people. Some folks may consider them a nuisance to a day of catching some sunshine on a sandy beach. Others may view them as beautiful mountains of hope. Still others might look up at an overcast sky and see a comforting blanket that reminds them of marshmallows bobbing up and down in their mom's homemade hot cocoa.
In Clouds, flight attendant Shelly Graham thinks "no human could mar their perfection." (page 50) They offer her a subtle reminder of...more

Once again I loved curling up with the characters in the Glenbrooke Series from Robin Jones Gunn. After turning down a marriage proposal from Jonathan, Shelly leaves home and enters into school to be a flight attendant. She learns the career she has chosen has left little time for God and other real relationships. When she learns her company is downsizing, she returns home hoping for a better schedule out of a smaller airport. Little did she know, God had other plans for her future.

This was a difficult book for me to make a decision on. I love this author and this book has some fabulous descriptions and character development. Still, after reading the rest of this series, I didn't feel that this book was quite as exciting and endearing as the others. It was still worth reading, but wasn't my absolute favorite.

Reading a Robin Jones Gunn book is like catching up with old friends, and this one is no exception. Shelly and Jonathan were childhood best friends who fell in love in high school. After graduation, an argument leaves them to find their own ways, apart from each other. Now, five years later, Shelly moves back to her parents' house and old memories come flooding back. When a chance encounter halfway around the world brings them back in contact, is this a sign they are meant to be?

Jonathan and Shelly grew up together attached at the hip as the best of friends and eventually high school sweethearts. When the two broke up, they both split separate ways – Shelly to a flight attendant school and Jonathan to college in different states. Coming back home to where she grew up after a sudden change of plans in her life, Shelly can't help the flooding of memories from her child...more

Even though this is number 5, this is the first of The Glenbrooke Series that I have read. I'm definitely going to read the other books now too! This was a quiet read and one filled with forgiveness, family and love, both of others and God. I felt it moved along and didn't get bogged down in details, but gave enough background information to grasp the bond of Shelly and Jonathan, while sharing how they would eventually find one another again. I enjoyed reading the middle which was set in Germany...more
I love Robin Jones Gunn's work, but I had not read any of her Glennbrooke series. When I saw Clouds available on Blogging for Books I knew I had to take it. I usually request ebooks when doing reviews because I don't have unlimited space to store books in my house, but this is Robin Jones Gunn, so I requested (and received) a paperback copy.

I enjoyed this book very much. It is a quick, easy and fun read.
I had to keep reminding myself that Shelly was only in her mid-twenties. Everyone around her has these amazing jobs so you can easily forget ages. I felt such naive and immaturity from her in some situations. There are times I just want to scream, "What are you doing? Just say something!" Assuming things just brings these characters more pain then they need. There were also so many coincidences...more

First off, I loved the names of the two main characters, Shelly and Jonathan. I don't know, maybe it's a personal thing, but to me "Shelly" just kinda rolls off the tongue in a great way. And I can't remember the last time read a book with the main character named "Jonathan," so it was a really great pick.

I love Shelly and Jonathan's story. This is one of the few in the series I have read over and over again, as there's just something about these characters that keeps me coming back. Or maybe it's that Shelly is a stewardess and I always had a secret desire to make that my career.
I thought the ending is one of the best in the series. This one especially lends itself to being read as a standalone, thought discussions of secondary characters won't mean as much without the previous books. A good gen...more

Here is the low down. You must try the Snickerdoodle recipe in the back of the book. I did and they were a hit with Dear Hubby. Reading another Glenbrooke book is like going home. You know these folks, they are like family and friends. Believable while having the daily issues we all struggle with. Most of all this one has the ending I wanted. Life does not always come out all tied up in a neat package. Sometimes we hurt, but if we trust in God there is a plan for us and it is a good one.

Jonathan and Shelly grew up together.
They were childhood sweethearts and after being apart for five years, they ran into one another on the other side of the Earth just before Jonathan had married to another woman.
It's a romance novel with a Christian theme.
It's a clean and sweet read.
Anyone would love to read this.

I never read anything from Jones Gunn before. I liked it and can see myself reading more of her stuff. Very simplistic I kind of knew what was going to happen but it's the details that brought about the obvious that hooked me into continuing to read it. I liked that the Christianity didn't sound preachy but it sometimes felt forced.
I have been reading this series for the last two years. I really enjoy these books. They are romance novels done with a christian theme. They are clean and sweet. This one drove me crazy though. The main characters chased each other all over the place and it never seemed like any of them would ever get it together. It was good though.

Robin’s first grade teacher wrote on her report card, “Robin keeps the entire class entertained at rug time with her stories.”
Even with such an early affirmation, Robin didn’t think much about becoming a writer during high school or college. She was more intrigued by the idea of traveling to foreign lands and telling people about God’s love.
