I put this book on hold from the library not because I knew what it was about or that it had been recommended to me, but because I knew that they’d made a movie out of it…and the movie was French. I have a soft spot for French movies . But because the movie isn’t available at my library, I had to read the book first. And now, I have a soft spot for French books.

I haven’t read a book in years that has captured my attention so well. From the very first sentence, I was hooked. For the first… twelve...more

Nunca em todo o livro a capital francesa é saturante o...more

It is actually strange book and it is the first book that read which most things are about my country. Thats why it was a different experience for me.

The fiction is amazing. The story ends up in one of the most beautiful places in İStanbul.
The caracters are pretty admirable.

Jean-Christophe Grangé’s The Empire of the Wolves is harrowingly graphic. A secret right-wing Turkish sect is busy butchering its way through the textile-worker community in Paris (all trafficked women from Turkey). The wife of a senior bureaucrat is having violent flashbacks that lead her towards paranoia and breakdown. The policeman investigating the serial killings is forced to rope in a retired colleague, a man who has been well-known for his efficiency in keeping crime down in the Turkish q...more

Translated from the French, this thriller opens with a rather cliched hook (amnesia) but it is done very well. Memory loss is an overused conceit in fiction (and soap operas), but when done in a fresh way, it works very well to immediately create a connection between reader and character. And this book does have a fresh feeling with its extensive detail, memorable characters and a shifting perspectives. But, the book offers too many points-of-view and the book suffers from a sort of self-inflict...more

Horrific serial murders of Turkish women, a woman who is starting to wonder if her husband is who he says he is. An exciting thriller with lots of twists and turns. Not your typical mystery well worth a read.

3,5 stars

In this book, there's a lot of mystery waiting for you - even when you think you know what's going to happen, you'll always end up surprised. I liked the way how the random pieces of information conected to each other and how more and more secrets have been discovered. The reason why I gave the book only 3,5 stars is that the ending seems to me like the author couldn't wait to finish the book HUGE SPOILER (view spoiler)...more

So far the book is really interesting. The book is splitting into two stories that will eventually reunite for the plot. There is a woman who is losing her memory and suspects her husband of playing a role in her losing her memory. There is also a police officer who decides to bring a loose cannon out of retirement to help him seek out a serial killer in a neighborhood of Paris where no one talks to the police. The serial killer is only killing redheaded women. This fact wasn't released to the p...more

Grangé takes us far afield in his stories and this is no exception.

I was very excited about this as it was written by an author whose book Crimson River was made into a pretty good French horror movie with Jean Reno. However, the translation was so awkward that reading it was painful. I couldn't read but a few chapters before I put it down in frustration. Maybe I'll come back to it some day and have something good to say about it.

Justement.

It was really hard for me to decide whether to give 4 or 3 stars.
Firstly, he plot is really powerful and you form a certain bond with the main characters.

I read this book in English and I feel that the translation was bad. At some points the writing language kind of disturbed me and that was a strong setback for me.

Overall, it is a worth-reading book.

This was a very fun read. I can't say too much because it will give away most of the book, but I really enjoyed the way the author wrote and I thought the storyline was captivating enough. I finished it in 3 days! Not a difficult read but fun and enjoyable.
