My only critique of this book is that it needs a more transparent title. The substance is SO great but I think its probably been overlooked because people don't know what its about. Pearson uses first hand accounts to explore the work women in the Church have done to advance women's rights. It is SO inspiring to learn how involved the 19th century women were in first wave feminism. I have so many passages marked. Another must read for Mormon women from Carol Lynn!
Laura Craner
This book is the quintessential book of LDS women's feminism. Really. Pearson quotes many early RS leaders and adds a lot of her own insight, and the fact is LDS women are talking about the same issues in many of the same ways decades later. It was actually fairly fascinating and surprisingly comforting. This is one I should blog about.
This is an amazing volume, as is much of Carol Lynn 's writings. She researched an early Mormon women's magazine "The Women's Exponent" and in this volume tells stories of the great women she found published in it.

In fourth grade, in Gusher, Utah, I won four dollars in a school district essay contest on “Why We Should Eat a Better Breakfast.” And yes, this morning I had a bowl of my own excellent granola, followed by a hike in the hills near my home in Walnut Creek, California.

In high school I began writing in earnest. I have now in my files a folder marked “Poetry,
