This is horrible!
"You are...beautiful, rich, famous, and I am a man from Mexico". This sums up this book that reads like a white man fantasy of having an obsequious servant who worships him, his employer, who has no sense of self and esteem that is not dependent on his desire to please, who loves devotedly and allows his body to be used without demanding fidelity, who requires saving - a rescue of which he is totally worthy, being the noble savage, send money home to Mexico, moral man of colour...more

While I could enjoy complicated stories, in general I prefer stories that offers simplicity. Stories where the characters face challenges, but take life as it is without entering prolonged angst. Stories where characters are presented opportunities to cheat but choose not to. Stories where dreams come true. This is why I like this novella about Jamie, a Mexican housekeeper, and Will, an actor.

A sweet and mostly uncomplicated story about a Mexican immigrant and housekeeper/cook who gets a job for a famous actor and then falls in love with him. I kept expecting this story to take a bad turn, probably because the voice in this story (by Jaime, the housekeeper/cook/all around sweet, honest man) was very strong and he was quite self-depricating in many ways, from knowing that he was a poor immigrant seeing a wealthy and famous man, to events in the past that caused him to move to...more

I rarely do written reviews but I felt so strongly about this book that I just had to. Let me first start with the false lure of a promising storyline that throughout the book, the author failed to deliver. I kept waitng to get a clearer picture of the MC's but it never happened. The author then proceeded to trot out just about every cliche m/m romance trope and managed to bungle each. The author also wrote one of his characters as a Mexican man recently relocated to the U.S. and it did not tran...more
Once again, Theo Fenraven delivers a story told with great attention to characterization without getting bogged down in purply description. This story is unlike so many in the m/m genre because it's not explicit, and it doesn't need to be. The tenderness between the MCs was so endearing, and there's very clear respect there. This book is not filled with a bunch of angst or drama for the sake of drama, and it's still a good story without being saccharine. Well worth the read.
2.5-3*
This is IMO a totally angst and conflict free book.
Despite one MC being a famous movie star and the other his housekeeper from Mexico, they fell into a relationship and come out to the world and all is well. No negative repercussions at all. It is definitely a Cinderella type tale.
One thing that kept pulling me out of the story was that Jamie, the narrator of this story ,never even after many years in the USA spoke in contractions.

A sweet short story about a housekeeper who works for a celebrity and ends up falling in love with him.
Overall a nice sweet story but some of the Spanish terminology wasn't working for me. There was no translation of what some words meant and I'm not at all fluent or knowledgeable of some of the terms used. It pulled away some of the enjoyment of the story for me.

Cons...Asking price. Seriously. $5 for a nooner. Then we get to the writing style. At first I thought the housekeeper didn't have English as his first language because of the stilted & over-formal language. No one says "do not" instead of "don't" etc in their internal dialogue. I think I will give this one a miss.
