This series is just pure excellence.
When starting the book, I was pretty sure that this book would be like most of the books I've read - boring, cliched. However, when I read the first book, I got hooked, I couldn't stop reading. I sacrificed my sleep to finish the book, and I finished the whole series in about a week.
This series is completely action-packed - what makes it special. Action, action, action. You'll never get bored. The twists and turns are just amazing. What I like most is the rom

What kept me going from book to book (total 6) in a span of 3 and half days, you ask me? DIMITRI. DIMITRI. DIMITRI.
So do I have a new crush (more like gut wrenching- overpowering-heart aching- obsessive-unrequited-love)? YES. Do I want to re-read this series? YES. . Although I wanted to smash away the books, whenever the annoying love triangle was thrown in the mix. Do I want to read more paranormal fiction stories? YES. Do I want to read the bloodlines series? HELL NO. Thank you author, for VA,

This is one of my favorite series of all time. I freakin love Rose, the main character. She's kick ass and awesome and the series is so amazing.
My rank of favoritism:
1) Blood Promise (book four)
2) Last Sacrifice (book 6)
3) Spirit Bound (book 5)
4) Shadow Kiss (book 3)
5) Frost Bite (book 2)
6) Vampire Academy (Book 1)
Lemme explain.
I love the fourth book the best probably because of the hero's journey. She goes all the way to Russia, where she has to fight Dimitri and fight h

This series was absolutely amazing. Possible the best books I have ever read.
Richelle Mead's amazing writing never failed to keep me on the edge of my seat (or bed, or bus, or car or everywhere my kindle and I have travelled!), and I was constantly waiting to know what was going to happen next.
I have never become to emotionally attached to characters as I have to Rose, Dimitri, Lissa, Christian, Adrian just to name a few. These characters have been brought to life so beautifully, and will defi

This isn't the regular flowery high school paranormal romance but darker than that. The series starts out good and interesting and as it progresses the plot gets more complicated. The characters like Lissa and Christian are okay, though not that extraordinary despite their awesome powers. I liked the ingenuity of the narrative, making us follow both Rose's and Lissa's adventures at the same time.
Now to more important stuffs:
Despise is a strong word but it is close to what I do Rose. She is not a

You know the feeling when you read a book, finish it and feel like you don't know what to do with your life anymore?
I didn't either.. until i finished this collection's last book.

When i first started this, i said wow, another book about vampires, hooray.. However, I couldn't stop reading!!! I sacrificed my sleep, and space in my luggage insisting to carry book no. 4,5 and 6 all way to Greece, rather than more clothes because i couldn't have waited until my return to know what's gonna happen nex

Who recommends this series? Not sure on whether to start it!
I've noticed this thing about Mead's books; the first halves are boring and slow, but the second halves are bloody amazing so that's why I have so many mixed feelings about this series. :/
So the first 3 books were pretty good! The last three books were quite disappointing...:(
I'm very doubtful about Mead's spinoff series' Bloodlines...

I was a little late to the show when it came the Vampire Academy Series, I purchased a box set and spread out the Rose and Dimitri goodness for about a year. I have to admit that it was the film adaptation that inspired me to pick up this collection of books. The tongue-in-cheek witty one liners and kick-ass heroine had me sold instantly.

The film didn’t get that much praise, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. I loved the silliness and mythology of the world, though it was easy to see where it failed.

Vampire Academy Series by Richelle Mead- review

“Juliet had it easy; she never had to kill Romeo”

“My death will not be penciled on someone’s calendar.”

Vampire Academy student and dhampir Rose Hathaway has led a normal life surrounded by vampires. They live amongst us. They feed on us. There are two races of vampires walking our world. I loved Buffy when I was young, and even now (when I am OLD, 42!) I enjoy YA novels and still really like vampire reads. This was a little different than others I've been familiar with (a complete vampire society, different types of vampires) but I really liked it.

The first book was actually the most difficult to get into. It had a very abrupt start and was a little hard to understand until it explained some things later on. All the remaining books did have quite a bit of repetition (which would

I read the series in 2 days because it was, well, gripping!
There are many clichés - the dark, brooding, stronger-than-everyone else, honorable heartthrob, the volcanic heroine, and goddess save us: High School -
many shortcuts and things I would probably have found highly illogical if I hadn't been reading so quickly,
as well as somewhat annoying world foundations/rules; 'good' vampires who wield magic vs 'bad' vampires who are, well, VAMPIRES? The 'reasons' the heroes cannot ever ever be toget

Um, WOW. This book series was FREAKING amazing. I loved it so much, and Ive read the whole series cover-to-cover four times.

Good Points:

~Adrian. I really don't think that needs elaborating. Admit it. We all want one.

~The storyline. This was so well-thought out and unique. It really was one-of-a-kind. No cliche love stories<3

~Action. It had some kick-ass fighting scenes that rivalled that of violent books. It was fast-paced, descriptive and amazing.

~Lissa. She's an amazing best friend, just li

This is arguably my favorite book series. The first half of the series, which takes place so heavily in a high-school setting, portrays teenagers in their every-day interactions so well, even though the teens in this book aren't even human. Richelle Mead never failed to make me laugh, smile, cry, or curse. The story itself is spellbinding from start to finish and anyone who can stand the vampire genre should definitely give it a shot - especially because the mythological material dealt with is s ...more

I started this book series after enjoying the movie and wanting to find out what happens. I had been looking for another series to fall in love with and the books sucked me in. I don't usually read YA novels, as I usually can't relate to the main characters or their choices, but don't let Vampire Academy's YA status fool you. The protagonist Rosemarie is a complex character and her relationship with those around her and how she views the world grows throughout the series. You can see her grow fr ...more

I picked up this series because I was interested in fantasy featuring Slavs, particularly romance featuring Slavic male love interests, and someone recommended it to me when I was presenting on the topic at a conference. So my take on it is partly that of a fan of the genre, and partly that of an academic doing research on the topic. Since I'm hoping to publish on the topic in an academic journal at some point, I may have to be sort of coy about some of my thoughts in order to avoid "publishing" ...more

Rose Hathaway and Lissa Dragomir are not your typical teenage girls, they are members of the Moroi world, vampire royalty who are protected by their half-human, half-vampire guardians, the Damphir. Lissa is one of the last members of her royal family after a car crash kills her parents and brother. Rose is determined to keep her safe as her best friend and a damphir.

When they are dragged back to the Vampire Academy, what will happen to Rose and Lissa as they fall in love, face other vampires int
I think my bookshelf tags speak for themselves in identifying this series. There could be more added, but, I'm sure there has already been tons said about Vampire Academy.

First off, I was never going to read this.

For one thing, book series' are the bane of my existence. I started reading the first one on Saturday. I completed the sixth one on Wednesday. A long series usually takes up all my time because I can't put it down. It consumes me. This is a problem I have. Who needs sleep. Am I right?

I really really wish I could give this series 3.5 or 4 stars because Books 1-3 are top notch 5 star books but then Books 4 and 5 are more like 4 stars and the sixth book is such a mess. The relationship between Rose and Lissa is great; it's one of the few great female-female friendships shown in YA lit. They share a bond, rather than just sharing gossip in 4-5 scenes. I would say it borders on homosexual, but why put labels?

The idea that the good vampires have stupid teen drama, and live in secl

This is a great series to read. I really enjoyed the characters and the problems they faced, and was happy to have waited to read it - when I finished the fifth installment, I took my daughter to the grocery store and saw "Last Sacrifice" on display, so it was the perfect timing! I didn't have to wait.

For me, the best part about this was that the characters - Rose, Lissa, Dimitri, and Christian - weren't "fake". They face real problems that teens and young adults (NA?) would face, human or night

I was sceptical at the beginning: I saw the movie and ... It was nice but that's it. At least it made me want to read the books which I did. I didn't expect to enjoy those as much as I did let alone read the entire series but I did.

The first book is nice but is by far the less entertaining of the series. But if you can get through with the first book you'll find that the books get better and better as Rose, the main character and narrator, evolves and grows up.

Well structure character composition. Great insightful and descriptive writing. These books are swift read and not even once I got tired or bored of any of them. Constant action and how the story is unraveled to reader is simply outstanding.
Although vampires are somehow childish and this story sits well withing genre the writer did excellent job at keeping things within worlds rules and boundaries. It is an unique creative imagination of the writer that presents the story in a way that it can be

Vampire Academy (Vampire Academy #1) - 4 stars

Lissa, a vampire, and Rose, a Dhampir, are on the run. Now caught by the guardians and forced to go back to the academy they both have to face what they were running from. By sharing a bond rose is able to help Lissa and keep her safe but rose finds herself questioning if that would be enough.

I enjoyed the progress of the whole series. I only had PDF copies when I read them and I hated reading PDF on a tablet. This was way before I realized how amazing e-book formats were compared to them. But, to my surprise, I was able to finish reading.

Now, if I enjoyed it, why just two stars?

I personally don't like Rose. I'm not here to judge whether or not Mead writes well, but I think it would have been better if the story was in third person POV (or maybe someone else's?). I can't remember how
