Look, I'm not a "vampire" fan, and would not have picked up this title had it not been for the encouragement of a few folks. And the stellar reviews it has so far received helped nudge me to click on the "buy it now" button. And I'm so glad that I did! Peter Giglio's vampiric tale is so well told that I didn't mind sailing on a boat that has, for me anyway, run itself aground. Mr. Giglio did well to avoid emphasizing the standard cliche's, and instead set about creating a cast of characters impressively rich in depth, and personality. Not too many writers can achieve, or at least maintain, what Mr. Giglio has accomplished here; that being, to keep the reader's attention, and raptly so. I'm looking forward to reading more of Mr. Giglio's work!

I have never read anything by this author before and was a little hesitant, as my all time favourite vampire author is Anne Rice and I tend to think the genre has been overdone recently. There was something different that attracted me to this story though, and I'm so glad I went with it. Thorougly enjoyable read with some original twists and a super ending. Needless to say, I won't hesitate when the next book by this author comes around! Excellent.

I found a lot to like in A Spark in the Darkness -- interesting, well-developed characters; great pacing; vampires that bite; excellent writing; and thrills. It's a short read but satisfies fully. If you've grown weary of angst filled vampires and miss the monsters of yore, give this a try. I did, and now I give A Spark in the Darkness 5 stars.
