Colleen Thompson's first book for Dorchester, Fatal Error, launched a line of fast-paced, steamy romantic suspense and was a 2005 RITA award finalist and winner of the Texas Gold Award.

"First, you gotta find the perfect bottle," the Firebug rasped. "Too hard, and it won't bust when it hits the floor. Too thin, and it explodes on impact with the wi...more

Firefighter heroine is resisting her asthma diagnosis & its repercussions re: her well-loved job & goes to public-clinic doctor hero, who's her old childhood friend, for help. Both become coincidentally embroiled in an arson-murder with the hero as its focus.

Thompson writes well but I found her detailed writing & characterization distracting from the book's emotional pace. In fact, I found this book NOT emotionally engaging. It's like watching the news versus a movie...and I prefer my...more

Ask anyone who knows me and my reading habits, and they'll tell you that romantic suspense is my favorite genre-and it's authors like Colleen Thompson who keep feeding my obsession. Being fortunate enough to read Fatal Error, her 2004 release that went on to become a RITA finalist, I was anxious to get my hands on FADE THE HEAT. Let me tell you, you cannot possibly go wrong with this book. From heart-pounding action-adventure to immersion into the world of the hero and heroine to palm-sweating, ...more

This book was difficult for me to rate. The plot was interesting, but I was never able to completely buy into the main characters, Jack and Reagan. I felt like Ms. Thompson never fully developed any of the characters in this book and the readers ends up not caring nearly enough about any of them. Plus, and I know this isn't quite fair to Ms. Thompson, I have read one too many books in a row full of mean people saying and doing hurtful things. People who are suppose to be friends and even family....more

This book is very good to read. It's about a girl, who's a firefighter and a guy who's a doctor that gave medical attention to immigrants. Their romance has developed as the plot continue to rise, which they tried to find the arson who blew up the house and the fire department. Want to know why? Read the book!

An enjoyable read with many elements I like in my reading but it didn't have that "Wow" factor that makes a 5 star for me.

Recommends it for: Everyone
I believe the title may mis-represent this book because the heat never faded. (No, really, I love the title). Explosive, sizzling, just another Colleen Thompson book that I couldn't put down. The perfect balnce of romance and suspense as always.

I did enjoy the characters and the suspense of the story, but there was one aspect that bothered me. For the author to include a character who had so much stage time, including a physical assault and slandering of her character at their workplace, and then not have any hashed out resolution of this in the end was frustrating. If it was so unimportant, then why did the author include so much of that particular storyline in the book. I hate when authors do that.
