Thanks Goodreads First Reads and Rosalie Pope!!! Really looking forward to this book!!
This book was an absolute pleasure to read, but difficult in the beginning for me. I had to put it to the side for a bit, because substitute in the name of my Belle for Xena and you could be describing the same little warrior defender-best friend. And to those of us who realize that our evolving selves in this world, our place, our very awareness of self and the true nature of what we could eventually be, was o...more

Kaie so I won this book via a Goodreads giveaway. I received the book this afternoon in the mail and I haven't been able to put it down. I just finished reading it and I loved it. Reading the stories made me laugh, cry and smile the whole time I was reading. What made it extra special for me is that the author signed the book and also addressed to signature to me personally. I would recommend this book to anyone who is a pet owner and/or an animal lover.
What a lovely book! Any pet owner will be able to indetify with and enjoy the stories told in this book. Some are funny - some are sad - all are heartwarming. A great read - especially for pet owners who have pets that have passed on... but this book is for everyone! Highly recommended!

I enjoyed reading this book. However, I felt it was a little disjointed. The first two or three dogs the author describes were owned at about the same time. But, then she writes about the dog her family owned when she was a child and her mother's more recent dog. While I understand that all of the dogs had an impact on her life, I felt that some of the later stories were not as funny or heartwarming as the first couple of chapters. Overall, I love how passionate the author is about the relations...more
"Puppies..." is a sweet memoir and touching tribute to the writer's beloved friend Zena. Every pet owner has been, or will be, in the position when they lose their pet and it is never easy. But Roe puts her grief into words and it becomes a loving remembrance, which seemed to inspire her to write about other pets her family had the pleasure to know. By the end of the book, I felt I should have written some of the memories of my own pet experiences, though I do think hers are funnier than average...more
