One of my favorite books of all time.
I think that this is the first book I read which featured Jewish characters but wasn't written just for Jews. And it also has a really cool plot.
Two Jewish kids town is burned down in Medieval England while they are away, picking strawberries. From there they are thrown into an adventure with Robin Hood.

I have said it before and I will say it again – the biggest disservice American teachers do to their students is to teach history in a vacuum. Students are rarely given any context before the WWII unit rolls around. (See: Six Million Paper Clips).

This book is an intermediate reading level - a chapter book, but with one or two illustrations per chapter – in a very medieval wood-cut style, and the language is definitely geared towards a young reader with a few hints and nudges sprinkled throughou
