The illustrations are so cute and have so much personality. Alessandra Sorrentino did an amazing job with pictures. With the amazing pictures and fabulous writing, I loved reading My Monster Burrufu!

[A copy of this book was given to me in exchange for an honest review.]

This book is about a girl of seven, Olivia, who moves to a new house, a house that has a secret which she stumbles across one day - the secret being a resident monster, Burrufu. She and he then becomes friends, and what seven-year-old girl doesn't want a big, friendly, furry monster to cuddle?

I liked Olivia's wide-eyed enthusiasm and inquisitive nature so typical of a little girl, and which I think would appeal to your typica...more

This is a great book for young readers, or for old readers reading to young listeners. Although I did feel the language in the book had words or was sometimes at a level maybe a little above the young reader it seems to be intended for (ie "a bit bohemian", "Borsalino hats", etc). I gather the book was translated and maybe it lost a little in the translation or maybe some words are more normal to those young readers to which the original language was written.

But the story is a really cute and f...more

I won this book from the first reads program on Goodreads.
My Monster Burrufu is about a little girl and her best friend Burrufu. Olivia is 7, independent and loves cookies, she doesn't have any friends because the other kids think she's weird. Olivia and her dad just moved to a new house away from the noisy city because he needs peace and quiet as an author. One night Olivia leaves cookies on the counter and sees a monster eating them. Monsters are good luck so Olivia wants to become friends...more

This is an illustrated beginning chapter book with 10 chapters in 88 pages.

I loved the illustrations. Great pictures!! So charming! They added immensely to the story, and will be especially appreciated by children who are just beginning to read chapter books.

I very much enjoyed the story; it’s delightful. There is humor and pathos and suspense, and it’s just a fun story.

I had some laugh out loud moments, particularly when Burrufu the monster was the scared one and when he was trying to be fright...more

My Monster Burrufu is a charming book about a young girl, Olivia, and her monstrous discovery!

Geared toward ages 8-12, My Monster Burrufu is adorable and I think perfect for reading to younger child as well. This chapter book already features an inviting and charming story full of humor and love, but also includes the most adorable illustrations form artist Alessandra Sorrentino. It's a great book about not judging others by the appearance, and my nine year old daughter and I both have really en...more

We follow 7-year-old Olivia, who has just moved to a new house. In it, she discovers, lives a cookie-stealing lonely monster named Burrufu. Soon they discover each other and embark on a rather strange and bumpy journey and a tale about finding friendship in the most unexpected places.

First of all, I want to say that Sorrentino's illustrations are amazing, and accompany Corral's writing perfectly. Together they have created this book, which might be the equivalence of King Kong for children. Abo...more

My Monster Burrufu is perfect for those kids who are reading chapter books. I love the message of “don’t judge a book by its cover” that is taught throughout this book. My Monster Burrufu is full of charm, humor and does a wonderful job reminding us not to judge people before getting to know them. This book was such a cute book. My 10 ear old daughter wanted to read the book on her own and tell me all about the book. She really enjoyed the book and it really hit home to here. She is a child that has special needs and a lot of times people judge her and wont get to know her. she said she felt better after reading this book. Shelves: childrens, fiction
I read this with my kids and they loved it. We read it over several nights and the kids were begging to keep reading each night.

The story is good, the characters are interesting and it's a generally good read. There are good morals to be had about frendship etc. Personally I felt the ending wrapped up bit quickly though, thus the 4 stars rather than 5. We had 8 somewhat long chapters of build up and then a kind of short ending 2 chapters that didn't leave me feeling totally fulfilled.

I got this as a free book onmy kindle. I thought the story was cute and i was honestly concerned for Burrufu, but then at the end, i felt like the book became very philosophical about peoples' differences and was obviously trying hard to teach a lesson. That kinda bugged me. The pictures were fun and iliked the characters but i was sad in the end (view spoiler)[ thst Burrufu justleft and noone learned to love him for what hewas, i.e. the big lesson being no prejudice (hide spoiler)]
