Segunda entrega de la trilogía iniciada con El Pentateuco de Isaac sobre el drama de los judíos en la primera mitad del convulso siglo XX. Igualmente conmovedora que aquella, Lejos de Toledo pierde, sin embargo, el tono de amarga comicidad que tanto nos emocionó del discurso de Isaac. Sigue presente su alegato contra la intolerancia, la mirada única y las injusticias que de forma continuada castigan a pueblos como el judío, el gitano, el armenio o el islámico.

Aunque literariamente deja mucho que desear, la historia me ha cautivado por cuestiones sentimentales, creo.

Una buena opción para quien le interese acercarse a Bulgaria; país que, por lo que se desprende de la novela, comparte ciertas similitudes con España por los siguientes motivos.

En primer lugar, por haber sido en otras épocas lugar de convivencia pacífica y tolerante de diferentes culturas (lo que me recuerda a la Granada musulmana, escenario perfectamente reflejado en la novela de Radwa

Leí este libro después de "El pentateuco de Isaac" esperando que fuera parecido, pero es bastante diferente: aguardaba el mismo derroche de sensibilidad y nostalgia. Sin embargo, en "Lejos de Toledo" la narración se vuelve más contemporánea y actual. Sin duda me quedo con el primero, y Angel Wagenstein es un autor imprescindible.

Esperaba más, quizá por lo muchísimo que me gustaron "El pentateuco de Isaac" y "Adiós Shanghai".

Muchos recuerdos, en los que se aprecia la emotividad del autor al hablar de su ciudad natal y de sus recuerdos.

Angel Raymond Wagenstein (Bulgarian: Анжел Раймонд Вагенщайн) is a Bulgarian film director and author. Wagenstein was born in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, but spent his childhood in France where his Sephardic Jewish family emigrated for political reasons due to their leftist politics.
