First time I read a Kristin Hannah book and was thoroughly impressed by her writing. I couldn't seem to put the book down because I was always wanting to know what was going to happen next. I was a little disappointed in how she wrote about the characters though in the sense I felt like we got to know who Joe was at the end of the book instead of at the beginning of the book. Meghann was a strong character playing a lawyer and a loving sister. I didn't have faith in Claire and Bobby's relationsh ...more
I had not read a Kristin Hannah in a while, and thank Marcia for choosing it as my Partner Read. I felt like I was visiting an old friend. She tells a story that is real and this one did not disappoint. Is it contemporary "chick lit"? Yes. But every once in a while this is exactly what I need. (like spending a rainy day curled up in your pi's)

Between Sisters hit all my, friendship, love, redemption and forgiving. I believe that we can retrieve relationships we have lost....not
Reading this book was like eating at McDonalds. It’s fast and easy but I feel so unpleasant afterwards.
Absolutely unrealistic. But I cried. That's good.

Kristen Hannah is a master at evoking every emotion possible in a single book. She and Nicolas Sparks must trade notes on how to rip out their readers hearts all while weaving such an amazing story that you just can't put the book down!

I just finished Between Sisters and let me tell you: I laughed and cried, screamed and groaned through the entire book. I've read several of her other books and I have loved all of them. This book I especially enjoyed because it ended differently than some of her
Kristin Hannah never fails to write books that grab me and pull me into the storyline, as if I am participating.

This is a story of family disconnect, of sisters who lose touch, due to circumstances that are beyond the control of children so young. It is about the ability of families to overcome obstacles, even those involving years of separation, and become what they once were, only better.

The characters portrayed are easy to like and associate with. The joy, the pain, the heartache, of life it
Differences between siblings couldn't be more extreme than they are in this overwrought feel-good novel by Hannah (Distant Shores), a tale about two estranged sisters. Meghann Dontess is a hotshot, well-to-do Seattle divorce lawyer in her 30s, entirely focused on her career. Her younger sister, Claire Cavenaugh, a single mom living in a backwater town in the Pacific Northwest, takes care of her five-year-old daughter and helps her father run his low-key lakeside resort. The half-sisters were rai ...more
Four stars seems like such a standard rating for me. I think my standard may have to become three stars...maybe it's that a I took a big break from reading so anything I pick up right now that holds my attention is "super-fun" to me!

Anyway - between sisters was another great Kristin Hannah book. I'm in - I will now be reading all of her books! I've yet to dislike one. Though I find them all a little heavy in that I'm waiting for the tears to flow once I reach the 3/4 mark of the book, I love he
Fast read. Really enjoyed the 1st half of the book. After a while though the story line reminded me of the movie 'Beaches'. I liked that movie. The plot just got too unbelievable in the book though. When Claire had a brain tumor and her estranged, top lawyer sister ended up falling in love with a homeless looking man named Joe who turned out to be a top Seattle surgeon, who then realized that her brain tumor could be operated on, it was a bit corny. The surgery is successful and Claire lives and ...more
darn you, Kristin Hannah! I can't take books like this where I'm sobbing through the second half but still unable to put it down! I already went through that with your other book, Firefly Lane, lol. I did enjoy the book, but felt like it was very over the top fairytale. Who of us doesn't wish for everything to work out perfectly, incurable illnesses to be miraculously healed, true love winning out despite all odds. Sometimes its nice to read a book like that where everything works out just as we ...more
Between Sisters by Kristin Hannah, is another heartwarming story told by this truly phenomenal author! I have read most of Hannah's books, and I really enjoy her storytelling ability. Hannah truly draws readers in and never lets them go until the novel is over – IT’S GREAT! I loved this book and highly recommend it! You will not be disappointed! 5 stars for sure!

Author Hannah starts us on the journey of an intriguing dilemma in which two sisters venture out in completely different directions in
It's 2 am and I couldn't go to sleep until I finished. I see a long list of Kristin Hannah books in my future reading. These are not my usual mysteries but are excellent people stories. The characters make you feel for them and care what will happen...which is why I ended up reading until 2 am.

The story started off a little slow. It follows two sisters who were close early in their life while they dealt with a uninvolved mother who abandoned them for a week while she struggled to maintain a moviestar career. Meghann the oldest by several years raised her baby sister, Claire, and ultimately found Claire's father and contacted him after it was clear their mother wasn't returning. Claire's father was unaware he had a child and took them in. Meghann split after realizing Claire was better ...more
This is an enjoyable beach read. Very fast read. I couldn't decide between 2 and 3 stars but settled on 2 because there are too many things that I feel critical about. The writing is formulaic and dry at places. There are moments where I really didn't care what I was reading. For example, Hannah would write how a character went up stairs, put on pajamas, brushed their teeth and got into bed. These are normal life trivialities and they annoyed me. The other major criticism I had was, especially i ...more
As one of Kristin Hannah’s first time readers this book blew me away. Between Sisters is a great book for a person who enjoys reading about romance, and likes a little suspense from time to time. While reading this book I could never put it down, I would always want to know what happened next. It was like watching a soap opera where at the end of the episode you would be dying to know what happens next. The way Kristin Hannah wrote the book with drama, love, and sorrow makes it different than ev ...more
I don’t like reading books with lawyer characters. I just don’t like lawyers. ;-) I also greatly dislike psychobabble. I’m also not a huge fan of contemporary romance. Wow. That’s a lot of "don’t likes" for this book to overcome. But, this one had a bit more meat to it than the standard contemporary romance.

The story revolves around two sisters who were abandoned by their self-absorbed actress mother. The younger sister goes to live with her father in a secure and happy environment. The older s

I love Kristan Hannah and her books always make me cry. This one was really good, very well done, and I enjoyed it, but I didn't end up as a sobbing mess, which is the only reason for 4 instead of 5 stars :-)

Between sisters by Kristin Hannah is about a girl named Meghann who was not only a sister but a mother to Claire, until Sam came in. “She still remembered the day he told her, Go, just leave. He’d thought she was a bad influence on his daughter. But what she really hated, the one that stayed with her was just like your damn mother” (Hannah 148). After Meghann couldn’t handle to take care of Claire alone anymore, she went to Sam. Until the day Sam told her to leave, so she did, hurting her sister ...more
I really enjoyed Hannah's book Winter Garden, so I wanted to read some of her other work. While Between Sisters was not a poorly written book, I didn't connect with it at the same level as Winter Garden. I enjoyed the emphasis on relationships, particularly the restoration of relationship between the two sisters Meaghan and Claire, but the story as a whole felt too contrived. It was like an adult fairy-tale, where everything works out in the end. That's certainly a lovely sentiment, but it doesn ...more
I read this because Kelly ACCIDENTALLY rated this 5 stars and she tends to like similar reads to me so I downloaded it to my iPod. She and I both agree it's a beach read type of book. If you want a somewhat predictable book for an airplane ride, this book works. I'll even give it 3 stars because I did want to finish it. I loathed the few 'sexy' scenes and skipped over them. I'm not a prude, I just don't want to read about it--especially if it's poorly done.
This was a good book to read on a cold wintry day, curled up with a cup of hot chocolate and relaxing. The story had a lot going for it: relationships; sisterly love that was broken, then fixed; one sister who was afraid to love after being hurt in her marriage and so became a workaholic; the other sister not afraid to love - loved her daughter, her father, and soon fell in love with a 'country singing cowboy'. It was fun reading about the Bluesters, the group of women who shared everything and ...more
I enjoyed the book, would have enjoyed it more if pages 91 - 106 hadn't been missing!!! (Couldn't return it for a replacement copy) The author has chronicled the bond of 2 sisters, which time and events had pulled in different directions. The progress of their relationship was poignant, entertaining and thoroughly believable. Great job Kristen Hannah regardless that I missed so many pages of dialogue. "Between Sisters" by Kristin Hannah

I'm fairly certain that this is the first book I've read by this author. What a satisfying read - I read it in one go, because I wanted to find out how this all ended. The story has it all: pathos, sadness, humour, grief, love, and redemption. At first I didn't like how closed off the big sister behaved, but by the time I got half-way in I was rooting for her... and for everyone else, as they took risks, stretched to meet challenges, and learned how to be famil
I'm conflicted; I ultimately liked the whole story when I got to the end of it. But the getting there was a lot of work, since the main character (Meghann) is such an unlikeable person--bitchy, smug, and controlling--and remains so through almost half of the book. She is balanced out by a sister (Claire) who is the antithesis of everything Meghann is and does. The plot is melodramatic, and the characters, other than Meghann and Claire, seem to be thrown into the soup of the story without really ...more
Author Kristin Hannah certainly understands human emotions. She portrays them honestly and even the characters you hate pull you into their lives. As the characters develop and the story unfolds there are bits of wisdom tucked into the story for the reader.
"She loves who I am not who I could be if" - ah ha the expectations we put on others.
"You remember the pain of ....., but not the love" - how often do we let negative experiences rule and guide our future.
"You can't hold onto old fears if you
Screw you, Between Sisters, using a 36 point font...

Aside from that, this book was a fast read (not a surprise, as I could see all of the words on a page from across the room). Again, very Lifetime movie-ish from Kristin Hannah, but like I've said before, I'm not above Lifetime movies. Point me to a mini-marathon starring Meredith Baxter and I'm there.

I have now read three of Kritian Hannah's books. The first two were hard slogs. This one is pretty darn good even if the ending's a bit Pollyanna-ish.

Meg and Claire are half sisters, who are abandoned by their mother and find Claire's Dad so Social Services won't split them up. Meg takes care of Claire until she begins to realize she also needs to leave. In what Claire still sees as being abandoned, she gets a full ride scholarship and excells at being a lawyer.

Claire still lives with Dad and he

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this novel about two sisters who come together over the years. Between Sisters is about two sisters that have a lot of history and poor communication over the last two decades. This novel shows how relationships between sisters can be mended despite their history because they have never stopped loving each other. Although this novel focuses on their sister relationship, it also deals with each sister finding their own love. I would highly recommend this novel; howeve ...more
I just want to point out that I don't base my ratings on how well the book was written or how driven the plot was. For me it all comes down to how much I enjoyed reading it and whether or not it made me feel anything.

This started off so achingly slow. I kept checking to see how many pages I had left, kept wanting to abandon it, kept forcing myself to continue.

Both sisters got on my nerves. (view spoiler) and (view spo
